M49/57 Semi Auto Build - Bolt Final
So this is a getting a little more complex than I would have wanted...but it is what it is.
I built a striker with the catch extended out the back of the bolt, which i thought was great but i didnt realize at the time that it will interfere with my 1" recoil spring that will ride on the back of the bolt. With the 5/8" OD striker I do not have enough room to slot the side of the bolt to accept a spring like the PPS43's.
So I cut the catch off the striker and welded it right to the back. The final striker is 1/5", 5/8" hot rolled bar stock, drilled for a tight fit of the 0.19" tool steel rod and bored just deep enough where the 5/8" striker will bottom out in the rear bore of the bolt before the tip if the 0.19" rod bottoms out in the hole drilled up to the front firing pin. I also welded a new sear catch 1" forward of the existing and milled the bottom of the receiver to accommodate. This will keep the striker within the bolt, meaning my striker spring will stay engaged on the striker instead of wandering, and the 1" recoil spring will meet up to the back of the bolt as intended. Nice and Nice.
I made a new video on the final bolt design. Sorry its not the greatest, video quality is decreasing as my frustration increases but i think the bolt work is done. I also welded the magwell section to the tube to help with fitment. I did not record this in case i messed up. The cocking slot lined up perfectly, the jig was nice and tight, but one thing i see as its all welded is the rear sight is tipped slightly to the right... Oh well. Maybe ill cut it and reweld, maybe not. The more messing around you do the more things warp.
Ill make a welding video on the rear tube cut next.
