Season 2 Episode 18: Finding Your Voice as a Parent
On this episode, do you find yourself often saying or doing things with your kids that just don't feel good, but that you do because it feels like something you "should" do? That’s what Alysia is going to talk about this week and why finding your own voice as a parent is one of the best gifts you can give yourself, and your child.
Finding your voice as a parent is simply about about listening to what feels good to you when you think and speak to yourself, and your children.
I began to allow myself to soften, listen to my Soul’s voice, and tune my own voice as a mother regardless of what others thought.
Everyone has an opinion about how you should be or what you should do in every situation that arises on your journey as a parent. Which is why tuning to your own voice is the most powerful thing you can do for yourself as a parent.
Every parent-child relationship is unique and personal.
You can’t do this wrong. Our children chose us for a reason and however we’re showing up through their life is part of our Soul agreement with them. We are not broken and we will not break them. Loving yourself through your cycles is the best gift you can give yourself and your child.

Season 2 Episode 17: Why They Eliminated Phonics
On this episode, why have phonics been systematically eliminated from the school systems? That’s what we’re going to reveal on this week's episode. The why and also the grassroots movement by parents and rebel teachers like Kristy to educate our kids in a way that actually works.
Phonics is the most basic and fundamental piece in the learning to read process. By taking it away, they have effectively taken away the most basic tool kids need to read well.
This is why we started Barefoot Learning Club. This is the core reason why children are struggling to read. Taking phonics away is taking away the most basic tool that kids need to learn to read well.
The kids can't do it, and they get blamed for all the different reasons. However, they are not being given the proper tools they need. This is NOT their fault.
Why did they eliminate phonics? And I mean, REAL phonics. Not sight words and whole language. Listen to find out.
At BLC, we are dedicated to re-establishing real phonics in our literacy programs to set our children up for confidence and success.

Intuition: A Powerful Tool for Parents
Intuition is never logical. It comes from within and often doesn't make any sense. It's the softer voice whispering beneath the other thoughts that are loud in your mind.
Yet, it's from this inner voice, or intuition, that you are truly led to be the parent you came here to be. Tune to the voice within and tap into your empowerment as a parent.

Water Safety Tip #3 Water Wings
Water wings are the floaties you put on your kids arms so they can float in the water. These are to be used as a toy, and not as a safety device.

Season 2 Episode 13: Why Aren't Our Kids Learning to Read?
On this episode, are you concerned that your child is struggling with reading? Or that they've lost the desire to read? Especially with the events of the past few years. That’s what Kristy is going to talk about this week.
When a child says, "I don't like reading", they really mean, "I don't know how to do it."
The Why: The schools shutdown, no one was prepared, the kids got a free pass for several months. Teachers were teaching to black screens.
Reading is a finite thing. It's a skill. It's not a mystery. Yet, cirriculums that are now forced into the schools are not teaching reading. They have their own agenda and it does not include really teaching our children to read.
Kids need to start with phonics. This isn't taught in the schools anymore. Sight words have taken place of the reading cirriculum where phonics should be. When the tools are taken away from our children, how can we expect them to read? This isn't their fault.
Kids want to learn and grow. They only need the proper tools to succeed.
To be clear, this is not the teacher's fault either. They have to do what they're told to keep their jobs. It's up to us as parents and teachers who are ready to stand up, to create this change for our children.

I Don't Give My Kids Time Limits on Devices
Yes, you heard correct. I don't give my kids time limits on devices. This is because it didn't feel like the aligned path for me.
Setting limits created fighting and restriction. This is not how I want to show up as a mother. It wasn't always an easy journey because I allowed others to make me feel guilty.
But since easing up in this area, my kids manage thier own time limits and it's a beautiful thing to see.

Devices Are Only as "Bad" as You Make Them
I feel that technology and devices are talked down upon unneccesarily when it comes to our children.
Our children come into this live ready for the world they're entering into and this is a world filled with technology. It makes sense they will want to explore it and have fun with it.
This isn't a bad thing. This is our children expanding themselves and the world.
