We are finally admitting that we have WAY too many Model A project cars, and need to thin the herd. This 1930 5 window Ford Model A coupe is being assembled so we can take it to the Turlock Swap Meet and sell it. Those Kelsey Hayes wire wheels are this poor car's best feature. Some restoration has already been done on the chassis, but we really don't remember!!!! Too many project cars... I like that this coupe has a trunk instead of a rumble seat. But we are never going to get around to restoring this one. So, we will let someone else enjoy it. Answers to most common questions: No, I am not going to restore it. No, it isn't for sale. Yes, it has a lot of sealer wax on it (to help preserve the paint). The color is Andalusite Blue, factory paint. Yes, it has a round tube radiator. It gets about 22 MPG. Fastest I ever drove it? 55 MPH. Usually drive about 45 - 50 MPH tops. Yes, it still has plate glass in it (windshield is factory safety glass). Yes, there are blankets over the seats to protect the original cloth. I don't know what it's worth, it's kinda rude to ask. It's a Shinn tradition to decorate a Ford Model A with Christmas lights, then drive around and look at Christmas lights! Hey, we're simple people. I've come up with some neat ways to attach lights to the Model As without damaging them. I'll show you how. Then, we freeze our noses off looking at lights. Tina rides in the rumble seat in below freezing temperatures. Will she survive? "A" NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, by Leah Barnacle. T’was the night before Christmas and out in the garage, there wasn’t a trace of a Chevy or Dodge. The presents were wrapped and the lights were all lit, so I figured I'd mess with the A for a bit. I popped the hooks and lifted the hood, when a deep voice behind me said "Looks pretty good." Well, as you can imagine, I turned mighty quick, and there, by the workbench, stood good ol Saint Nick! We stood there a bit, not to sure what to say, then he said "Don't suppose that you'd trade for my sleigh? I said "No way, Santa" and started to grin, "But if you have the time we can go for a spin!" His round little mouth, all tied up like a bow, Turned into a smile and he said "Hey! Let's go!!" So as not to disturb all the neighbors' retreat, we pushed the A quietly into the street, Then, taking our places to drift down the hill, I turned on the key and let the clutch spill. The sound that erupted took Santa by surprise, but he liked it a lot, from the look in his eyes. With the tires singing and headlights aglow, We headed out to where old cars go. Santa's grin widened, approaching his ears, With every shift up as I went through the gears. Then he yelled "Can't recall when I've felt so alive!" So I backed off the gas and said "You wanna drive?" Ol Santa was stunned when I gave him the keys, When he walked past the headlights he shook at the knees! The 4 banger exploded with that Model A sound, as Santa let out the clutch and the tires bit the ground! He double clutched into second, and again into third! I sat there just watching, at loss for a word, Then I heard him exclaim as we cruised out of sight, "Merry Christmas to all...........and to all a Model A good night!!!" Ford Model A automobiles were made between 1927 and 1931, and not one of them left the factory with turn signals! However, for safety reasons, Model A owners add turn signals to the cars today. The aftermarket turn signal controllers are ugly as heck. Signal Stat made a unit that looks very period correct. My friend and fellow YouTuber Joe DIY restored an old Signal Stat turn signal actuator unit and sent it to me. Today, it gets installed in a 1931 Ford Model A Sport Coupe. Spent the day at The Gilmore museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan for Model A Day! At one point, the bus driver went on break and there were no passengers, so MAFCA President Jay McCord and I decided to take the MAFFI bus for a spin. When we got back, there was a line of people waiting to ride the bus who got on and the bus driver was still missing, so..... I jumped in and stole a loaded bus! I ended up driving 5 or 6 tour groups before the bus driver took it back over. When they were doing the main program under the tent, I was out doing a tour and everyone was wondering where I was! Ha ha! OOPS! Moral of the story- Don't leave the keys in your Model A if I'm around, I can't be trusted apparently.
