Olive oil price skyrockets as Spain suffers summer droughts for second year
Spain is the world's biggest olive oil producer, covering 70% of European Union consumption and 45% of that of the entire world.
But a lack of rain that olive-producing areas around Spain have been seeing has had an enormous impact on both the amount of oil being produced - and its price.
In Spain, olive oil prices have increased by more than 70% this year alone after a sharp rise in 2022, with one-litre bottle of extra virgin oil currently costing around €9 ($9.88; £7.79).
The rise in the price of olive oil in Spain has been echoed across Europe - however in some countries, the increase has not been quite as sharp.
A recent trend, for example, has seen Spaniards who live near Portugal crossing the border to buy slightly cheaper oil there.

Clickbait”: Trudeau scoffs as Poilievre promotes his own “much-acclaimed” housing documentary
As the debate on the housing crisis in Canada continued during question period in the House of Commons on Tuesday, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre promoted a newly-released documentary available across his social media accounts.
“Nearly four million people on X alone have watched my much-acclaimed and ground-breaking documentary – 'Housing hell: How we got here and how we get out' – will the prime minister become the four millionth Canadian to watch this documentary, so he can see a common sense plan to reverse the housing hell that he’s caused?” Poilievre asked.
However, Trudeau scoffed at this question stating, “While the Conservative leader focuses on clickbaits and views, we’re focused on building homes for Canadians.”
“It’s funny, he (Trudeau) released a video the very same day of him in a starter home pretending he was a real estate agent, but in reality, everyone laughed because they know he’s doubled the housing costs,” the Conservative leader retorted.
“When I came into question period today, I didn’t think I’d be hearing an infomercial on the leader of the opposition’s YouTube page,” Trudeau mockingly said.

Eight years on, only 15% of the project has been built and, according to recent estimates, just over 1% of the total development is occupied.
Despite facing debts of nearly $200bn, Country Garden told the BBC it is "optimistic" the full plan will be completed.

Perfect solar system' found in search for alien life
It has been discovered that "the perfect solar system" was formed without the violent collisions that created our own mixture of planets with varying sizes.
Six planets in this system, which is located 100 light years away, are almost the same size and are believed to have formed up to 12 billion years ago.
Our solar system was violently formed, with planets colliding, upsetting orbits, and leaving us with relatively small worlds like our own amid giants like Jupiter and Saturn.
Things are extremely different in the solar system known as HD110067, and its pristine conditions make it the perfect place to study how these worlds developed and whether or not they support life.
