'Space Acorn' UFO Crash in Kecksburg, Pennsylvania!
The Kecksburg UFO incident, occurred on December 9, 1965, when a fireball was reported streaking across six U.S. States and Canada. 1000's were witness to the event. In Kecksburg, Pennsylvania, residents reported a crash in the nearby woods. The U.S. military quickly arrived in the area, sealed it off, and were seen removing a large, bronze-colored, acorn-shaped object, bearing strange markings of hieroglyphics and putting it in a truck. Astronomers said it was probably a meteor that burned up in the atmosphere. NASA stated in 2005 that experts had examined fragments taken from the area and determined they were from a Soviet satellite, but that records of their findings were lost in the 1990s. Over the years, stories also circulated about Men in Black turning up at the homes of Kecksburg residents and warning them to keep quiet about what they saw. This is Pennsylvania's own Roswell type UFO mystery.

Tornado destroys huge train trestle - Kinzua Bridge State Park, Pennsylvania
The bridge stood for 121 years and was once known as the longest & tallest railroad structure at 2,053 feet long and 301 feet high. It was partially destroyed by a tornado in 2003. The Viaduct has been re-established as the Kinzua Sky Walk allowing visitors to walk 624 feet on a high railroad trestle.
The “Tracks Across the Sky” also sports a partial glass-bottomed observation deck which gives the public a look down at the remaining towers supporting the historic structure. Just down the road from the Skywalk is the Kinzua Dam. In 1961, citing the immediate need for flood control, President John F. Kennedy denied a request by the Seneca Nation to halt construction of the Kinzua Dam. Upon it's completion, an area of 10,000 acres of the Allegany Reservation, almost one third of its territory, which had been granted to the Seneca nation in the Treaty of Canandaigua, signed by President George Washington was flooded. That resulted in more than 600 families being displaced and forced to relocate. Come along this week to see these amazing structures up close and personal!

The National Quiet Zone and The Green Bank Telescope, Green Bank, West Virginia
Way back in a holler in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia is the Green Bank Radio Telescope, the largest moveable radio telescope on the planet. A strict set of rules exist for the area around it and these rules are enforced. This area is called The National Radio Quiet Zone (NRQZ). It is a 100 square mile rectangle of land spanning both the Virginias designated as a radio quiet zone, in which radio transmissions are heavily restricted by law to promote scientific research and the gathering of military intelligence. There is also a program called The Breakthrough Listen Project which is a search for extraterrestrial intelligence using the Green Bank telescope.
We rode late into the night through the Radio Quiet Zone. Within that 100 square mile zone, there are strict regs on using Wi-Fi, microwaves, and other types of devices using of radio waves. Once we reached the Monongahela National Forest near Buffalo Lake, we set up shop and readied ourselves for the next day's journey to the Green Bank Observatory in Green Bank, WV.

Smallest Church in US 48 AND Smallest Mailing Office - US Post Office, Silver Lake, West Virginia
A two for one stop!
1. Our Lady of the Pines "Smallest Church in 48 States." A sign states this peculiar claim (Alaska and Hawaii became the 49th and 50th states in 1959). It was constructed in 1958. It measures just 12-by-24 feet and contains only 6 pews capable of holding 12 parishioners total. Just a few steps in back of the church is another "small" claim:
2. The "World's Smallest Mailing Office," a post office serving the community of Silver Lake. Our Lady of the Pines also has what they claim to be the Smallest Mailing Office. This is called a mailing office rather than a post office as it does not provide services that a post office provides.

After filling up on their great comfort food and delicious deserts, we ventured upstairs as we had heard this place has quite a haunted history.
