Russian military personnel deserting en masse in Kherson region
Russian military personnel are arriving in the temporarily occupied districts of the Kherson region, where they are reportedly deserting in large numbers, according to the partisan movement ATESH.
It is noted that Russian occupiers are refusing to carry out combat missions and are deserting their temporary deployment areas. Interestingly, some of those who officially went on leave as deserters were later found in the occupied territory of the Kherson region.
Meanwhile, movement agents also report the arrival of a large number of personnel from the occupation army in Novooleksiivka.
"These military personnel are accommodated in vacant abandoned houses. Most of them have multiple tattoos on their bodies. The local population believes that these are people who were previously in places of detention," the message reads.
Desertion and refusal to participate in the war is increasingly a problem for the Russian military. Desertion is as hard as it ever was and it all depends on where the soldier is. To leave the front he must either be granted furlough or be sent to a hospital, from where he’ll leave for another country, legally or illegally. Running from the front line is very dangerous. People are fully aware that there are criminal consequences but that doesn’t stop them. Some pretend they are one of the dead or injured; some shoot themselves in the foot to get out to a hospital and then escape from there.
Agents of ATESH also report that units of the Russian National Guard have been instructed to capture Ukrainian partisans who provide information about the whereabouts of Russian occupation troops. Additionally, there are reports of the disappearance of Russian military personnel in the settlement.
Partisans have discovered a radar station of the Russian occupiers in the temporarily occupied Crimea. It is installed in the area of the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant.
Russian military personnel are also moving self-propelled artillery units towards Dzhankoy in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
In addition, partisans have observed the movement of a large number of Russians to the temporarily occupied Dzhankoy in Crimea.

The West's failure to send weapons to Ukraine puts Putin on the path to victory - Politico
#warinukraine
If the situation at the front does not change soon, then Ukraine in its current form may remain a thing of the past, writes Politico. İt is noted that this not just that Ukraine’s forces are running out of ammunition. Western delays over sending aid mean the country is dangerously short of something even harder to supply than shells: the fighting spirit required to win.
The Ukrainian military privately acknowledges that more casualties are inevitable this summer. The only question is how serious they will be. After all, Vladimir Putin has perhaps never been so close to his goal, the publication notes.
As Politico points out, for a war of this magnitude, the scale of Western leaders' efforts to help Kyiv falls far short of their rapid-fire rhetoric. And it looks increasingly like Putin's bet that he can crush Ukrainian resistance and Western support may be paying off.
" Increasingly it looks as if Putin’s bet that he can grind down Ukrainian resistance and Western support might pay off.
Without a major step-change in the supply of advanced Western weapons and cash, Ukraine won’t be able to liberate the territories Putin’s forces now hold. That will leave Putin free to gnaw on the wounded country in the months or years ahead. Even if Russia can’t finish Ukraine off, a partial victory will leave Kyiv’s hopes of joining the EU and NATO stuck in limbo.
The ramifications of such an outcome will be serious for the world. Putin will claim victory at home, and, emboldened by exposing Western weaknesses, he may reinvigorate his wider imperial ambitions abroad. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are especially fearful they are next on his hit list. China, already an increasingly reliable partner for Moscow, will see few reasons to alter its stance", Politico says.
Several senior officers who spoke to Politico on condition of anonymity painted a grim forecast that the front line could collapse this summer as Russia launches its expected offensive. Perhaps worse, they expressed fears that Ukraine's own resolve could be weakened as morale in the military was undermined by desperate shortages of supplies.

Czechia sends first 180,000 shells for Ukraine
Czechia has signed contracts to supply 180,000 artillery rounds for Ukraine within the framework of its initiative and is currently working on acquiring 300,000 more. Petr Fiala, Prime Minister of Czechia, said this in his column for Financial Times ahead of his visit to Washington.
"The situation in Ukraine is critical. As the war enters its third year, the country’s armed forces are under unprecedented pressure. They are running out of ammunition, meaning they are forced to make difficult decisions every day. This makes it extremely hard to hold their lines — the very lines that will decide the security and future of the whole of Europe", he added.
Fiala stated that the reason for the success of the Czech initiative of seeking ammunition for Ukraine is "deceptively simple".
"We are working to secure a further 300,000 rounds and have already contracted the first 180,000. These will be delivered to the Ukrainian front in the coming months," Fiala reported.
The Czech Prime Minister indicated that about 20 countries, including Denmark and the Netherlands, had joined the initiative.
Fiala added that the Czech initiative also gives the West time to accommodate to the new situation in which war is changing our world: "This means we can no longer avoid fundamental changes at home, such as strengthening societal resilience and rebuilding sufficient defence capacity. We need to get used to the fact that a responsible security policy must include much greater investment in defence to deter attackers."

Anti-Putin rebellion_ Ukraine outlines scenario and timeline of possible coup in Russia
#warinukraine
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Lytvynenko commented on the likelihood of a coup in Russia.
Lytvynenko insists he is not being unrealistic in imagining Russian elites might one day turn on their leader. “There are still quite a few rational people in the leadership. They will think and act when they realise the cost of staying with Putin is greater than moving away from him,” he said in an interview with The Economist.
At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that the priority for Ukraine is to obtain real security guarantees.
As detailed by The Economist, Lytvynenko was a cryptologist cadet in Moscow at the elite KGB academy. And as the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine during two years of war, he was engaged in undermining and obtaining information from his former colleagues. It is noted that not many non-Russians know Russia as well as Oleksandr Lytvynenko. “More recently, as head of Ukraine’s foreign-intelligence service during two years of war, he busied himself undermining and extracting information from his one-time peers. At the end of March, he took over one of the country’s most critical jobs”, the Economist noted.
A year ago, the idea that a renegade militia led by a frothing nationalist could nearly march on Moscow, sending Russian officials scurrying for cover, was fantasy. Not that it hadn’t been done before; the so-called “Kornilov Affair” of 1917, and even the failed hardliner coup of 1991, showed what a move could potentially look like. But under Putin, the idea that Russian nationalists might congeal and storm Moscow long seemed laughable.
And then, last June, militia head Yevgeny Prigozhin did just that. And while Prigozhin’s Wagner Group never quite reached Moscow, that wasn’t for lack of opportunity; if anything, the path was wide open. If Prigozhin accomplished anything, it was that he made Putin look like a tsar with no clothes.

Ukrainian general names the reason why Ukraine does not declare war on Russia
Ukraine will not declare war on Russia because it is not profitable for it. As ex-deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Igor Romanenko explained, Kyiv is afraid of losing Western help.
Answering a question about a possible declaration of war on Russia, the Ukrainian retired general explained that Ukraine would not do this under any circumstances, since it would immediately lose help from the West, which is actively avoiding a direct clash with Russia. And transferring military aid to Ukraine, which has declared war, means taking its side. Therefore, Romanenko urged not to grasp at definitions.
“We have a large-scale war, legally this is enough for us. If we went to a state of war, then assistance for weapons and equipment would cease not only from the United States, but also from most of the allies. They have this written in the law”- said the general, adding that even in the current situation there are “closed points” in assistance from the United States.
Today, Ukraine receives virtually no military assistance from the Americans, who have switched to Israel. The “right” to support the Kyiv has been transferred to Europe, but it cannot do it alone. And the internal problems of the European Union do not make it possible to compensate for most of the US assistance. If war is declared, Kyiv will lose even the little assistance it receives.
Recall, US Senate Majority Leader, Democrat Chuck Schumer, said that a "consensus" was reached that Congress should act quickly to send aid to both Israel and Ukraine.
As reported by ABC News, Schumer expressed hope at a press conference in New York that something could be done this week to help both countries.
He noted that the best way to send aid to Israel and Ukraine is for the House of Representatives to pass the Senate-approved National Security Supplemental Act, which includes aid to both countries.
The Senate passed the US$95 billion package in February, but House Speaker Mike Johnson did not bring it to a vote.

Iran announces the start of revenge operation – “They will regret”
Iran's supreme leader has promised to punish Israel for air strikes that targeted an Iranian consulate building in the Syrian capital. The air strikes on Monday evening killed seven Iranian military officers, including two top generals. While Israel is yet to admit carrying out the attack, global players including China and Russia are pointing fingers at Israel. Monday's attack followed a missile attack on Syria last week that killed more than 50 people. Israel has previously accused Iran of using Syria to funnel money and weapons to its anti-Israel proxies. Why is Israel risking an escalation with Iran? How will Iran respond? Palki Sharma tells you.

Territories of Syria, Lebanon are becoming main ground of the Iran-Israel war
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed to punish the “evil regime” of Israel after the attack on the consular building in which Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a high-ranking commander of the Quds Force, the elite foreign operational wing of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was assassinated.
In Israel, political leaders as well as military and diplomatic officials said they were ready for any scenario. Asked if it was Israel that carried out the attack, Michael Ronen, head of South and Southeast Asia Division at Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: “They say Israel carried out the strike. Well, I don’t know. What I can say is that Israel is ready for any response from Iran.”
In this condition, after years of engaging in shadowy tit-for-tat operations, Iran and Israel's unofficial battle in Syria has been thrust out into the open by an unprecedented attack in the Syrian capital that killed several top Iranian advisers. Now, even with Israel already mired in the longest and deadliest-ever war with Palestinians, facing ongoing clashes with Hamas and constant fire from Iran-aligned "Axis of Resistance" factions from at least four nations, the Iran-Israel indirect war taking place on the sidelines of the war in Gaza threatens to become the main event.
"It's very important to differentiate between the level of hostility we have witnessed so far and the potential for a full-fledged regional war," Eran Etzion, former head of policy planning at the Israeli Foreign Ministry and deputy head of the Israeli National Security Council, told Newsweek. "It's very, very different."
For Israel, the situation has presented "a strategic dilemma" for Israeli leadership, as observed by Etzion. That is "to what extent do we attempt to directly attack Iran rather than simply attack its various proxies, including the ones in Syria?"
In addition to the hundreds of strikes conducted by Israel against Syria over the course of at least a decade, he pointed out how, "throughout the years, Israel has taken some actions on Iranian soil, for some it has taken responsibility and for some it has not."
Mostafa Najafi, an Iranian researcher specializing in Middle East conflicts and Iran's foreign policy, argued Tehran had already outlined its reaction to what may come next.
"Part of this response is done directly by Iran, which is, of course, limited," Najafi said. "A major part is also more intense by resistance groups in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen. The location of the answer also includes both inside Israel and the assets of this regime outside the occupied territories. The Persian Gulf, the Arab countries, the Oman Sea, and the Mediterranean will be the target areas outside of Israel."

US, Israel preparing for “inevitable” Iranian attack
The US is expecting that Iran will attack American or Israeli personnel in the Middle East in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike in Syria, several news organizations reported, citing US officials. Tehran has previously vowed to avenge seven officers, including two top commanders from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, who were killed in the bombing of Iran’s consulate compound in Damascus.
A senior official told CNN that the US government believes retaliation by Iran is inevitable, and added that the Israelis share this assessment. Officials warned that an attack could come as soon as next week.
According to officials who spoke to NBC News and CBS News, American intelligence suggests that Iran could use “a swarm” of Shahed kamikaze drones and cruise missiles, and that Tehran could target an Israeli diplomatic or consular facility.
The potential attack was discussed during a phone call between President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
There have not been any major attacks on US personnel in the region since late January, when a kamikaze drone killed three soldiers stationed at a remote outpost near the Jordanian-Syrian border. American troops shot down two drones near the al-Tanf base in southern Syria this week.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has promised that Israel will “receive a slap in the face.” Officials in Tehran also made threats against the US, although Washington claimed it was unaware that the strike on Iran’s mission in Damascus would happen.
Israel has accused Iran of aiding Hamas, Hezbollah, and other pro-Palestine militant groups and has vowed to neutralize any security threats during its war against Hamas in Gaza. Although Israel did not claim responsibility for the death of the Iranian generals directly, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned that “everyone who acts against us all over the Middle East” will pay “a heavy price.”

Moment - Footage of hundreds of drones attacking Israel’s territory
The first bulk of kamikaze drones directed by Iran towards Israel has already entered the territory of Israel. The relevant images were distributed on Telegram channels. Hundreds of drones are seen hovering over Israel’s coastal city of Ashkelon. According to the report, about 500 drones from Iran were directed towards Israel. Some of them were struck over Iraq, Jordan and Syria. The drones entered the Israeli territory an hour earlier than planned. Israel's air defense system was activated, and fighter jets took off to target the drones.

Israel comes under intensive missile attack from Lebanon’s territory
Up to 50 missiles have been fired at Israel from Lebanon amid speculations of possible Iranian attack on Israel. Israel’s Iron Dome defence system intercepted around over 40 missiles that were apparently fired from Lebanon. Footage circulated on social media showed the missiles exploding in mid-air as they are caught by Israel’s air defence system. The Israel Defence Forces, IDF, spokesman announced that a number of rockets, shells and drones had been fired from Lebanon where Iran’s proxy group Hezbollah is based. He said: “The launching of about 40 rocket shells from Lebanese territory towards Israel was monitored, some of which were intercepted while the rest fell in open areas without causing any casualties,” the spokesperson said, adding that “IDF forces opened fire to eliminate the threat in several areas of southern Lebanon.” The IDF has also intercepted two Hezbollah bomb drones that infiltrated from Lebanon.

What the hell is happening in Germany_ The brutal attack on pro-Palestinian voices
#Palestine #Germany #europe
As Israel’s genocide in Gaza rages on, Germany is leading efforts to silence criticism of Israel's actions.
The German government and its institutions have cancelled a stream of cultural events that show solidarity with Palestine, smearing prominent artists and intellectuals – many of them Jewish – as anti-semitic. They’ve intimidated activists and searched their homes. They’ve even made cultural grants – and in the case of one German state, citizenship – contingent on support for Israel.
And now, German politicians are trying to ban the Palestine Congress, a vital event planned for the 12-14 April in Berlin, to unite activists for a ceasefire in Gaza.
How successful have these clampdowns been in hindering activism for Palestine? What are the underlying factors propelling the authoritarian stance of German politicians, and how does this relate to the country’s Nazi history? And as we move into the European elections, what might this repression mean for Germany, for other countries in Europe, and for the plight of the Palestinian people?
Our panel, including Yanis Varoufakis, and Karin De Rigo and Lucas Febraro from Berlin, investigate. Join us live and have your say!
