Man is Shot in the Groin by Houston Police
Bodycam Release Date 1/26/2024 Houston, Texas - Charges have been officially filed against Broderick Rax, a 39-year-old suspect who was shot by a Houston police officer on Sunday evening at 8435 Tidwell Road. Rax is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance in the 177th State District Court. Unfortunately, a booking photo of Rax is currently unavailable as he remains hospitalized in stable condition due to the gunshot wound he sustained during the incident.
The officer involved in the shooting, Officer G. Chappell, was sworn in as an officer in July 2019 and is currently assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division. The HPD Special Investigations Unit, led by Sergeant M. Ynosencio and supported by Detectives V. Praxedes, J. Kosler, T. Vaca, and O. Flores, provided additional details regarding the incident.
According to their report, HPD officers were patrolling the area of 8400 Tidwell Road when they noticed a black Lincoln sedan parked near a business that had visible "No Trespassing" signs. The officers observed that the vehicle remained in that location for an extended period of time, prompting them to initiate a trespassing investigation.
The uniformed officers approached the driver's side of the Lincoln and discovered a male, later identified as Broderick Rax, sitting in the front driver's seat. They informed Rax that they were conducting a trespassing investigation and immediately noticed a strong smell of marijuana emanating from his vehicle.
Despite the officers' instructions, Rax refused to comply and exit the vehicle. He continued to resist their orders as they attempted to remove him from the car. During the struggle, the officers noticed a firearm within the male's reach on the driver's side floorboard. In an effort to detain Rax, the officers deployed their conducted energy devices (Tasers), but unfortunately, these had no effect on him.
As the struggle persisted, one of the officers witnessed Rax reaching for the gun. In response to this imminent threat, the officer discharged his duty weapon, striking Rax once. Subsequently, the suspect fled from the vehicle and sought refuge inside the nearby business. However, officers were able to apprehend him and take him into custody.
Following the incident, the officers immediately provided first aid to Rax, ensuring that he received the necessary medical attention. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further details will be released

Phoenix Police Run Over Armed Man After Less than Lethal Effort is Used
Bodycam Release Date 1/26/2024 Phoenix, AZ - On 1/12/2024, a man, identified as David Epaloose, aged 38, has been arrested and booked into jail in connection with a shooting incident involving Phoenix police officers. The charges against him include aggravated assault and resisting arrest. The incident occurred when officers responded to a domestic violence call at an apartment near 1400 East Brill Street. The caller reported that her cousin's boyfriend was attempting to enter the apartment by forcefully kicking the front door while holding a knife. However, before the officers arrived, the man fled the scene and was spotted walking into an alley. The officers, upon reaching the area, identified a man whom they believed to be the suspect. They issued commands to him, but he failed to comply and instead moved away from the officers, eventually running away. The officers pursued him, and during the chase, two of them used less-lethal tools in an attempt to apprehend him. However, when the man reached the area of 15th Street and Brill Street, he produced a handgun and pointed it at the officers. The officers continued to use less-lethal tools as they made their way through the neighborhood. At approximately 8:17 p.m., one of the officers discharged his duty shotgun, striking the man, while simultaneously another officer drove a marked patrol Tahoe at the man, also striking him. The man was eventually detained near 14th and Brill streets and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The officer who drove the patrol Tahoe at the man also sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. It was later determined that the handgun used by the man was actually a pellet gun designed to resemble a semi-automatic handgun. The investigation revealed that the individual who initially attempted to force entry into the apartment was not the same person who fled from the officers and pointed the handgun at them.
