Peter Gabriel | Remembering Biko
Stephen Biko (December 18, 1946 – September 12, 1977)
Stephen Biko was an anti-apartheid activist in South Africa in the 1960s and 1970s. He died from injuries inflicted upon him by his captors at Pretoria prison on September 12, 1977.
A year later English rock musician Peter Gabriel wrote the song ‘Biko’ in remembrance of the deceased and as a protest song against the ‘apartheid’ regime. The song was included on Peter Gabriel’s third solo album ‘Peter Gabriel’ (1980).
On June 11, 1988, Gabriel performed ‘Biko’ live at the ‘Nelson Mandela 70 Birthday Tribute’ concert at Wembley Stadium, London, UK. The concert was broadcasted in more than 67 countries and reached an estimated audience of more than 600 million people. Needless to say, the impact was huge and Gabriel’s rendition of ‘Biko’ together with Simple Minds and Youssou N’dour was pivotal.
It would take 2 more years for Nelson Mandela to be released from prison on February 11, 1990, and many more years before the racist system of ‘apartheid’ was officially abolished, and the struggle for which Stephen Biko and many others had given their lives ended…
And the eyes of the world are still watching…
And therefore we should remember Stephen Biko...

Meli Perea - Lodo 🇨🇴
MELI PEREA presents "LODO", a transformative theme, a song that encourages the construction of our own paths, evoking a creative and strong intention, freeing ourselves from the power we have given to the words of others about our own path. In this new work, Meli has once again collaborated with Ancestral Beats, blending rhythms such as mapalé, Cuban bembé, and turreo.

Dennis Warner - Beads on One String
The song emphasises the importance of our commonalities. Like a beaded necklace, we are all different sizes, shapes and colours, but all held together by one string. It’s the string, the things we share in common, that holds us together.

Paolo Nutini | Iron Sky
“To those who can hear me, I say, do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed. The bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people and so long as men die, liberty will never perish.
Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You, the people, have the power to make this life. Free and beautiful. To make this life a wonderful adventure. Let us use that power - let us all unite!” - Charles Chaplin

Danny Vera | Roller Coaster
LYRICS
Here we go
On this rollercoaster life we know
With those crazy heights and real deep lows
I really don't know why
And I will go
To the farthest place on earth I know
I can travel all the road, you see
Cause I know you there with me
You don’t have to slow me down
Cause I will always be around
I will find my way back home
Where magnolia grows, where magnolia grows
But I guess you know
Why I do what I do and where I go
I try to fill an empty space inside
But I can't do that without you
You're even with me in my dreams
I see a sail, the seven seas
I will try to find my way
You’re always there tomorrow, you're always there tomorrow
Here we go
On this rollercoaster life we know
With those crazy heights and real deep lows
I really don't know why
And I will go
To the farthest place on earth I know
I can travel all the road, you see
Cause I know you there with me
You don't have to slow me down
Cause I will always be around
I will find my way back home
Where magnolia grows, where magnolia grows
Here we go
On this rollercoaster life we know
With those crazy heights and real deep lows
I really don't know why
And I will go
To the farthest place on earth I know
I can travel all the road, you see
Cause I know you there with me
Here we go
On this rollercoaster life we know
I can travel all the road, you see
Cause I know you there with me
Cause I know, oh know
You there with me

Jimi Hendrix | Are You Experienced?
Brother Jimi,
The Musical firestorm, that raged thru the land of Sound and Soul, changing it forever.
The tidal wave that washed ashore on the beaches of Melody and Harmony, shaping it forever.
The howling hurricane of force and fury that hit the ground running, all but to vanish into thin air.
The root of the tree of music that stands firmly in the garden of Genius and Grace.

Prince | The Love We Make 💜
"The Love We Make"
Desperate is the day that is 2morrow
4 those who do not know the time has come
2 whip the dogs that beg, steal or borrow
From the table God set 4 His Son
Wicked is the witch that stands 4 nothing
All the while watching 2 see U fall
Deeper than the ditch that bred your suffering
The one being dug right now by them all
Happy is the way 2 meet your burdens
No matter how heavy or dark the day
Pity on those with no hope 4 2morrow
It's never as bad as it seems until we say
Precious is the baby with a mother
That tells him that his Saviour is coming soon
All that believe will cleanse and purify themselves
Put down the needle, put down the spoon [x2]
Sacred is the prayer that asks 4 nothing, oh
While seeking 2 give thanks 4 every breath we take, oh
Blessed are we inside this prayer
4 in the new world, we will be there
The only love there is, is the love we make [x2]
(The only love there is, is the love we make)
Only love there is, only love there is
The only love there is, is the love we make (Yeah)
The only love there is, is the love we make

Jimi Hendrix | Like A Rolling Stone
Once upon a time you dressed so fine,
Threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?
People'd call, say, "Beware doll, you're bound to fall,"
You thought they all were a’kiddin' you.
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was uh hangin' out.
Look atcha
But now you don't talk so loud,
Now you don't, baby, seem so proud,
About having to be scrounging your next meal...
Yeah
How does it feel?
Oh, how does it feel, baby?
To be on your own?
No direction home
Look atcha...
A complete unknown
Like a rolling stone...

"Small Club, 2nd Show That Night" is probably the most famous Prince bootleg as it captures one of the many after-shows Prince performed throughout the years.
Many of these gigs have been recorded but none in such pristine sound quality. The listener gets to experience the performance as much as the audience did at that moment in time.
It's a piece of music history...

Perkostylz | Africa
Perkostylz' "Africa" is a prayer to the most high Jah about the way we live our lives. As if there are different 'Almighties' for Africans and Europeans, yet, He is the only one. We are praying to the same God yet we Africans seem to be the forgotten ones.
There are endless wars, hunger and famine in Africa; Black people are being sold in Libya; There is war in Somalia and DR Congo. South Africa suffers from xenophobia against fellow black brothers and sisters. Therefore we pray. A strong musical statement by Perkostylz

M.I | Ashes (Tribute to the Aluu 4)
The Aluu 4 was a necklace lynching that involved four young men, Ugonna Obuzor, Toku Lloyd, Chiadika Biringa, and Tekena Elkanah, all students of the University of Port Harcourt. They were all lynched after they were falsely accused of theft in Aluu, a community in Ikwerre local government area, Rivers State, Nigeria on 5 October 2012. M.I. Abaga wrote Ashes in response to this tragedy.
This song is a piece of artistic accomplishment. Expressive vocals with a backup that offers an ethereal feel. The lyrics are deep, easy-flowing, poetic and thought-provoking. The intro leads well into the song. Sparse and tasteful instrumental arranged dominated by a drum, and interspersed with a violin to simulate groovy tranquility. The artist is as ingenious as the producer, and they both have presented Hip-Hop lovers with a masterpiece.
Lyrics:
We were down a sandy beach,
All night talking to your mouth’s words.
Tell me where you would like to be.
Tonight don’t be afraid to dream.
Lean on the fire for a while.
Cause in the morning it’ll all just be ashes on the ground
Instead it be them, let it be me.
Since I will die inevitably,
Then let it be, that it be said
When I am dead: some other was free, some other was fed
Some other, not me, was able to see
That long as we live inside a country where no one is safe,
No one is safe.
We only evade, try to escape
The imminent doom
But closer the date looms.
It comes for all.
If we must go, then at least,
When we fall…
When we’re all ashes…
If I am slain, let them forever remember the name
Some other should gain.
When we’re all ashes…
Because of my pain. Because of my tears because of my scars
Some other should gain.
When we’re all ashes…
The reason I’m gone. Let it be told, let it be known, and turned into song
When we’re all ashes…
If I die alone. Let it be more than dying alone, the reason I’m gone.
The reason I’m gone.
Instead it be sleep.
Let it be hate, let it degrade.
Let it be deep.
Some other should weep
Some other should keep
The memory of
The way that I died
Maybe a change, some other can try
At least we can lie. At least we can hope
At least we can say
tomorrow is better, it won't be today
Some other can pray
Some other can fight
The wrong done to me some other can right.
Then maybe my death can save some other life
For then, I would gladly give another life
When we’re all ashes…
Let it be worth
Let it be so some other can live. Let it be birth.
When we’re all ashes…
As I am hurt
As I pass, let it be last, let it be first
When we’re all ashes…
Don’t let them forget
The only regret is that we relent. We all should repent..
When we’re all ashes…
If I die alone,
Let it be more than dying alone. The reason I’m gone
The reason I’m gone
Feels like I stood there watching,
the pain the brutal torture
And added my silence to the violent screams
of "Burn and torch 'em".
How do you earn misfortune?
Or does it come unbidden?
If life’s a painted portrait,
Who puts dark colours in them?
If there’s a God in heaven,
Surely he’s weeping now.
As all the blood is shedding
As all His people drown.
God help us all.
Rest in peace Chidi.
Rest in peace Lloyd
Rest in Peace Tekena
Rest in Peace Ugonna
Rest in peace to the Students murdered in Adamawa state.
Rest in peace to those two young girls.

Neville Brothers | One Love (People Get Ready)
"One Love/People Get Ready" is the Reggae anthem by Bob Marley & The Wailers from their 1977 “Exodus” album. The song contains an interpolation of The Impressions' song "People Get Ready" written by Curtis Mayfield. That’s why both Bob Marley and Curtis Mayfield are credited with the song.
Bob Marley did not ‘invent’ Reggae. It happened. Reggae emerged in the late 70’s, on the waves of the Black Liberation Movement of the 60’s, spiritual freedom and expression of ‘self’. Marley became its icon. Reggae has had many influencers, as it has become an influencer in its own right. The spirit of Reggae is ‘One Love’ as it is superbly expressed by the Neville Brothers in this video.
