Dear Pastor Bob: Are certain kinds of prayers a "one-size fits-all" for everyone? I ask because some say that if we pray a certain prayer from a certain teacher, it may be more powerful than other prayers from other teachers or ministers.I am not talking about prayers to receive Salvation. I am talking about prayers that some teachers use to rebuke sin in our lives, such as malice and bitterness towards others.Some of these prayers are very long and drawn out. These people say these kinds of prayers may be the most effective, since they cover all the bases. Some prayers take up to 10 minutes! Do you have any thoughts on this? Dear Pastor Bob: I was wondering if you could speak on marriage help for men. I've been married over 20 years. It seems after we got married and had the children, my wife has essentially checked out of the marriage relationship.She is more of a supervisor to me now instead of a loving partner.All she is concerned about is that I keep working at my job and do my chores around the house.Other than that, she doesn't talk to me and has no interest in me.When I give guidance to the children, or need them to do something, she disagrees with me most times in front of the children. I don't want an argument in front of the children, so I just walk away. I think the children don't respect me because of this.I've tried talking to my wife about this and we've gone to counseling several times, but she just doesn't seem to understand.For the most part, she is a good mother, but I would have been happier if I would have never gotten married.I've been praying for almost 20 years, but it hasn't gotten much better.I was expecting to have a close, loving relationship instead of a long prison sentence.From the marriages I see around me, and men's comments on the internet, I think many men feel the same way.I don't want a divorce, but I've been pretty lonely and miserable for many years.What can I do if I am stuck in an unloving marriage? Dear Pastor Bob: What qualifies as true worshipmusic according to the Bible?It seems that worship music has almost become a genre in itself. SomeChristians say thatin order for somethingto be considered worship music, it must contain little tono entertainment value. In other words, the sound of the music should not resemble popularrock music in any way, or else itfalls under the entertainment category, and not worship music. They say Christian music should sound different than what you hear on the radio or in concert. Personally, I can worship God through any kind of music, not just the kinds ofsongs you sing in Church.For example, many Strypersongs arejust as worshipful as a hymn. But some would say otherwise. Dear Pastor Bob: I am 41 years old, and my wife and I are the parents of a vibrant and active 5 year-old boy. He is a child with special needs (autism) and we pray continually to be the parents we need to be for him. We are active members in a local Gospel-preaching church. This past Sunday, I had some ladies at our church give me some so-called "advice" on how my wife and I should raise our son. Their words were tactless and judgmental. The two were prominent in our church, so I was really taken aback by what they said. I felt sad, discouraged, and frustrated. I responded to what they said gently; with few words. I didn't argue. My words seemed to fall on deaf ears. My wife wanted to confront them in anger when she found out about it. I told her we weren't going to do that. They were ugly, and we weren't going to act that way. I told her we were going to walk away and let God deal with them if they acted like that again. I'm sad because it will leave me with very little choice but to go to our pastor if we can't resolve this. One of these women is our Sunday School teacher. How do I know? Armenian, Calvinist, Evangelical, Pentecostal, Prosperity, Reformed, and on and on. Each of these have esteemed scholars and educators at the ready to Biblically support and show why they have the truth. You must speak in tongues if you are Spirit filled, the gifts ended with the apostles, you must be submerged or you’re really not baptized, babies can be baptized, no, you must be of the age of accountability,you can only take communion at church, women can preach, no they can’t and on and on. Most tell me that burial is required so the body is ready for the rapture and that is the only way we can get to heaven.
