Some folks have asked questions aboutAjax's partnerand father of Apple and have heard about the mysterious Brutis who came on the scene in February for a couple of months and disappearedsoon after. We named him Brutus - becausehe had quite a brutal 'devil' fox look. Sadly later he was to get sarcopticmange and didn't stick around long enough to be able to treat him. Also since he was so nervous and distant from the house it would have been difficult to get the meds into him exclusivelyand it's dangerous for cubs under 5 months old to have them. A lot of foxes are monogamousand mate for life I get the feeling Brutus wasn't like that and was a deadbeat dad in some respectwithprobably a few vixens on thego and came back for food but didn't seem to bring any. In this video you can see Ajax hissing at him as if to say pee off you weren't here for the babies and you bring nothing to the table so pee off. The cubs though as you can see on the scene where the 4, yes 4 mob him as he comes out of the set and is super playful. That said later he does bite one on the back - probably playfully but the cub isn't happy. Anyway, he disappeared never to be seen again but he left 4 cubs, one died the 2 brothersleft at the end of summer and the lone daughter Apple and here we are. Nearly 10 days into the Ivermectin treatment Apple has stopped scratching and biting her tail. The two pink bald patches on her underside and neck are darkening as fur grows back and her tail is becoming proper fox bushy. I'll give her another dose in a few days to make sure the eggs on her skin will be killed as well. All in all a very satisfying result ! "Kit Kat" is a two-year-old wild Red Fox who lives on a property on Long Island, New York. He befriended the owner in May of 2011, at approximately two months of age. Since the spring of 2012, he and his mate have had two litters of kits. In April of 2013, while he and his mate were rearing their young, they began to see signs of mange affecting him. In less than one month he was completely infected from head to toe and in dire need of help. Thus they began to research possible remedies to save him. Apple is a 9-month-old vixen who has had a bad case of sarcoptic mange which has resulted in fur loss and skin irritation. If untreated it would lead to greater fur loss, irritation and eventual death with great suffering. The wonderful folks at South Essex Wildlife Hospital has provided me with 2 doses of 0.5ml 1% Ivermectin. The first dose was applied in a cheesy roll a week ago and I have supplemented it with my own 'privately' acquired medicine at 5 days. The biting bugs should now be dead and in a couple of days, I will provide another dose which will kill the eggs on her skin. She looks visually healthier and is no longer scratching incessantly and her fur is growing back. So the DRUGS DO WORK and thank god for that it is so pleasing to have intervened on her behalf and relieved her suffering. Apple our 9-month-old vixen has had sarcoptic mange for a few weeks now and is causing skin irritation and fur loss and will ultimately cause suffering and death if left untreated. The great guys at South Essex Wildlife Hospital have sent two doses of Ivermectin in honey to be applied in bread.
