COLT Python .357 MAGNUM Gun Lighter Restoration
COLT Python .357 MAGNUM Gun Lighter Restoration
ABOUT THE GUN LIGHTER
Note: THIS IS NOT a firearm it’s a very cheap Chinese cigarette lighter model of the famous Colt Python .357 Magnum who was introduced 1955 the same year that Smith & Wesson released the .44 Magnum revolver. I got the lighter from a metal dumpster station. I was very curious to see if I could make it work again. These cheap butane lighters have a bad reputation for not working very well.
THE RESTORATION PROCESS
I started brushing the dirt and rust off the lighter. After giving it a little squeeze of WD40 I disassemble it and sandblasted the revolver case. It was made of very cheap metal and had a lot of pitting therefore I grinded it with fine sandpaper grit 1000 and 1500 and then I did some serious polishing of the case just to make it look ok. I cleaned all the small parts in my mini tumbler.
The handle was like the rest of the lighter made of very cheap materials. I had to drill a hole in the handle to just get it off. I cleaned the handle of this revolver with warm soap water and I grinded it with fine sandpaper and polished it with car wax. The cylinder on this Colt Python was unfortunately made of cheap plastic, so I just cleaned it with some harsh chemicals to achieve the matt black plastic look.

Butchers HUGE AXE Restoration - TRIPAS 2
Butchers HUGE AXE Restoration - TRIPAS 2
I dissembled the axe handle from the axe head and cleaned it before I did the sandblasting. I rugged the metal up with a cleaning disc after sandblasting to achieve the rough cold steel look. I did leave all the old marks on this Tripas to retain that rough old butchers look.
I decided to give the brand name TRIPAS more attention, so I drew a new logo to the axe head which I processed in Adobe Photoshop and later AI to make a cool vector that I can transfer to CAD in my fiber laser system. It is a complicated process and it takes many hours of drawing, scaling, programming, and tiny adjustments to achieve a perfect laser engraving result.
I fitted an old axe handle that I had in my garage to the project and engraved the name in the handle. Hope that you enjoyed the project.

Mechanical Coin Bank Restoration
Mechanical Coin Bank Restoration
It is in really bad shape. The wood it is mounted on are rotten and full of mold and the pewter base are broken in many pieces. The trigger mechanics inside the figure are also broken so I needed to fix that.
THE RESTORATION PROCESS
I disassembled the coin bank and sandblasted the base and the big old tree. Then I repaired the pewter base. The plate where the hunter stands. I had to glue the pieces together with solder before I could cast the missing pewter. I gave it a nice layer of metal primer and hand painted it two times.
I also disabled the hunter, but I had to use drill and screw extractor to get 5 of the screws out. I replaced these 5 screws with new ones. I gave him a nice sandblasting and a layer of metal primer and hand painted him two times as well. I fixed the trigger mechanism and replaced the old rotten tree plate with a new one in oak. I gave it some oil to give the wood a darker and older look. I also created a little brass plate which I mounted on the oak plate, it says “Awesome Coin Bank”.
The small parts, such as screws and trigger mechanism got cleaned up in a rust remover solution and after that I polished all the screws.
I did not erase his face in the sandblaster – I only did a very soft cleaning with water.
I really enjoyed this restoration. There are something very special in restoring these old antiques.

EXTREMELY Rare Whisky Hip Flask Restoration - World War II
EXTREMELY Rare Whisky Hip Flask Restoration - World War II
About this Whisky hip flask
I have never seen something like this before. It is beyond cool. I have bought it from a family who lives near Bastogne where the actual battle of Bulge took place in 1944. I got this whisky hip flask and a lot of other really cool relics with me home this time including a Medic bag and a Medic helmet (unfortunately the family has already had the helmet restored a few years back). This family has been living in Bastogne for many generations, and I was told that after the battles there was military “garbage” (war relics) left all over the place. You can still go to France, Poland, Germany, Russia, Belgium – yep most of Europe and do some awesome World War 1 and World War 2 founds. There were millions of military items left behind.
The restoration process
I know this is a special one, so I saved it for the US Memorial Day 2021. It was with a mix of respect and fear of not being able to restore this beautiful and rare whisky hip flask that I started this restoration. First, I Cleaned this relic with alcohol and soap and removed the WW2 Combat Medicine badge with blow torch. I was very careful not to melt the pewter and destroy the whisky flask. I soaked the badge in Russian vodka “Rocket fuel”.
I fixed and repaired a big dent in the bottom of the hip flask. For that I used heat and gentle hammer strokes.
I prepared the hip flask for casting by grinding and cleaning the big hole there was in this hip flask and fill it with casting sand. I filled the hole in the flask with pewter and after that I hand grinded it back to as good as it gets. I did a quick polish and attached the World War 2 Combat Medicine badge again and filled the hip flask with the VAT. 69 whisky which some of the soldiers used to drink in 1944.

RARE GUN Lighter Restoration – World War I
RARE GUN Lighter Restoration – World War I
This relic was found in the late 60’s early 70’s and brought to a barn where it has been contained together with a lot of other WW2 metal garbage, uniforms, helmets, and other rusted materials. I was lucky to be able to buy a whole lot of relics from this family and therefore have more videos about this in the future.
The lighter is made of brass and old copper cartridges dated 1939. I am not sure who used this ammunition during WW2, but the cartridges had these numbers stamped in: P315 Iva1 – 7 -39. In my opinion it could be German Mauser ammunition – but I’m not 100% sure. So if you have any info about this, please leave a comment below.
THE RESTORATION PROCESS
I started by doing a quick cleaning of the lighter to get an overview of the restoration. Then I removed the flint wheel and the wick holder and both was in good restorable condition which was fantastic after all these years. I continued by detaching all the parts which was soldered on the lighter frame: the trigger, the trigger guard and finally the copper cartridges.
I cleaned all the small parts in my vibrating tumbler using aluminum oxide as my media. And I cleaned the gun frame and the copper cartridges in my sandblaster using very fine glass beads together with low air pressure. Just to preserve as much as possible.
All the parts were in fantastic condition of course there were a lot of scratches, dents, and tiny cracks on the lighter parts after all these years. After the sandblasting I gave the parts a very gentle hand grinding with some high grit sandpaper. I also polished all the parts but I managed to get a good compromise between looking good and still preserve some of the wear and tear on the lighter.
I soldered it all together and added lighter fluid cotton, a new wick, flint and flint spring to the project. And finished it all by making a new wick lid on my lathe.

Gladiator Helmet Restoration – Roman Warrior replica
Gladiator Helmet Restoration – Roman Warrior replica
A beautiful Gladiator helmet restoration to honor the Roman warrior. This time I restored a very mean-looking old Roman warrior helmet from Rome in Italy.
I bought this helmet a long ago on a vacation in Italy where we saw a show with warriors fighting. It`s a replica of a real Gladiator Helmet from many centuries back in time where there were gladiators in Italy and Greece. Long before I was even thinking about doing restoration videos.
If you know anything about gladiators or warrior helmets please leave a comment with your knowledge – thanks!
The helmet was very rusty. It has been outside in my garden for many years as a decoration. I removed all the rust on the helmet with brushing and washing. I painted the inside of the helmet with primer and black matte.
I produced 4 spikes and mounted them to the helmet to make it look even more rough. I also painted the front side of the helmet with a water-based black color and brushed 70% of it off again to accomplish that ancient gladiator warrior look.
I added 24 Carat leaf gold on the helmet to give it that special Gladiator helmet character they had in Rome back in time.
It was a super cool restoration project and If you enjoyed my video, please like and comment. That will mean a lot to me!
