Episode 161 Manic Mechanic
In our Attempt to Restore function to the Ford 390 FE in our 1963 Galaxie, we go the slow route in restoration to get the engine fully up and running. I’d rather take my time and get it right than blaze through the process of tuning and break the engine. We show how to check all the visible stuff and what we had to change to get it ready to start.

Ford 4R70W vs C4 Driving Impressions
Ford Fairlane Torino 4R70W AOD First Drive
Episode 553 Autorestomod
We finally get the 4R70W driven 1969 Fairlane out and driving. We like the way the US Shift controller handles the Monster Transmission 4R70W and it the combination of the two is light years ahead of where the car was with driving. We’d like to see a little more gearing, but other than that, we are very pleased with the outcome so far.

Projector Headlights Install Classic Cars
LED headlights in a Falcon Mustang Maverick Camaro Cuda F100
Episode 556 Autorestomod
https://www.banginheadlights.com
If your current headlights are 7" in diameter (178 mm), our seven inch round headlight will drop right in as a like-for-like replacement.
Important - These are 7" diameter headlights, normally they fit cars with 2 headlights. If your car has 4 headlights it is likely they have the smaller 5.75" size Bangin' Headlights will be releasing headlights in this size very soon.
The headlights come with a 3-pin H4 plug, the same as your existing 7" sealed beam. This makes them plug & play.
If you get headlights with options such as halos and demon eyes, additional wiring will be required.
Bangin' Headlights are designed to fit your classic car. In these cars the headlight compartment is often tiny and most LED headlights do not fit. In many cases the light quality has been compromised to make the headlight fit.
Uses a full size 2.5" Bi-LED projector headlight that is small enough to fit your car. No compromise on light quality, yet it is designed to fit without modification.

Ford Heads Explained
Manic Mechanic Episode 150
Thanks for watching and please encourage others to subscribe.
Jford@autorestomod.com
www.patreon.com/gasolinemedia
Small block 260 heads were 1.59 intake and 1.39 exhaust valve with 45cc chambers.
Early small block 289 Hi-Po heads were 1.67 intake and 1.39 exhaust with 49.2cc chambers.
Chamber size increased to 54.5cc sometime in 1963 with the C3OE-E casting. What makes these heads special are the screw in studs and built in guide plates for the mechanical cam. Otherwise, the early 289 head had a smaller combustion chamber at 49cc. Unless you are building a 289 Hi-Po there is little reason to get into a set of these heads. Ford kept the same combustion chamber size until 1967 when they bumped it up to 54.4. then again in 1968 when it went to a 63cc chamber.
The C9OE through D1OE heads
Long ago, there were no aftermarket heads. We took what Ford gave and we liked it...or not. So when we went looking for power it came in the form of the C9OE 351 Windsor head.1.84 intake and 1.54 exhaust valves along with a 60.4 chamber could add some power to a 1968 and newer 302. As things go, this is the head of choice...kinda

400 cid.
Bellhousing pattern same as 429/460 (to allow use of already existing heavy-duty transmissions.
Main journal diameter increased by 0.25" to 3.00" for greater bearing surface area (incidentally, same as a 351W)
Crank stroke increased from 3.50" to 4.00" to gain 50 cid.
Deck height increased from 9.206" to 10.297" accommodate larger stroke
New intake manifold for wider deck.
Heads are identical in design to 351-2V, but have larger chambers to reduce compression, may also have air injection ports.
Different harmonic balancer and flexplate than 351C
351M
Same block as 400, but crank is back to 3.50" stroke.
Pistons have thicker compression height to maintain compression a 8.2:1 in the tall deck.
Different harmonic balancer than 400
Production of the 400 and 351M engines ceased in the early 80's, as oil prices began to sky rocket and federal EPA regulations became stricter. Ford turned to its Windsor series engines as the primary V8 options for passenger cars and trucks.
Cylinder heads from all 335 series engines will work.
US
Bad to Baddass
2V heads
351M and 400 heads are the oddly not the worst head on this list though the 78cc open chamber is a killer.
D5AE-AA
All 2V 351 Clevelands have the same 76cc open chamber 76cc
D1AE
4V Heads
1974 4V head. Possibly the worst head Ford ever plopped on a Cleveland 75.4 cc open chamber the same big ports as the older heads but with the added thrill of the same 2.04 intake valve and 1.66 exhaust valve as the 2V. A dead dog walking.
1971-73 Q code head. Honestly my experience with these heads is that they can perform well. 75.4 cc open chamber but with the big 2.19 intake and 1.71 exhaust valves, they can still get out of their own way.
D1AE-DA
D3AE-AA
1972 R code head. Same as the Q code head but with adjustable rockers.
D2AE-A
1971 Boss head. 66.1cc close chamber
1970-71 4V head. Closed chamber head with 62.8cc chambers. The head is quenched offering a better flame front that keeps the fuel cooler with high compression.
Aussie Closed Chamber 2V heads. Basically a US 2V head with closed chambers. Best of both worlds, quench chamber of the 4V with the port velocity and valve size of the 2V.
All 351 2V heads are marked with a 2 in the corner of the head.
All 351 4V heads are marked with a 4. Open chamber 4V heads are marked with a 4 and a dot.
All Boss 302 heads are blank (original use for these heads).
351 M and 400 heads are marked with an M.
Boss 302 heads are set up to run on a 302 block and have water passages in them. Boss 302 heads are unmarked but have a part number in the lifter valley and are always set up for screw in studs. If they are original the guide plates will have a C9ZE part number.

Fix Thunderbird Brake Lights
Episode 551 Autorestomod
We work on the Ford brake light or stop light pressure switch. Unlike the later Mustang switch the one used on the 1956 Thunderbird uses a brake fluid driven pressure switch. We will be installing a Switch, Brake Light: T-13480-2A from National Parts Depot to get rid of the troublesome stock switch. Best thing is that no one will know unless they roll under the dash. And this switch allows for a dual bowl master cylinder conversion!
