Revelation Chapter 3: "Messages to the Churches"
introduction
Revelation 3 presents Christ's message to the Church at Sardis, addressing the difference between their Christian name and lack of good works. Many in the Church, including the bishop, appear alive but are spiritually dead due to their enslavement to sin and neglect of their duties.
Christ calls these individuals to repent and return to apostolic teachings, warning that He will come suddenly, like a thief, to judge those unprepared. This judgment will end earthly toil for the faithful but bring spiritual death to the unrepentant.
However, some in Sardis remain faithful, known by Christ, and walk in purity. If they preserve their sanctity and keep their baptism unblemished, these faithful ones are promised white robes of eternal life. Christ will acknowledge them before His Father and the angels.
This study delves into Sardis's spiritual condition, the urgent call to repentance, and the promises of eternal life to uncover profound theological insights and practical applications relevant to today's Christians.

Never Give Up- Christ Is Our Strength (Philippians 4:13)
Good evening, my brothers and sisters in Christ; as we face life's physical, emotional, or spiritual trials, hold fast to our faith. Never give up, never lose hope. In every moment of despair or hardship, remember the promise in Philippians 4:13: 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.' With these words, let us draw strength from our Lord, Jesus Christ, who empowers us to overcome any obstacle. Stand firm in faith, and trust that we are never alone in our struggles. I'm struggling with many personal afflictions right now, and I'm sharing with the world that we should never give up and stay immovable in our faith and mission in Christ. I know things are tricky for all, but I'm here shining the Light of Christ, so join me. Amen!

The Bible Day 90: Overcoming Reflective, Personal, External, and Community Fears:
Introduction:
Welcome to our Bible study session. Today, we explore overcoming fears through the lens of Psalm 39:1-13, Luke 8:19-39, and Numbers 29:12-31:24. These passages offer profound insights into the human experience of fear and the divine guidance to overcome it.
Psalm 39 encounters a personal, reflective struggle with life's shortness and God's seeming silence. Moving to the New Testament, Luke 8 shows us a powerful external manifestation of fear and its defeat through Christ's miraculous healing of a demon-possessed man. Lastly, in Numbers, we see fear addressed through community action and divine command during the Festival of Tabernacles and subsequent military campaigns.
As we journey through these scriptures, let us observe and actively engage with the many faces of fear they depict. Let us understand how fear operates within us and how faith can guide us toward overcoming it. Together, we will illuminate the paths of faith, obedience, and divine intervention that lead us beyond fear.
Closing Statement:
"As we conclude our exploration of overcoming fears through the teachings of Psalm 39, Luke 8, and Numbers 29-31, we are reminded of the profound truth that our fears, whether they arise from personal struggles, societal pressures, or even confrontations with evil, can be faced with a steadfast spirit when anchored in God's promises. The scriptures we've studied illuminate a path paved by faith in God's wisdom and plans, love as the driving force that transcends our immediate family and reaches out to a community in need, and hope as the horizon that guides us through our present trials towards a future ordained by divine goodness.
The Apostle Paul encapsulates this beautifully in his letters, often referring to the trinity of faith, love, and hope. These virtues are not just isolated qualities but are interconnected and grow from one another. Faith fortifies us, love motivates us, and hope inspires us. As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 13:13, 'And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.' Through these, we not only endure but also overcome our fears, transforming them into opportunities for growth and testimony.
Let us then move forward from this study with a renewed commitment to face our fears not with trepidation but with the assurance that through our faith, nurtured by love and directed by hope, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37). May this assurance fill us each day as we continue to live out the teachings of Christ, turning our fears into milestones of faith, beacons of love, and testimonies of hope.

"Unveiling Truth: Exploring Revelation 2 and the Spiritual Landscape of the Church"
Introduction: (The study used the NKJV for the NT, the Sepguiant (LXX) for OT sources and readings, commentary for the Orthodox Study Bible, and ancient Christian Commentary).
Revelation 2 takes us on a journey into the heart of John's ancient Christian commentary. Here, he addresses the angels of the churches, symbolically representing the entire congregation. Each letter speaks directly to the Church, revealing both praise and rebuke, serving as a mirror for the collective body of believers. Within Christ's Church, false teachings and the allure of sin pose ever-present dangers. John emphasizes the necessity of testing for truth and the assurance of God's pardon for repentant hearts. But mere repentance is not enough; it must be accompanied by transformative actions, particularly acts of love—the promise of reward for faithfulness, whether in martyrdom or repentance. The imagery of the Tree of Life, symbolizing the new life bestowed through the Gospel, underscores the spiritual nourishment in Christ, the eternal bread of Heaven. As we delve into Revelation 2, we enter the spiritual paradise of the Church, where the tree of life, Jesus Christ, offers sustenance and eternal life to all who partake.
2:1: In the video, I covered the standard format of the letters to the seven Churches- "I know" followed by praise and rebuke. "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." (Other sources include Acts 19 and Ancient Christian Commentary).
2:2-5: I Talked about the Chruch of Ephesus and gave a detailed description of the Church in Ephesus, drawing from sources found in (2 Corinthians 11:12-23 and Acts 20:29).
2:6: Most scholars agree that the Nicolaitans were quite possibly an early Gnostic sect or faction, with some early Chruch Fathers in agreement that the founder of this early sect might have been Nicholas, who is mentioned in (Acts 6:5), who was one of the original seven deacons that went astray.
2:7: "The Spirit of the Churches" is a message to all Christians. Tree Life (Genesis 2:9), and to eat this tree is to have eternal life (vv. 11, 17, 26- Revelation 3:5, 12, 21; and Revelation 21:7; John 16:33; & 2Corinthians 4:7-18), the fruit of the tree is spiritual food (1Corinthians 10:3, "the medicine of immorality"). The Tree of Life is also an allusion to the Cross (Galatians 2:20), receive the Paradise of God in Heaven (Luke 23:43, 2Corinthians 12:2-4), city of God, the New Jerusalem (see Revelation 21:1-22:5), contrast this the original earthly paradise.
2:8: Smyrna (Izmir in Modern day Turkey):
2:9: The Church in Smyrna was poor and had lots of persecution but was spiritually rich (Other sources Romans 8:28-29, John 8:31-47, Romans 2:28; and Galatians 6:15).
2:10-11: The Persecution will be done in ten days, see video- The Crown of Life (see, Php 3:14; 2Ti 2:5; 1Pt 5:4). Lake of Fire (Rev 20:6, 14, 15; Rev 21:8).
2:12: Pergamos (Modern Bergama), northeast of Smyrna, 10 miles inland of the Aegean Sea. Sharp-Two-edged sword (see Revelation 19:1-3).
2:13: Satan's throne refers to the city as a seat for idol worship.
2:14: The Doctrine of Balaam (see also Numbers 22-24; and 25:1-3; and Numbers 31:16, and 2Pt 2:15; and Jude 11).
2:16: The Sword of My Mouth: is the Word of the Lord.
2:17: Hidden Manna is an allusion to the bread of Heaven (or also the bread of angels; see Exodus 16:4; Psalm 78:21-25; John 6:31-35; and John 6:48-51) and the Messianic banquet (see Luke 22:28-30).
2:18: Thyatira is southeast of Pergamos; see video for a description of the city (see also Acts 16:14). The eyes of Christ and feet allude to Daniel's vision (see Daniel 10).
2:20: The false prophetess Jezebel (see 1 Kings 18 and 2 Kings 9).
2:22-23: Those who commit adultery are the ones who accept the false teachings.
2:24: The depths of Satan: Those who are genuinely unbelieving that claim to know deep spiritual things, but they are labeled by Christ as delusional.
2:28: The Morning Star is Christ (see Revelation 22:16), He is the Daylight (see Luke 1:78; and 2Pt 1:19), He is the genuine Light (John 1:9). Some say it refers to the eternal life that we share in the reign of is Christ (see Revelation 22:16), He is the Daylight (see Luke 1:78 and 2Pt 1:19), and He is the genuine Light (John 1:9). Some say it refers to the eternal life that we share in Christ.

"Gardens of Redemption"- "Christos Anesti!!!" (Christ Is Risen)
"Gardens of Redemption"- "Christos Anesti!!!" (Christ Is Risen)
In the grand narrative of creation, we witness the divine voice calling forth light and life from the initial darkness in Genesis 1:1-13. This cosmic dance of divinity echoes in John's Gospel, where the Word takes on human form, guiding humanity's journey in John 1:1-18. The story culminates in a garden, where creation and incarnation intersect. In a moment of profound revelation, Mary Magdalene mistakes the risen Christ for a gardener in John 20:11-18, heralding His resurrection and the dawn of a new era.
We Step into the grand tapestry of creation, where a divine masterpiece of light and life emerges from ancient chaos. Genesis 1:1-13 unveils the majestic narrative of creation, where the Creator speaks forth existence into being, separating light from darkness, waters from skies, and land from seas. In this cosmic ballet, vegetation bursts forth from the fertile earth, a garden blooming with the promise of life.
But this ancient tale of creation echoes in the timeless prologue of John's Gospel, where the Word, the essence of divine creativity, becomes flesh and dwells among us. In John 1:1-18, we encounter the cosmic significance of this Word, existing before all time, infusing the universe with light, and inviting humanity into divine communion.
Imagine the scene: the dawn of a new day, the air heavy with the scent of flowers, and the garden tomb shrouded in the shadows of despair. In the calm stillness of the early morning, Mary Magdalene, her heart heavy with grief, encounters a figure she mistakes for the Gardener. In John 20:11-18, we witness a profound convergence of past and present as Christ, the true Gardener, stands amidst the fragrant blossoms, heralding a new dawn of resurrection and renewal.
Consider the striking parallel between this garden encounter and the lush splendor of Genesis. In Genesis 1:11-13, God commands the earth to bring forth vegetation, each seed yielding its plant, and each tree bearing fruit with seeds within it. Here, in this act of divine creation, we witness the birth of life itself—a fertile garden teeming with potential.
Consider the transformative power of the encounters in the garden. In Genesis, God's command brings forth life, a garden teeming with potential. In John 20, Mary's mistaking of Jesus for the Gardener marks a new creation moment. In her tears and confusion, she embodies the universal longing for redemption, for the restoration of what was lost in Eden. And in that sacred moment, as Jesus speaks her name, the garden of her grief is reborn as a garden of resurrection—a place where death gives way to life and despair yields to hope.
So, as we journeyed together through these sacred texts, tracing the divine thread that weaves through the fabric of creation, incarnation, and resurrection. Let us marvel at the boundless creativity of the holy Gardner, who tends to the garden of our souls with tender care, bringing beauty from ashes and life from death. And as we linger in the radiant glow of these ancient narratives, may our hearts be filled with awe and wonder at the ever-unfolding mystery of God's redeeming love.
"Christ is risen, and with him, the garden of our souls blooms anew, vibrant with the promise of redemption and the fragrance of eternal hope."

"Unveiling Revelation: Exploring the Messages of Revelation Chapter 1"
Jared led a detailed discussion on Revelation chapter one, focusing on the visions received by John and the spiritual significance of the seven churches mentioned. He also explored various biblical passages, delving into kingship, priesthood, and divine revelation themes, and highlighted the concept of the Lord's Day in early Christian worship. The conversation ended with a prayer invoking the names of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and a blessing for future discussions on Revelation chapter two.
Revelation Chapter One: John's Visionary Insights
Jared led a discussion on Revelation chapter one, focusing on the revelations received by the philosopher John on the island of Pagos. These visions, Jared explained, were not mere descriptions but profound insights into the divine, introducing and affirming the authority of Jesus Christ. Jared emphasized that the chapter invites readers to journey to understand and interpret the truth and promises of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jared's Exposition on the Seven Churches
Jared addressed the seven churches mentioned in John's writing in Asia. He explained that "Asia" often referred to celestial fatherhood, representing the Universal Church. Jared also emphasized the spiritual significance of the number 7, suggesting it indicates completeness and fittingness for the entire church. He further discussed the Trinitarian doxology involving the Father, the Spirit, and Jesus Christ as the faithful witness, the ruler over the kings of the earth, and the one who loved them and washed them of their sins.
Exploring Biblical Themes and Revelation
Jared delved into various biblical passages, focusing on kingship, priesthood, and divine revelation. He discussed the concept of Jesus Christ as the 'faithful witness' and the 'firstborn from the dead,' ruling over all kings of the earth. He touched upon the book of Revelation, highlighting the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end, and the vision of the Seven Churches in Asia. He also briefly mentioned the island of Patmos, where the book of Revelation is believed to have been written.
Lord's Day, Eucharist, and Symbolism Discussion
Jared led a discussion on the concept of the Lord's Day in the context of early Christian worship. He explained that the Lord's Day, referenced in the book of Revelation, is the earliest known term for Sunday and is associated with celebrating the resurrection and the eucharist. Jared also delved into the symbolism of the seven golden lampstands, which represent the seven churches of Asia, and the Son of Man figure, a recurring motif in both the Old and New Testaments. He invited questions and further exploration of these themes.
Jared's Study on Revelation Chapter 1
Jared led a study on the first chapter of the Book of Revelation, focusing on the appearance of Jesus and the interpretation of the seven stars and churches. He explained that the seven stars represented the angels of the seven churches, the seven golden lampstands symbolized the seven churches, and the seven last trumpets were also associated with the seven churches. Jared emphasized that the past, present, and future are all intertwined in John's vision. He indicated that future studies would delve deeper into the theological aspects of the Book of Revelation.
Jared's Prayer and Revelation Discussion
Jared led a prayer, invoking the names of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, expressing gratitude for divine guidance and asking for forgiveness. He emphasized the importance of pursuing a Christ-like life and asked for protection from temptation and evil. He also mentioned a future discussion on Revelation chapter 2 and ended the conversation with a blessing and farewell.

"Uphold Doctrine" (1 Timothy 4:16)
1 Timothy 4:16:
Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
Paul's message is a solid call to action, urging Timothy and us to guard our conduct and beliefs vigilantly. It recognizes that our commitment to truth shapes our salvation and profoundly impacts those around us. This is a call to steadfastness in upholding the integrity of our faith, ensuring that our lives reflect the profound truths we profess, thereby becoming beacons of light and hope in a world hungering for authenticity and steadfastness.

"Humility, Compassion, & Selfless-Service" (John 13:4-5)
John 13:4-5
rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel, and girded Himself. 5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.
Jesus, the Son of God, demonstrates the depth of his humility and love by selflessly washing his disciples' feet. This profound act is a timeless reminder of the servant-hearted nature we are all called to embody, putting others' needs above our own and serving with humility and compassion.

Renewed In Christ 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
2 Corinthians 4:16-18:
Therefore, we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Paul's words remind us that despite life's trials, we should not be defined by circumstances. Our Bodies may weaken, but our spirits are constantly renewed by hope in Christ. Shift focus from hardships to eternal glory. Through faith, enduring, knowing trials are light compared to God's promised joy.

Narrow Path Matthew 7:13-14
Matthew 7:13-14
"Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 [a]Because narrow is the gate and [b]difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Jesus describes two paths: a broad one leading to destruction and a narrow one leading to life. This imagery signifies the importance of intentional choices in one's spiritual journey. The wide path represents worldly pursuits and indulgence, while the narrow path symbolizes the disciplined pursuit of God's will. Ultimately, this passage urges us to consider the seriousness of our choices and embrace faithfulness and obedience to God.

Lost Sheep- Matthew 18:12
Matthew 18:12
"What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying?
Matthew 18:12 portrays Jesus as a shepherd who leaves ninety-nine to find one lost sheep, illustrating His care for everyone. Church Fathers interpreted this as symbolizing Christ's incarnation, leaving the angels (ninety-nine) to rescue humanity (the one sheep) from sin. This passage emphasizes Christ's unique love and pursuit of each person, highlighting His willingness to leave the safety of heaven to save those who have strayed.

My Religious Experience With Islam (Assignment for World's Religion Class- Bushnell University)
"Religious Exploration: An Interfaith Experience"
Introduction: Greetings, everyone. I am Jared W Campbell, and today, I am thrilled to recount my journey of discovery at an Islamic sermon titled 'Juz by Juz—A Daily Reflection for Tarawih' on April 3, 2024. This unique opportunity as an Orthodox Christian allowed me to delve into a different religious tradition, unveiling its practices and teachings.
Observations: As I absorbed the sermon, I was deeply moved by the emphasis on gratitude and thankfulness towards Allah during Ramadan. This resonated with my experiences in Orthodox Christianity, where expressing gratitude for our blessings is paramount.
Shared Values: - Peace, Love, and Unity: During the sermon, there was a beautiful message of peace, love, and unity. In the Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah (2:208) states: 'O you who have believed, enter into Islam completely [and perfectly] and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.' This verse emphasizes the significance of unity and following the path of righteousness. Similarly, in the Bible, Colossians 3:14 says: 'And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.' This verse from the Bible also highlights the significance of love and unity in the Christian faith.
Community and Fellowship: One of the most striking aspects of the Islamic sermon was the palpable sense of community and fellowship. Much like in Orthodox Christianity, gathering with fellow believers to worship and remember Allah was a central part of the experience. This experience was a powerful reminder of the importance of communal worship and the need to foster a sense of belonging and support within our faith communities.
Conclusion: Attending the Islamic sermon was a transformative experience, allowing me to recognize and appreciate the shared values between Islam and Orthodox Christianity. Despite the distinct theological differences, both traditions uphold common values such as gratitude, peace, love, unity, and the significance of community. This experience has broadened my understanding of religious diversity and underscored the necessity of mutual respect and dialogue among different faiths.

The Bible Day 86: "Divine Guidance, Compassion, and Faith
Jared led a Bible study focusing on various scriptures, emphasizing the importance of trusting God's guidance, compassion, and faith and the contrast between the fate of the righteous and the wicked. He also discussed the message of divine justice, the teachings of Jesus, and the parables, highlighting the importance of self-examination, mercy in judgment, and active implementation of Christ's teachings. Lastly, he shared stories from the Bible, discussed the themes of obedience and divine command in the books of Samuel and Jonah, and reflected on the reliability of God's promises and the importance of faithfulness in prophetic speech.
Obedience, Divine Command, and Consequences
Jared led a discussion on the themes of obedience and divine command in the books of Samuel and Jonah. He highlighted how the characters in these books, such as Samuel and Jonah, faced challenges recognizing and obeying God's will and how their disobedience led to consequences. Jared also emphasized the importance of identifying and following God's instructions, noting that personal motives can interfere with divine plans. The discussion concluded by reflecting on the reliability of God's promises and the importance of faithfulness in prophetic speech.
Jared's Parables and Teachings of Jesus
Jared spoke about various parables and teachings of Jesus, including the importance of self-examination and removing one's faults before judging others. He emphasized that actions reveal one's true character and that a good foundation leads to stability in adversity. Jared also shared the story of the servant of a centurion, who demonstrated great faith and trust in Jesus by asking him to heal his servant. This story, Jared noted, impressed Jesus as an example of great faith, even among non-Israelites.
Mercy, Forgiveness, and Faith in Christ's Teachings
Jared emphasized the importance of mercy in judgment, noting that generosity is more honored than measure and that the spirit of giving and forgiving determines the blessings received. He highlighted that Jesus does not judge but saves and that genuine discipleship requires active implementation of Christ's teachings, not just hearing them. Jared also discussed two parallels - the wise and foolish builders in the Sermon on the Mount and the healing of the centurion and Naaman. Both demonstrate the power of faith and its accessibility to all who believe, regardless of background. He concluded by transitioning to the Book of Numbers.
Biblical Stories and Personal Experiences
Jared shared a series of stories from the Bible, starting with that of Balaam, who had angered an angel by striking his donkey three times. Despite Balaam's initial intentions, the angel spoke through the donkey, and Balaam could not curse the Israelites as Balak, the king of Moab, had summoned him to do. Jared then recounted his own experiences, where he was instructed to curse specific individuals but found himself unable to do so, as their actions were not opposed to God's will. He also shared a vision of witnessing an offering ceremony, where he was instructed to relay a message about the unfaithfulness of Moab but felt powerless to reverse the blessings given.
