My neighbors have plenty of goats and probably have been very successful at maintaining a healthy herd. They are getting their second crop of babies right now and I popped up to show their great setup and adorable babies.

It's baby goat time (for my neighbors)! Here's a snapshot of the fun, but I plan to go up and video their setup, and more babies!

I finally got things moving again on my fence project. I used field fence on all but one section. I chose to use barb wire for a few reasons. Here's what I did...

Part 2

This is part 1 of 2 parts. This is the longest stretch of the fence. There are a few tricks to getting it stretched properly and tight. I tried something I haven't done before and it worked beautifully. Definitely it's how I will be doing things in the future.

Perilla mint grows here in NW Arkansas. I pull it when I see it. Bad weeds can kill your livestock, so it's good to learn about your local weeds.

Punkin was late to breed last year so she's having a July baby. She was perfectly fine with me being there, but when the other cows came to check things out she got antsy and kept sucking the baby back in!

She's 1 day old and doing fine, but there are a couple issues. It takes a couple days for calves to get used to their legs, but little Julia has an issue with her legs. It's temporary I'm sure, but maybe as I work through this with her it will help someone else who encounters something similar.

After A Challenging Birth (due to Punkin getting up and sucking her back in a couple times) little Julia is getting her first meal. I had to assist her getting on her feet at first, and help her find her breakfast. Good thing Punkin is so good about all that!

Day 3 Tito

Day 2 for Tito

I have not been able to catch Tito until today! I had to do a few things to make it happen. Things worked out right this morning so we're off!

Anya hurt her foot.

A few weeks back I decided to switch Anya to a higher protein feed (20%range cubes) so she wouldn't drop weight as Hank takes more and more milk. What happened, immediately, was that Hank got scours and it scalded his little butt! All the hair fell out around his butt where his runny poo stuck. Then his poo turned white! Of course I switched Anya back to the other feed and just doubled her ration. Very quickly Hank settled back to normal and now his hair has grown back and he's fine! Lesson learned!
