This is the first of four volumes by Fr. Johannes Dörmann (1922-2009) analyzing the seismic theological departures of one of the most popular and consequential pontificates of the 20th Century.
Fr. Dörmann was an accomplished scholar/theologian and a faithful priest of Jesus Christ in the Archdiocese of Cologne, Germany. Ordained in 1953, he served as chaplain and pastor from 1953 through 1966 while continuing studies in Missionary Evangelism (Missiology), Ethnology, Ethnosociology and Comparative Religions. He received his Doctorate from Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) in 1963. In addition to his formidable competencies in Mathematics, Physics, Philosophy and Theology, he also taught Comparative Religions and Missionary Evangelism. Both his fidelity and his fields of expertise made him a uniquely competent theologian to assess the theological program of Pope John Paul II. This multi-volume study begins with the simple question: "As a man thinks, so he acts: How does this pope think?" Fr. Dörmann's earnest and non-polemical yet inescapable conclusions may prove devastating to those who were understandably charmed by Pope John Paul II's charismatic style and by their memories of the euphoric, personality-centered religious events staged during his pontificate.
This work makes an invaluable contribution toward clearing away the confusion of the unprecedented post-Conciliar era leading to the present pontificate of Pope Francis.
[Regrettably, this book is currently out of print - perhaps a great demand could convince Angelus Press to publish it again.]

____________________________________
For they the Church’s Princes are,
Triumphant leaders in the war,
The heavenly King’s own warrior band,
True lights to lighten every land.
Theirs was the steadfast faith of Saints,
The hope that never yields nor faints,
The love of Christ in perfect glow,
That lay the prince of this world low.

Belli triumphales duces
Cœlestis aulæ milites,
Et vera mundi lumina.
Devota sanctorum fides,
Invicta spes credentium,
Perfecta Christi caritas
Mundi tyrannum conterit.)

"Spiritual Journey" describes sanctity, both simple and profound, based upon the writings of Saint Thomas Aquinas. "Souls find in the Summa not only the light of the faith, but also the source of sanctity." Originally written for priests and seminarians, it is now a popular favorite. In satisfying the intellect rather than the emotions, we're encouraged to make "a total and unreserved offering of ourselves to God by our Lord Jesus Christ Crucified."
