World championships SAN MARINO MotoGP. BMW M AWARD - M5 CS SPORT CAR 20/09/2021
BMW M Award in MotoGP™: the spectacular winner’s car for 2021 is the brand new BMW M5 CS sport car.
Article by Joëlle RONDI. 20 sept 2021.
The BMW M Award competition is an integral part of MotoGP™. In 2021, the prize is presented to the fastest qualifier for the 19th time. So, the 2021 winner can once again receive the newest BMW M5 CS (fuel consumption, combined: 11.3 – 11.1 l/100 km [25.0–25.5 mpg imp] correspond to NEDC; 11,3 – 10,9 l/100 km correspond to WLTP, CO2 emissions, combined: 258–253 g/km correspond to NEDC, 257 – 248 g/km correspond to WLTP)*. in Frozen Deep Green metallic. BMW M GmbH traditionally unveils the winner’s car at the opening European round of the MotoGP™ season, which this year 2021 is in Portimão, Portugal, for the first time. People around the world can take a look at the BMW M5 CS online... and on official sites of BMW M GmbH and MotoGP™.
BMW M GmbH has ultra-sporty CS models; and is expanding its ranks of ultra-sporty CS models with the introduction of the BMW M5 CS.
The limited-run special-edition model blends standout performance attributes with an exclusive and luxurious appearance and the 4.4-litre V8 engine with 467 kW/635 hp makes the BMWM5 CS the most powerful car in the history of BMWM.
Markus Flasch, CEO of BMW M GmbH said :
“The BMW M5 CS has been in action as one of our new MotoGP safety cars since the season-opener in Qatar. As such, it was an obvious decision for us to offer its production counterpart as the prize for the 2021 BMW M Award,”
And he added: “For almost two decades, the BMW M Award has been a pillar of our involvement as ‘Official Car of MotoGP’. It has always been important to us to honour the qualifying performances of the MotoGP riders with a spectacular prize. In 2021, we are presenting the BMW M5 CS – the new top model in our range of high-performance automobiles. We now have our fingers crossed for all the MotoGP riders – we are intrigued to see who will get their hands on the BMW M5 CS at the season finale, as the winner of the BMW M Award.”
“Every year, BMW M GmbH unveils a real highlight as the prize for the BMW M Award at the first European race of the season, and this is the case once again in 2021,” said Pau Serracanta, Managing Director of the Commercial Department of MotoGP™ commercial rights holder Dorna Sports. “The BMW M5 CS has already impressed us as a safety car, and the production version of this high-performance automobile really is a spectacular prize for our most successful qualifier. It once again underlines how important involvement in MotoGP is for our partner BMW M GmbH. We are excited to see which of our riders will win the coveted BMW M Award at the end of the season.”
----------
The M Power under the bonnet, gives the BMW M5 CS sprints from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.0 seconds, and from 0 – 200 km/h (124 mph) in 10.3 seconds. Top speed is an electronically governed 305 km/h (189 mph). The high-performance engine teams up with an eight-speed MSteptronic transmission with Drivelogic and uses the MxDrive all-wheel-drive system, which also offers a 2WD mode for pure rear-wheel drive, to channel its power to the road.
BMW M GmbH has always focussed on the importance of lightweight design and so it is with the BMW M5 CS.
The lightweight importance means tge M5 CS chassis has also been adapted to the weight of the car, which is lighter than other M5 models, with retuned bearing springs at the front and rear axle, and further refined damper control.
The stainless steel M5 CS sports exhaust has four unadorned tailpipes. Other features include the M Carbon ceramic brakes.
The M5 CS is luxurious, sporty appearance . It continues with more highlights both inside and outside the car. The bonnet, front splitter, exterior mirror caps, rear spoiler, rear diffuser, M Power engine compartment cover and intake silencer are made from carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP).
Some elements feature exposed carbon fibre. The exceptional driving experience on board the BMW M5 CS can have four people – the driver and front passenger , and 2two other passengers in M Carbon seats, in the individual rear seats.
The integral head restraints – with illuminated M5 logos for the front seats – display an outline of the legendary Nürburgring circuit.
The centre marker perforation with red background on the MAlcantara steering wheel is a classical racing car touch; thegearshiftpaddles are made from carbon fibre.
The BMW M Award winner’s car has the basic colour of the BMW M5 CS MotoGP safety car; and match the Frozen Deep Green metallic paint job...
The BMW M Award is one of the many BMW M activities as the ‘Official Car of MotoGP’. The MotoGP™ rider with the best results in qualifying, since 2003, has been rewarded with an exclusive, individually designed BMW M car at the end of the season. It works with the scoring system for the race, as the riders receive points for their positions in qualifying at each Grand Prix weekend. The rider who has picked up the most points at the end of the season wins the coveted BMW M Award.
The record holder is Marc Márquez, who already had claimed the BMW M Award seven times in a row from 2013 to 2019. The last season, in 2020, the talented French pilote Fabio Quartararo joined the winners list for the first time ! ...

World championships SAN MARINO MotoGP. DELL'ORTO Technology: NEW ECU .MOTO3™ Sept 2021
DELL'ORTO: THE brand New Technology: EVOLUTION OF THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT IN MOTO3™
DoPOWER1 is a brand new product - a concentrate of pure technology- developed in the DELL’ORTO Research & Development centre.
Article by Joelle RONDI. (sept. 2021).
After 10 years of success, the Moto3 ECU is completely redesigned to adapt to the new technology of our 21st century.
The current technical update arises from the difficulty to get a restock of some electrical components that DELL'ORTO engineers have turn into a challenge and an opportunity for renewal. The redesign is prrfectly made with state-of-the-art components; the new control unit is ● lighter (-10%) and ● more compact (-20%) than the previous unit.
“DoPower1” is a brand new product that definitely stands out for its ● high processing capacity, essential for the development of control strategies which today include engine brake management, launch control, traction control, anti-jerk and quick-shifter.
Data acquisition has been further developed with the possibility of acquiring additional analog inputs and the 6-axis inertial platform. The ECU is supplied with a complete software suite for manufacturers and teams, which includes SW for engine calibration, map correction, data analysis and chassis management.
Paolo Colombo –is R&D Lab. Manager of Dell’Orto S.p.A.
–He explains“we have decided to keep the same high quality manufacture that distinguishes us, such as the aluminum case and the 55 gold-plated pins of the autosport connector. The control unit keeps all the current functions, in compliance with the technical freezing regime. Nevertheless, the solutions used are suitable to support further developments. For example, we have the possibility to implement the ride-by-wire, should it be requested. In this way we have all the credentials to support this exciting class in the years to come, ensuring the necessary stability and continuity over time, without precluding new important developments such as, for example, the introduction of sustainable fuels. This is DELLORTO philosophy about sustainable development”.
Andrea Dell’Orto –is Vice President of Dell’Orto S.p.A. says :“DELLORTO has been thesolesupplier of the electronic control unit for the light class of the world championship since 2012 (when the moto3TMproject started) and is a MotoGPTMlong-time partner. We started with the carburetor and the re-search of the perfect carburation…we have seen so many Champions gets their hands dirty with our carburetors! Today we are on track with the electronics (and more). Innovation is a constant written in our DNA made of passion and competence, which has made us an internationally established, cutting-edge company. “DELL'ORTO: THE New New Technology: EVOLUTION OF THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT IN MOTO3™
