We’re all very familiar with the words of Paul in Eph 5:22 where he says, "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord." In some churches this is drilled into the congregation on a regular basis so that the wives and young ladies know that their place is to submit to their husbands. And little if anything is said about husbands loving their wives as Christ loved the church. And when this is the emphasis, it has the tendency to produce unhealthy, dysfunctional marriages. It promotes an authoritative leadership style that is unbiblical and unchristlike and it can lead to emotional and physical abuse.

What’s the one thing we can do as a couple that will draw us closer to one another and increase the intimacy in our marriage? It doesn’t matter how far apart you may feel from your spouse, when you start to pray together something begins to shift. Praying as a couple pushes us towards the direction of intimacy that God intends.

When we begin to dwell on the lies from the enemy, we soon believe them; and when we believe them, that affects our behavior and it affects our attitude towards our spouse. And before you know it, what started out as a healthy, thriving relationship soon becomes a shipwreck. And Satan has destroyed another Christian marriage.

If it is your desire to live the Christian life being led and guided by the truth of God’s Word, then there are decisions you are going to have to make every single day. One of those decisions is to choose not to be offended, to forgive, and not to allow ourselves to be controlled and led by our own bitterness and unforgiveness.

Family relationships are our most precious treasure. Be careful to make them a higher priority than work or even ministry to others.

The true test of our spirituality is not found in the church but in the home. And if our Christianity is going to be effective, it first must prove itself in the Christian home. Your relationships at home and your attitude towards your spouse and other family members, say a lot more about your relationship with the Lord than anything you do or say at church.

Relationships are the most precious treasure we have. But we need to be intentional and carefully invest in the life of each child.

Your own personal walk with the Lord is perhaps the most significant factor that makes a successful parent.

Because if you aren't praying for your children, it's likely that no one else is either.
