KEEP SAFETY ITEMS IN YOUR TRUNK:
Safety items are essential: a vest, a tire gauge, cones, flares, and other items may never be used, but they are the things that when you need them, you really need them and are really glad you have them.
Also don't forget to put some peppermints and granola bars into your glove compartment for use in case you become drowsy and aren't able to pull over because of weather or locale. Usually eating those will give you a lift and keep you alert until you're able to pull over safely.

ARE THE WALKERS WATCHING?! | DRIVING LESSONS WITH MR. T. | BECOME A ROAD NAVIGATOR | DRIVE TO SAVE LIVES
Hey you awesome drivers! In this driving video, Mr. T. is narrating how to make a correct and successful right turn. And note:
--Driving to Save Lives," means that it's your commission as a driver and a road navigator to not only protect those inside your vehicle, but to protect those who are outside your vehicle . . . from themselves and their careless actions.
-- Protecting people from themselves while driving means that you are constantly on the watch for pedestrians who are carelessly stepping into the road, bicyclists and motorcyclists who are neglecting good roadway skills, and other vehicles that are driving poorly.
-- To turn Left out of your parking space, use two reference points:
(1) the window frame between the driver and his back seat, and
(2) the very end point of the lines next to you in the parking lot
-- When these two reference points are aligned, you can turn your steering wheel completely Left, and the car will exit the parking spot without getting too close to the other parked cars on your side and on the other side of the lot.
-- Most accidents happen in a five-mile radius from your home! As we get closer to home, especially after a long drive, we tend to let our guard down and can become careless. Stay on guard at all times behind the wheel.
-- Become aware of the discoloration in the middle of your lane, created by the oil and gas leaks of thousands of cars driving on that lane. This line of discoloration will help you to keep steady in the middle of the lane if you position the middle of your dashboard right over the line of discoloration.

CROSSING MULTI-LANE ROADS | DRIVING LESSONS WITH MR. T. | DRIVING TO SAVE LIVES
Hey all you great drivers! In this driving video, Mr. T. narrates through crossing over a multiple-lane roadway.
And note:
-- Wait patiently until both directions are clear before you proceed across.
-- Whenever possible, rather than cutting across the highway, it's safer to simply turn right and make a few extra turns in order to get to the desired road

WHAT'S AROUND YOUR CAR? | BE SURE TO LEAVE ROOM FOR IT! | DRIVING LESSONS WITH MR. T. | DRIVING TO SAVE LIVES
Mr. T. talks about the space around your car as he scans for animals in the roadway, always keeping that big buffer space for safety.
And note:
-- "Space is your best friend" when you're driving.
-- Every few seconds, check your mirrors and the roadway in front and in back of your car, and confirm that you have a good amount of open space around your vehicle at all times.
--Constantly watching for wild animals running into the roadway is something you must train yourself to do, especially at dusk when they are most likely to be out feeding and wanting to cross the road.
--Keeping a good distance constantly around your car--in front, in back, and on both sides will help avoid any accidents.
-- The space buffer will give you time and space to move away, slam on the brakes, or otherwise evade the situation, if a deer runs out onto the roaday or if anyone or anything enters your path.
--Above all, keeping within the speed limit or slightly below it will usually offer the best protection against sudden collision with wildlife.

WHAT'S A LEFT-LONG TURN?! | DRIVING LESSONS WITH MR. T. | BE AN EXCELLENT DRIVER | DRIVE TO SAVE LIVES
What's a "left-long" turn and why do we call it that? Find out as Mr. T. narrates through it.
And note:
--A "long left" turn is simply a left turn; the word "long" reminds you that you are driving "long" straight across the intersection before you make the actual turn (as opposed to a "short" turn when you are making a right).
--Roadways are paved one lane at a time, so you will usually find a "seam" in the middle of every roadway, usually right between each of the lanes.
-- It's important to become aware of that seam; it will help you to keep your car in your lane, to the side of the seam.
-- Then, when you've mastered noticing the seam in the road between the lanes, you will want to master finding the discoloration in the lane itself.
-- If you look carefully, you will always find that the middle of your lane has a clear line of discoloration, meaning that the entire line of the center of your lane will be either slightly darker or slightly lighter.
-- The discoloration is caused by oil and fluid leaks from the thousands of cars that have driven on that road, and when drivers become aware of it, it helps them to stay in the middle of the lane and not drift to the side.
-- So if you are having trouble staying in the midle of the lane, then look for that discoloration, and you will find it easier to stay in the center of the lane.
-- This is another example of "line of sight/path of travel" which means that your hands will steer the vehicle where your eyes are looking.

ABOUT THE LEFT LANE | DRIVNG LESSON WITH MR. T.
Here Mr. T. will narrate making a correct and successful left turn into a left lane.
And note:
--In the "need for speed"/left lane," we will generally travel a little faster, but this does not mean to go over the speed limit, even when we are passing another car.
--SMOG means Scan, look in Mirror, glance Over shoulder, Go
--Cluster of Five refers to the over-roadway traffic lights
--Important to notice debris in the road and avoid it: broken glass, rocks, sand, and more
-- However, the debris usually gets brushed to the side and then a clear "lane" forms in the middle of it. Look for this "lane" and stay within it--it will guide you perfectly through the turn.
-- And above all, watch out for that debris and avoid it; driving over the debris in the road will eventually land you at the tire shop.

RIGHT-HAND TURNS | LEFT-HAND TURNS | DRIVING LESSONS WITH MR. T.
Mr. T. will explain what goes into learning how to make careful and successful right and left turns.
And note:
-- When turning Left, always look Left, Right, and Left again, in case a car has appeared and you'll need to wait for it to pass.
-- When turning Right, always look Left, Right, Left, and Right again, in case a pedestrian has appeared and has stepped onto the roadway.
-- It's crucial that you check for pedestrians and bicyclists and vehicles on both left and right before you proceed into any turn.
-- Avoid driving over the debris, rocks, glass, pebbles, that gather up at the corner of the road. If you drive over this debris, your chances of getting a flat tire are very high because the tire will probably pick up a nail.
-- The debris in the road actually goes into the shape of a lane that you can drive through, and this will help you stay in your lane.
-- Remember that if you stay at the posted speed (the speed listed on the sign), you will probably get through every green light on that road. This is because the lights are actually timed along with the speed limits to cause the vehicles to keep moving.
-- Finally, "Hurry Up and Stop" is a great way to remember that we do not want to speed away from a light only to get caugtht at the next light

LINES AND DOTS IN THE ROAD | DRIVING LESSON WITH MR. T.
In this narrated driving lesson, Mr. T. will take you through a correct and successful left turn.
And note:
-- "Dots" in the road are the half-size painted lines. The long, broken, painted lines become half-sized dots when you are entering a turning lane.
-- Watch for the dots and at about the fourth dot, move into your turning lane so you'll have plenty of space to straighten out before you make that turn.
-- When turning Left, start in your Left lane, then turn directly into the Left lane of the new road and stay there until you can safely change lanes.
-- This is summed up by saying: the lane you're in is the lane you stay in when you turn.

RIGHT-HAND TURNS | DRIVING LESSON WITH MR. T.
Here Mr. T. will explain how to make a correct and successful right turn.
And note:
-- Line of Sight/Path of Travel means that I will naturally steer the car to wherever my eyes are looking, so I must always keep my eyes on the middle of my lane when the car is moving.
-- To center your car in your lane, look for the road discoloration line created by all the cars--it is a darkened line right in the middle of most lanes; once you see it on one lane, you'll see it on most lanes.

DRIVING IN REVERSE | DRIVING LESSON WITH MR. T.
Jump in and drive along with Mr. T. as he explains what goes into learning how to drive in reverse.
And note:
-- When driving in reverse, it is important to drive slowly and "ride your brake" which means to keep a slight pressure on the brake in order to maintain a very slow speed.
-- When driving in reverse, you must look completely over your shoulder as long as the car is going backwards. Would you go forwards with your eyes closed? Of course not, but that is what you're doing if you go backwards without looking behind. Having said that, if you have a rearview camera, you can use that as your "eyes," but there is still no substitute for taking a solid visual sweep of the area behind the car before proceeding backwards.
-- Always, always, always, ensure that there are no children playing behind your car before you proceed. Remember that there is a large blind spot in front of your car when you're in the driver's seat, and an even larger blind spot in the back of your car. You cannot be too careful here--be sure to check, every time.
-- To "ride my brake" specifically means that I am just barely touching my foot to the brake--allowing my foot to hover over the brake gently--so that the car will proceed at a very slow pace, and I can stop it quickly if necessary.

HOW TO MAKE TURNS | DRIVING LESSON WITH MR. T.
Learn how to drive with Mr. T. as he explains what goes into making careful and successful right and left turns.

STOP AND GO | DRIVING LESSON WITH MR. T. | LEARN HOW TO DRIVE
Watch as Mr. T. narrates what goes into learning to increase and decrease your vehicle speed.
Learn to accelerate slowly and steadily.
Learn to brake slowly and steadily, different from slamming on the brakes or "stopping on a dime," which must be done in emergencies and will be covered in another lesson.
And note:
-- This is slow, smooth braking and is different from fast, hard, emergency braking or "stopping on a dime/slamming on the brakes" which we will cover in the Evasive Maneuvers module.
-- A large number of fender benders happen when we are stopped and waiting for the car in front of us to pull onto the main road.
-- After the car in front of you has inched forward or pulled onto the main road, be sure to wait one second before you proceed to ensure that car in front of you is actually continuing forward and not stopping.
-- Most cars will stop and go a few times before actually continuing onto the main road so watch and be prepared to stop too.
