St. Albans, Queens, New York - On July 9, 2022 at 6:22 p.m., NYPD officers fatally shot a Queens man, identified as Raul Antonio Hardy, who had called 911 to threaten top New York officials. “He threatened our governor, he threatened numerous elected officials and dignitaries and he threatened members of the Police Department,” NYPD Chief of Patrol Jeff Maddrey said at a press conference by the scene of the crime, on 116th Ave. near Francis Lewis Blvd. in St. Albans. “He clearly stated that he was going to ‘blow the head off’ of the first police officers that he saw.” Hardy also named Mayor Adams as a target. A sergeant from the 113th Precinct led “multiple units” to the vicinity of the Hardy’s address, getting out of their vehicles a few houses away. Outside, they saw Hardy, who began firing after a “short verbal exchange” including threats and cursing at the cops, according to Maddrey. He refused to listen to the commands of the officers as they told him to take his hands out of his pockets and brandished a firearm and pointed it at the officers. This is when Hardy received multiple magdumps from Glock handguns. The officers had their firearms drawn and a firefight ensued. “At least six members of the 113th Precinct fired their guns.” They fired more than 100 shots, Maddrey estimated. After Hardy was taken down, cops cuffed him and attempted to apply “life-saving measures.” Hardy died at a local hospital. St. Albans is a residential neighborhood in the southeastern portion of the New York City borough of Queens.

Salt Lake City, Utah – On November 8, 2022, a 37-year-old man received several unwanted high-speed projectiles from two Salt Lake City Police Department officers. The incident occurred in a detached garage of a Sugar House home near 1700 South and 900 East after a mental health outreach team called police for backup. Before officers arrived to the garage, a mobile crisis outreach team with Huntsman Mental Health Institute responded to the home. Shortly after, the crisis team requested officer assistance. Two officers responded. Once they arrived at the garage at about 11:40 a.m., a member of the crisis outreach team spoke with one of them about the man’s recent drug use, prior police interactions and the team’s safety concerns. Inside the garage were two Salt Lake officers, two members of the crisis team, and a family member. For almost eight minutes, the man talked with the mental health professionals as he sat on a bed. Bodycam video shows two individuals that can be heard telling the man how he can vote and that his family loves him. But the man makes a sudden movement toward the end of the bed. That is when the two officers suddenly open fire and the man receives several unwanted high-speed projectiles, also known as jacketed hollow points - commonly known as JHP. Body cam video shows what appears to be a firearm under the man’s bed. It’s unclear if the apparent weapon was ever fired. The man remains at a local hospital and is expected to survive.

Police bodycam footage Jason Sanderson pulls ghost gun on LAPD shooting video
On October 11, 2022 around 3:30 a.m., Harbor Patrol officers were conducting extra patrol in the area of North Banning Boulevard and East E Street. They observed a blue, GMC, pick-up truck south of their location. The vehicle accelerated and collided with a tree located on the traffic medium on East E Street. The officers responded to the site of the traffic collision to investigate. As they deployed to the scene of the collision, they observed that the vehicle was empty, and its occupant had fled. Upon broadcasting the vehicle license plate information, officers learned the vehicle was reported stolen. After a brief search of the area, officers located the suspect hiding in some nearby bushes. A foot pursuit ensued in which the suspect was chased from East E Street onto northbound Quay Avenue. At the end of the foot pursuit the suspect pointed a semi-automatic pistol at the pursuing officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting. Officers redeployed to nearby parked vehicles and radioed for help. The suspect sought cover behind a parked semi-truck trailer and fired several additional rounds at the officers. Approximately five minutes after the first OIS, the suspect pointed a firearm at the responding officers and second OIS occurred in which the suspect was struck by gunfire. Officers formed an arrest team and took the suspect into custody.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced the suspect deceased at scene. No officers were injured during the incident.
Numerous items of evidence were recovered near the suspect’s body which included a 9mmPlymer 80 semi-automatic “Ghost Gun” pistol, one ten round magazine, a loaded Rossi stainless steel .38 caliber revolver with three spent casings and two live rounds in the cylinder, and (2) 9mm spent casings. Additionally, the suspect was carrying a satchel during the OIS that contained a loaded J22, .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol, and additional .38 caliber and .22 caliber ammunition.
LAPD’s specialized Force Investigation Division responded to the scene and are investigating this Officer-Involved Shooting.
The complete investigation will be reviewed by the Chief of Police, the Board of Police Commissioners, and the Office of the Inspector General to determine the thoroughness and accuracy of the investigation and whether the use of deadly force complied with LAPD’s policies and procedures. Representatives from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Inspector General responded to the scene.

Sacramento, California – On October 18, 2022, two Sacramento County Sheriff SWAT team members fatally shot a man who reportedly threatened violence and came out of a south Sacramento home holding his girlfriend and a shotgun. The deadly shooting occurred just outside the home in the 3900 block of 41st Street, just south of 14th Avenue in an unincorporated neighborhood of Sacramento County. Vincent Martinez, 55, of Sacramento was later identified as the man shot by deputies, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. The incident began about 10:10 a.m. as a reported domestic violence incident. Inside the home was the suspect, his girlfriend, his adult daughter, his daughter’s boyfriend and his 3-year-old granddaughter. The caller told dispatchers she believed her father was “intoxicated and under the influence of methamphetamine.” The sheriff’s SWAT team and hostage negotiators arrived at the home and started communicating with the suspect who was still inside with his girlfriend. Sgt. Kionna Rowe, a spokeswoman for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said negotiators first began speaking to the suspect via a loud speaker before speaking to him on the phone. “They had him on the line, and he was making statements that he was going to shoot, he wanted to shoot a cop,” Rowe said. The suspect spoke to negotiators about some unknown male, asking for him to come back into the house. Rowe said the suspect threatened to “come out shooting,” if the unknown male didn’t return within five minutes. She said the suspect shortly after threatened that deadline to three minutes. About 10 minutes later, the suspect “unexpectedly” opened the home’s front door and appeared holding his girlfriend and the shotgun, Rowe said. At that point, the SWAT team had already surrounded the home. Rowe said two deputies fired their guns, striking the suspect. She said nothing was said between the suspect and the deputies in the moments before the shots were fired.

Bodycam video Tyson Hampton fatal shooting of Las Vegas Police officer
#police #shooting #bodycam #lasvegas
Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only Las Vegas, NV -- Las Vegas Metropolitan police released footage Monday showing a police shooting that killed 49-year-old Officer Truong Thai and the subsequent arrest of a suspect last week.
Officer Thai was one of two officers who responded to a domestic disturbance call just after 1 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 on Flamingo Road near University Center Drive.
A woman had called police to report that she had been battered by her husband, later identified as 24-year-old Tyson Hampton, Assistant Sheriff Andrew Walsh said. The woman was waiting for police with her mother in the 800 block of Flamingo.
Metro Officer Gillihan first arrived and spoke to both women before Officer Thai arrived just before 1:50 a.m. Thai then walked to Hampton, who was sitting in a car a short distance away from the victim, Walsh said. Thai asked Hampton what was going on, and when Hampton did not reply, Thai told him to put his hands on the steering wheel, which he did while staying silent. Hampton then looked to the passenger seat and took his hands off the wheel before Thai reached into the car and tried to control Hampton’s arm, according to Walsh. Thai told Hampton to get out of the car while Gillihan walked up to the rear of the vehicle before Hampton drove away. Hampton then reached out and started shooting at the officers while driving away very slowly, Walsh said. One of the rounds Hampton fired hit Thai while both officers shot back. Hampton fired a total of 18 rounds during the incident, according to Walsh.
Police later found that Hampton had been armed with an AK-47 pistol and a handgun.
Hampton was later arrested near Desert Inn Road and Eastern Avenue after being bitten by a K-9 officer. He was taken to the Clark County Detention Center once he was treated for his bite wounds. Hampton faces the following charges related to the shooting and domestic disturbance call:
Felony open murder with the use of a deadly weapon
Four counts of felony attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon
Felony discharging a gun at/into an occupied structure/vehicle/craft
Felony discharging a gun within structure/vehicle/prohibited area
Felony battery with the use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm
Misdemeanor domestic battery, first offense
Thai later died at the hospital that morning. He was a 23-year veteran of the department.
Hampton previously pleaded nolo contendere, which means he accepted allegations but denied guilt, to a misdemeanor charge of drawing a deadly weapon in a threatening manner in 2021.

San Antonio Police Bodycam video fatal Shooting of Erik Cantu at McDonald's
#police #shooting #cops #bodycam
Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only
The Texas police officer who shot a 17-year-old man while he was eating a meal in a McDonald’s parking lot last week has been named, as the teen remains in critical condition, Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said in a statement.
San Antonio Officer James Brennand, described by the police department as a probationary officer with seven months of experience, was fired for violating the agency’s tactics, training and procedures, police said.
Brennand shot Erik Cantu who was still reported to be in critical condition on Saturday and is “literally fighting for his life,” his defense attorney, Brian Powers, told CNN on behalf of the teen’s family. Cantu was initially charged with evading detention in a vehicle and assaulting the officer, who had claimed he was struck by the door of the car as the teen backed up.
“While Sunday’s shooting of an unarmed teenager by a then-San Antonio Police officer remains under investigation, the facts and evidence we have received so far led us to reject the charges against Erik Cantu for further investigation,” Gonzales’ office said in a statement.
“Once SAPD completes its investigation into the actions of former Officer James Brennand and submits the case to our office, our Civil Rights Division will fully review the filing. As we do with all officer-involved shootings that result in death or serious injury, we will submit the case to a Grand Jury for their consideration. Until that happens, we can make no further comment on this matter.” The union representing San Antonio Police Department officers will not provide legal services to Brennand because he was still a probationary officer, the organization told in a statement Monday.
“New police recruits must complete a 1-year probationary period before becoming eligible for benefits provided by the union,” said Danny Diaz, president of the San Antonio Police Officers’ Association. “The San Antonio Police Officers’ Association is not representing Officer Brennand.”
Diaz said he understands why Brennand was fired but will not comment on the incident until the investigation is completed.
Attempts to reach Brennand were unsuccessful on Sunday.
Powers, the 17-year-old’s attorney, told the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office notified him on Friday prosecutors would not be moving forward with charges against his client. A spokesperson for the DA’s office referred CNN to the county’s online court record system, which indicates both charges have been dismissed and the case closed.
Powers told on Saturday Cantu is “literally fighting for his life every minute of the day as his body has endured a tremendous amount of trauma.”
“We need all the blessings we can receive at this time. We kindly ask for privacy beyond this update as this is a delicate moment in our lives, and we are focusing on one thing and that’s getting him home,” he added.
Teen suffered multiple gunshot wounds
Gonzales held a news conference Friday to address public concerns about the investigative process.
“Let me be clear that I believe that the large majority of members of the San Antonio police department do an excellent job at protecting our community and doing the right thing,” Gonzales said during the conference.
“We have other decisions we have to make down the road, which may include charging him with a crime,” he said.
The San Antonio Police Department said in a video statement the officer was handling an unrelated disturbance call at the McDonald’s Sunday night when he saw a car, he believed had evaded police the previous day and called for backup.
Before backup officers arrived, body camera video released by police shows the officer walk up to the driver’s side of the car, open the door, and order the driver out. The visibly startled teen, who was in the driver’s seat eating, put the car in reverse and started backing up.
Brennand then opened fire five times on the car, according to the video. As the driver shifted the vehicle to move forward, body camera video showed the officer opening fire an additional five times as the car drove away.
The SAPD said the teen was found a block away suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. A passenger in the car was uninjured, police said.
The SAPD said it is investigating the incident and will forward its findings to the Bexar County District Attorney, who said in a statement his office’s Civil Rights Division would be reviewing the police shooting and the charges against the teen.

Sacramento, California – On September 28, 2002 at 8:45 a.m., a man was shot and killed after advancing on a deputy with a machete outside a home in Sacramento County. About 8:40 a.m., deputies were called to a home in the 5400 block of Enrico Boulevard just north of Fruitridge Road for reports of a man, identified as 55-year-old Jaime Naranjo Bautista, who was having a mental health emergency. Bautista’s wife had called 911 saying that her husband was having a mental health emergency and had a machete in his hands. When a deputy arrived at the home, the wife was standing in the front yard and Bautista was on the front porch holding a machete. Body cam video shows Bautista then “advanced” towards his wife and the deputy. Sheriff’s officials said the deputy pushed the wife out of the path of Bautista and attempted to retreat while commanding him to drop the raised machete. Once the deputy was backed up to a fence and Bautista continued to advance and ignore commands, the deputy responded by shooting Bautista multiple times. Bautista was taken by ambulance to a hospital but died of his wounds.

Prince George's County, Riverdale Park, Maryland – On September 19, 2022, Bryan Coupal, 75, was shot and killed in his Riverdale Park home after officers were called to investigate the report of a man, who had access to guns, having an alleged mental health emergency. The officers spoke with Coupal in the doorway of his home for several minutes, before the 75-year-old man went into the house and inside a bedroom where he pointed a gun at police. Coupal was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Riverdale Park Police Chief Rosa Guixens said that before the September 19 call about Coupal, the department had received three other calls for service to the Oglethorpe Street home — all of which she said were unrelated to Coupal. Guixens said that Monday’s 911 call came from someone outside the home but did disclose who made it.

Bernalillo County, South Valley, New Mexico – On September 20th, 2022 Bernalillo County Sheriff's Deputies shot and killed 45-year-old Colby Atkins. At approximately 1:22pm, deputies attempted to make contact with Atkins in his car. Atkins was described as being unresponsive. A total of four deputies eventually arrive at the gas station and attempt to immobilize Atkin’s vehicle by blocking it in with their cars since these unresponsive individuals can be unpredictable. The dashcam video of the officers encountering Atkins was then played and showed the suspect fleeing the gas station shortly after being awoken. Deputies then proceed to chase Atkins as he runs a red light and drives into traffic, where he struck two civilian vehicles. Atkins eventually disables his own vehicle at 1:26pm after striking the two civilian vehicles and colliding into a curb. After his vehicle came to rest, Atkins was then in and out of the car, refusing to comply with officers. Deputies then fired bean bag rounds at the vehicle’s windows in an attempt to improve visibility, however, the windows were heavily tinted and did not break when shot. Atkins shouted at deputies for a period of time, then pointed what was described as a “black object” at a civilian’s vehicle, while adopting a “shooting platform”. It was at this point that deputies discharged their firearms, striking Atkins, and life-saving measures were performed at the scene. The black object was later discovered to be a flashlight. It was discovered in a search of Atkin’s vehicle that there were drugs, a series of stolen debit and credit cards and the car itself was stolen. Atkins himself has been released from federal prison in 2020 for a bank robbery and also had drug related charges, violation of probation and resisting and evading officers.

Police bodycam video fatal shooting Antonio Gonzales gun Austin Texas

Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only Austin Texas -- The Austin Police Department (APD) continues to investigate the officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday, September 23, 2022.
On Friday, September 23, 2022, at approximately 9:19 a.m., APD received a 9-1-1 call of a disturbance between a man and a woman regarding child custody in the 6100 block Fairway St.
Patrol officers were dispatched to the location of the call. The woman caller provided information that a man had a gun in his pocket and displayed it. It was initially indicated that children involved were being held hostage by the man and a potential hostage situation was occurring. The man was later identified as Mr. Antonio Gonzales.
Patrol officers arrived on scene in marked APD vehicles at 9:35 a.m. Upon the officer’s arrival, Mr. Gonzales did not have the children in his custody. Mr. Gonzales exited a vehicle and began walking around in the middle of the 1700 block of Brassie St., near the previous call location. He was armed with a handgun. He placed the gun against his head and then placed it in his waistband. Officers made verbal contact with Mr. Gonzales and attempted to de-escalate the situation by engaging with him and providing him with commands to lay on the ground. Officers on scene repeatedly told Mr. Gonzales they did not want him to get hurt and wanted to help. Mr. Gonzales did not comply with any of the several commands. During verbal contact with officers, Mr. Gonzales said he was going to kill himself several times. A crisis intervention officer arrived on scene at 9:43 am.
At 9:47 a.m., SWAT was called to the scene. While waiting for SWAT’s arrival, officers on scene continued to ask Mr. Gonzales to drop the gun. At 9:51 a.m., Mr. Gonzales said he would shoot himself if officers refused to shoot him. At 9:53 a.m., the first officer trained as a hostage negotiator arrived on scene and began communicating with Mr. Gonzales.
At 9:59 a.m., the first SWAT officer arrived on scene. This became an “open-air SWAT call,” which describes a situation where a subject is not inside a vehicle or a structure, and they are in an open-air environment threatening themselves and or others. Officers were concerned for the safety of Mr. Gonzales and the other people in the neighborhood, so they attempted to evacuate all of the homes in the immediate area. There were some residents inside the homes who decided not to evacuate, and instead chose to shelter in place.
For approximately two hours, APD crisis intervention officers and hostage negotiators attempted to de-escalate the situation by speaking to Mr. Gonzales through both a loudspeaker and a cell phone. The gun Mr. Gonzales placed in his waistband remained visible to the officers, and was easily accessible to Mr. Gonzales.
At 11:51 a.m., SWAT officers approached Mr. Gonzales with less-lethal means to attempt to take him into custody. SWAT Officers deployed two Department issued Tasers, and Department issued less-lethal munitions at Mr. Gonzales, but all means were ineffective. Mr. Gonzales then reached for his gun and attempted to pull it from his waistband. A SWAT officer fired his Department issued firearm towards Mr. Gonzales striking him. Mr. Gonzales then fell to the ground.
After officers confirmed that Mr. Gonzales was no longer a threat, they approached him to provide life-saving measures. At 11:59 a.m., Mr. Gonzales succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.
The woman who originally called 9-1-1 and the children were unharmed. Civilians and the officers on scene did not sustain physical injuries.
This incident was captured on body-worn camera and other video sources. The SWAT officer that discharged his duty firearm has six years of service; the officer that deployed the less-lethal munition has 7 years of service, and the two officers who deployed the Tasers have 20 and 15 years of service with the Austin Police Department, respectively.
Per APD protocol, the four officers have been placed on administrative leave. APD will conduct two concurrent investigations into this incident: a criminal investigation by the APD Special Investigations Unit in conjunction with the Travis County District Attorney's Office, and an administrative investigation conducted by the APD Internal Affairs Unit, with oversight from the Office of Police Oversight.

Phoenix, Arizona – On September 22, 2022 at around 7:30 p.m., Phoenix police received a 911 call from a home about a man with a gun. Police said witnesses told officers they heard gunshots as the man, later identified as 22-year-old Isaiah Ries Manning, was leaving the home. Officers were able to locate Manning near 25th Avenue and Greenway Road. Authorities said Manning was given commands to drop the gun but refused. Authorities said Manning walked into a convenience store near 24th Avenue and Greenway Road, and that's when the officer-involved shooting occurred. Manning was transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to police. He was released from the hospital and booked into Maricopa County Jail for weapons charges. Court documents indicate when officers searched Manning's home, they found an arsenal of weapons and ammunition in his bedroom. They also found a cord that appeared to be a "trip wire for smoke devices and other dangerous devices." Police said many of the guns were homemade and also included a silencer. They also confiscated a variety of extended-capacity rifle magazines and an AR-15-style firearm.
