GUN CLUBS AND CANADIAN FREEDOMS
Three years after I made this video the Liberal Party of Canada announced sweeping gun bans through an Order in Council. Gun Clubs across Canada proved me wrong and began to raise money for a legal defense against the Liberal / Bloc and NDP attack on basic Canadian freedoms (such as property rights). If they didn't organize our Rod & Gun Clubs were going to close due to loss of revenue. It still remains to be seen today if they will survive.

Argentinian Mules of 14th Army - Burma Nov 1944

Argentinian Mules of 14th Army
The Andes Mountains of Argentina are the longest continental mountain ranges in the world, forming a continuous highland along the western edge of South America. They are immense.
The Argentinians also have a lot of mules used regularly in mountainous terrain.
VIDEO / RUMBLE The Argentinian Mules of the 14th Army - Advance into Burma - November 1944 https://rumble.com/vv4jbx-14th-armys-advance-into-burma-november-1944.html
The 14th Army used Argentinian Mules with paneers during the advance into Burma. The Mules had been de-voiced to keep the pack train as quiet as possible. This was a humane surgical procedure performed by a veterinarian that removed the mule's voice box. The animals can otherwise me quite loud and that would draw them to the attention of Imperial Japanese Soldiers.
Sgt Major Kitson was ROYAL SIGNALS attached to the 26th Indian Division / 14th Army. He recounted a story where-in a Japanese Zero took a few strafing runs of their column. The men jumped for cover but the mules just stood there. No men were hit but several mules died. One of them was terribly injured but was still eating grass on the side of the trail. They quickly dispatched the poor animal and they were all very upset. This was war and everyone suffered both men and mules alike. Between the monsoons, mudslides, mountainous terrain, snakes, fungus and enemy soldiers the jungle was literally eating them alive. Most of them suffered greatly from dysentery, malaria and fungal infections.
The men became very attached to their mules. Every man stood to for mule grooming every day and it didn't matter if they were the Commanding Officer or the Private. The mules received more care and attention than the men did. They all had names and they were part of the team. When ever they lost a mule the men grieved.

Remington's American Wilderness Rifle
Shooting rifles in the middle of a blackfly hatch is a really good way to test your level of focus and concentration. In addition it just so happens that it's like me to shoot really well in the rain (no joke).
The price of factory ammunition results in making videos like this extremely expensive to make. If videos like this have value to you please consider supporting my channel on Patreon or buying some RC Swag.

Norweigan K98k 30-06
Not a serious video - just some plinking fun between 100 and 300 metres. Lessons learned:
1. Use high quality paint on your steel gongs and bring a can of paint with you when you go shooting;
2. Spend the time needed at the range shooting paper to evaluate 'point of aim' / 'point of impact' and ammo selection before shooting at steel on an austere range;
3. Use a spotter.... I don't have many shooting friends up here so there isn't much interest in this type of activity. Not to mention most people don't like snow and rain..... The pussification of Canada.
4. The snow was melting - corn snow - but still deep. There are safety concerns with lifting heavy objects and falling through the snow into air pockets / melt water. It's best to do this with the assistance of a friend. My twisted back bears witness to this.
Enjoy the video :)

The Phantom of Plzeň Lobzy
It was many moons ago but here is a little story that you might find interesting. In this video I discuss the CZ75 SP01 Phantom and a shooting competition in Plzeň Lobzy, Czech Republic; the birthplace of Pilsner beer. This is not so much a gun video as it is a gun story. I’d also like to recognize Warrant Officer 2nd Class Vratislav Louda for the inspiration to make this video.

No4 Enfield Bedding Styles
The people who built these rifles were 'actually' brilliant and I mean that genuinely. There are many styles and methods from the traditional three point contact bedding system, centre bedding with partial free float and specific L39 / RSAF Enforcer methods to study, test and measure. I wish I had more time and had included a few extra details.
LURSA the CNo4Mk1* The bedding may not look very nice and I would agree with you. I'm a shooter not a builder. Having said that I have effectively replicated the match bedding philosophy used by Canadian Army Regimental Rifle Teams. It effectively (but crudely) follows the DCRA competition bedding convention of the day and I ranked 4th place in CANADA with this rifle in my military classification (as a tyro). Again this is how the rifle was configured and issued to me when I was active service (now ret.). That makes me a super fortunate and humbled person because this rifle has been my teacher for many years now and we're both getting pretty long in the tooth.

MARLIN 1895 FULL HOUSE 45/70 LOADS
Is the ammunition you're using appropriate for the rifle's philosophy of use?
This video is dedicated to Jet Hunter. He doesn't sell cast bullets anymore but he was definitely one of the greats! Fantastic quality and PS he used Dragon bullet lube red. This lube is intended for high velocity and high pressure applications. I have never had lead fouling issues running his bullets.
Can you receive high recoil, run the rifle fast and deliver well aimed shots?
WHEN SECONDS COUNT
PS The Siamese Mauser conversions rebuilt in 45/70 should not be ignored and are strong enough for hot loads. I wouldn't run this load in a re-barreled No4 Lee Enfield action but I'm sure someone might challenge me on that.

RUGER AMERICAN RANCH - DEER RIFLE
I usually find myself hunting in dense woods and long range shots are the exception rather than the rule. I feel pretty confident with this rifle out to 250 metres +/- without too much fuss. Maybe this rifle is worth reloading for? I am curious to know how well that 123gr PPU bullet will hold together on a deer at close to medium range.
The rifle is super lightweight, easy to point and I'm not getting any younger. Speaking of which this would be a good first hunting rifle for a youth. The recoil is tame and the rifle can take a bit of punishment without feeling too bad about it.
For your consideration here are some shooting drills that I've put the rifle through and in most cases it was very poor quality ammunition. Both examples were shot at 100 metres.

The Yugoslav Hammer
This was never intended to be a conclusive representation of precision and accuracy for either rifle. Just a simple test in austere conditions. The uneven terrain, blackflies, heat, low grade ammo and my over-all performance should not be confused with either rifle's ability to shoot.
I am not making any general statements regarding accuracy however its is an interesting comparison based on limited information.
History is written through the filter of its authors. In your opinion if you hear un-factual information in this video please identify the time index, the subject and your information source(s).
I hope most of you find the video interesting and hope you are all doing well.

CFC2023 DIV1 M1 GARAND Riflechair
I haven't submitted this 2023 Cabin Fever Challenge submission yet but you might enjoy looking at a beautiful Italian M1 Garand getting some range time in winter conditions. Thankfully the weather had warmed from -20 to about -15 degrees celcius and there was very little wind. The snow beneath my feet had turned to corn and it was difficult to ground myself.
I am very fortunate to possess the Helsby Rifle. Maybe it's not too late to turn the tide here in Canada? Sport shooters and hunters are not the problem. The issue is gangs and criminal networks. Bill C21 needs to be dissolved in it's entirety. Nothing less is humane (let alone sane).

THE MATURE MAN'S RIFLE
Yesterday I filmed this video on my cell phone in between jobs while prepping the homestead for winter. I wasn't expecting to make the video and all of this was spontaneous but I've been thinking about the ZKK for a long time now and so the footage is somewhat organized.
We made the weekend a working holiday but as today is Thanksgiving I offer you my warmest wishes and hopes for the future. If you ever find yourself in a situation where a ZKK crosses your path then I hope this video helps you to make an informed decision.
Between 1964 and 1966 the Czech government migrated the production of long guns from Zbrojovka BRNO to Ceska Zbrojovka Uhersky Brod (CZUB). There are no CZUB marks on this rifle and so this may be one of the very last smoke poles to come out of the original Zbrojovka BRNO factory. This particular rifle was manufactured in 1966 and is one of the very first ZKK-600 rifles to come off the assembly line.
Rifle quality may vary by year. After the Soviets invaded Czechslovakia in 1968 it is my understanding that manufacture quality (especially finishing) of ZKK rifles were negatively impacted. If Ukraine has taught us anything its that the Soviets haven't changed and they are still running Russia.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Frank De Haas wrote in his book "Bolt Action Rifles" expanded 3rd edition on page 175 states the following when discussing the Brno ZKK action:
" The action is of all steel construction. The one piece receiver is a forging, very nicely machined on every surface. The 602 is probably the only forged magnum-length Mauser action made anywhere in the world today (at the time of writing), something that ought to make custom rifle builders sit up and take notice."
Later on page 179 when discussing the Metal Finish on the ZKK receiver he states:-
"The Brno ZKK receiver has an unusual finish. It seems to have been heavily sand blasted. The surface has a matte finish that is greyish in color, contrasting with the well-polished blued barrel and the bright bolt and extractor: the effect is quite pleasing."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At some point the manufacturing facility in Brno was renamed to Zbrojovka BRNO (BRNO Arms). The manufacturing facility in Uhersky Brod (CZUB) became a member of the Zbrojovka Brno Narodni Podnik in 1965. Firearms produced at Uhersky Brod were also marked "Brno". I think it's important to note that while these were still physically different manufacturing facilities, both were a part of the same National Enterprise. Throughout the Cold War CZUB manufactured a wide variety of sporting arms but they principally manufactured the ZKK (rifle), ZKM (rimfire), ZKP (pistol) and ZKR (revolver) series. CZUB also produced the VZ58 for the military.

POOR MAN'S RIFLE
For many people this is considered a poor man's rifle. I've been looked down at because I like them. I think nicely sporterized enfields are just common sense. This Parker Hale is a Heinze 51 parts gun was built to shoot in the mud and the bore and headspace is good - what's not to like?
