Diver Nikos Vardakas captured the final footage of the beloved orphaned monk seal Kostis just days before he was 'deliberately killed' with a spear gun off the coast of Alonissos in Greece. Nikos was diving with friends when the seal, who is known to seek out interaction with swimmers and snorkellers, came to join them underwater. Kostis, named after the fisherman who saved him from a storm in 2018, had been adopted by islanders as their unofficial mascot and a police investigation is underway to track down his killer.

Filmed at the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, Kansas, the feline can be seen staring down a visitor. The customer, who was riding a scooter to elevate her injured leg, rolls towards the window and places her hand on the glass. She looks straight back at the fierce animal glaring at her, when suddenly the lion pounces.

The footage, filmed in Guangzhou City in southern China, captured the curious French bulldog as it joyfully lapped at the cake's icing. But when the trusting dog realized what its owner had done, it fled. The footage, taken on Saturday, August 25, ends with the traumatized pup seeking solace in its bed.
