"Habanero" - A Chilihead's Tribute to Leonard Cohen
In the back of my mind, I was thinking that I'd like to do a tribute video for Leonard Cohen, since his passing. I was kicking around a Hot Pepper version of his iconic song since I found out that Cohen wrote about a hundred verses for the song with many different focuses and meanings. I figured...why not? At the same time, I have always wanted to do an animation in a video.
Why do I have to sell this video so hard? It's 2 F*****G minutes!!! You don't have 2 F*****G minutes to spare? PUH-Lease! The average cat video is 4 minutes and 30 seconds. And nobody even sings "Hallelujah" in them.
Look, you've already spent more than 2 minutes reading this. Just watch it already!
And then you can like, comment, subscribe, etc etc etc.

A Plant's Life in Time Lapse: From Seed to Fruit
This has been a video a long time in the planning stage. Years, I would say. I really wanted to record the entire life of a plant from the seed to a ripe fruit but couldn't imagine how it would be possible. In the end, I had an opportunity when I saw the stirring of a little Peruviano Arancio seedling and set up the camcorder to start snapping Time Lapse frames. I didn't really consider that that camcorder would be there for over 5 months, but there you have it.
The first monkey wrench was a second little seedling popping up. At first I thought it would be cute to record but came to my senses, realizing that two plants in that little pot would just mean that neither plant would do well. Not my first rodeo, as the saying goes. I actually recorded myself repotting the second seedling into its own pot and was including that as part of this video. I just didn't like it, though. It didn't fit the story I was trying to tell. I think most people would assume that I moved it out without having to watch me move it out. I wasn't looking to make this video longer.
I kept second guessing myself on the best way to record, which is why the angles and perspectives kept changing. I hope that doesn't detract from the flow of the video. I was painfully aware, as well, that the fluorescent lights flickered against the white wall. I didn't know how to deal with that. I am just a guy...not a professional guy.
Add to that, the plant slowly tipping to the left until, to my horror one day when I popped in to see how things were going, that the plant was lying flat on the table. You can see the plant slowly falling. Suddenly, it's staked. And I tried to figure out which flower would become a pepper, but I was wrong more times than I show. You see a flower or two just "disappear". Remember that the frames were being shot once every 80 seconds. Lots of time for a flower to fall off and just "be gone" in the video. Then I saw a tiny pod that looked promising and the ending of the video was in view.
Five months, from April 4th until today, September 12th. Every 99 hours the camcorder would stop recording and I had to start it going again, but this was my dream. I hope you enjoy watching it. Your enjoyment in watching this video is really the reason that I dedicated myself this Summer to making it.

SAK59 Meets The Reaper
Thanks to my friend, Jay (Crazy Cunner) from one Province over...I found myself in possession of 3 Carolina Reapers. I don't (as a rule) make videos of myself eating peppers, like others do, but I decided to take the opportunity to test my mettle. Yes, I regretted it...almost immediately, but I'm not sorry now. I highly recommend, Jay's YouTube Channel. Here's a link to it: https://www.youtube.com/user/CrazyCunner.
During the video, I mentioned a video I thought was so funny. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeCW6qYdcus
As far as the Carolina Reaper goes...it's hot. It is very, very hot. It is like lava.
But, I followed a recipe of Tmudder's -- Here's his channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/tmudder The recipe, which I share with you at the start of this video, coated my stomach so well that I didn't even notice the pepper. Until about 2:30 in the morning. But that's another story I don't want to discuss. It is the following night and I can finally say that I'm back to normal.
Thank you Jay. Thank you Todd. And thank you all who actually watch this over-long video. I hope you like it. If you do, please subscribe. I always appreciate that.
Thanks.
