Buskers don’t care about YouTube views, we busk to make money. Being told “I watch your videos!” once every three hours sets off my ‘Whoopee shit’ inner monologue, and doesn't pay my rent. Why not watch me on the street for a couple minutes, where I actually am, putting on a LIVE performance, instead of running past while you talk about #$%#! Youtube. For a lot of people, YouTube is more real than actually seeing me live. It’s hilarious. It’s disturbing. We put up with thieves, drunks, addicts, aggressive beggars, the weather, the noise, angry and burned out pedestrians, to make money to live. If everyone just said "Sounds great!" or "I watch you on youtube!" and kept walking, we'd all die of starvation. BUSKERS don’t get paid by the city to stand there. Let me make it clear: when I put up a video and it gets 5000 views (never happens), I make five cents. My videos get 500 views so that’s 0.5 cents. No one makes money off YouTube unless they have sponsors that pay them to whore their useless junk. You want to show a busker appreciation? Leave a tip. I’ll take a crabby old man shoving a $5 into my hand (real guy) while rushing past and not saying a word, than YouTube views any day of the week. With $5 I can buy at least 15 bananas. Recorded Oct 26/23. I wrote this in under 30 minutes. I jammed for 90 minutes.I was ON POINT. I think this was my favorite jam of the year. Totally in the zone, got the tones I wanted, which made it very easy for me to play. I was working in fresh ideas in every bar. The most difficult thing in improv is trying not to repeat yourself, falling back on stock memory, as it is very easy to rely on ideas and phrases you have used before. The joy for me is to discover new phrases or melodies that I have not done before. It's a total HIGH when you hit this point. I listened back to it and I was like "Wow, where did that come from?" Once you let go and engage in full zen of living in the moment, the music flows. This is the advantage of a home studio. No noise, no distractions. I don't usually do videos on pedals. It's more of a fan request thing. Since my last one was 3 years ago, here's an update on what's new and what's still on the board after my first pedal bought in 2005. I talk about all the pedals, then do a jam, showing some basic operations. It takes about one month of busking money for me to buy one guitar pedal, so most of my summer money goes right back into guitar equipment and upkeep. This was my last day busking this year on Sept 7/2023 Lots of female attention during this jam. (see the full 2 hour jam by getting a youtube membership) Talked to at least 3 women who stopped to watch or tell me how they loved it. I had done 50 street gigs this year at 5 hours each day and was very close to complete burnout, physically and mentally. I already had various physical problems (back issues, facial tremors, ear buzzing, hand muscle damage) that required chiropractic care, and the constant apathy and stress on the street took its toll on me mentally, caused depression, and made my body shut down. Luckily, my first vacation in 4 years took place 3 days after this jam and I got some seriously needed R and R for a week, taking a cruise to Alaska. Then I got really sick after the trip, and I'm still trying to get rid of a cold 2 weeks later. This extended sickness I attribute to overdoing it this summer. I was like a machine: recording and writing new backing tracks every day, then hitting the dirty streets for 5 hours a day of intense jamming. June 22/23 was the date I played the greatest slow blues of my life. I do blues all the time, but today was truly special as I got in the zone and stayed in the zone for 50 minutes straight.
