NT Framework 27 Impeccability Applied - Part 2
SBC family,
Tomorrow we are going to use the same notes we used last week. I've attached them again for reference. The reason is we didn't finish, and the point on the outline under IV. B. is difficult to understand, but worth thinking through for practical Christian living. There is a passage that teaches that those born of God do not sin, and this, of course, is a difficult statement. There have been attempts to interpret this as continually or habitually sin to alleviate the pressure, but this is problematic because there is another verse in the same letter that says if we say we don't have continual or habitual sin then we are liars and the truth is not in us.
How can both of these statements be true? There are two other solutions that are much better, and the continual or habitual interpretation is all but dead in academic circles, though it still exists on a popular level. These are people who say that if you are really a believer you will not continue in sin. Even on a basic level, what would something like that mean? Do you sin everyday? Do you sin every other day? Isn't that continuing in sin? At any rate, we will work with this and show how the doctrine of Christ's impeccability (not able to sin) is a reality for us when certain conditions are met. Yes, we are not able to sin when we are doing something. The problem is we don't always do this. If we did there would be a doctrine of sinless perfection, but as it is, if we say we have no sin, we are liars and the truth is not in us.
I hope this has whet your appetite to know more.
Grace to you,
Jeremy

NT Framework 26 Impeccability and possibly Ezek 38-39 The Battle of Gog
Hello SBC Family,
If Bill is unable to travel from CdA to Spokane I will be teaching on Ezek 38-39. I think he will be coming, but I've prepared in advance.
There's a lot going on in Israel. The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, told Israel that they don't have months to destroy Hamas, but weeks, and that they have to change their tactics AND not destroy Gazan infrastructure ike sewage plants, electrical plants, and medical facilities, AND that they have to not kill civilians by building them safe zones. In other words, destroy Hamas, a terrorist organization that is a "nation of martyrs" in less time and less damage than what you did previously or else the world is going to turn against you, including the United States of America. That's right, America is very determined to turn against Israel. This is the scariest moment I've ever seen in America's "diplomacy". They want to put the Palestinian Authority back in power over Gaza when this is over. The Palestinian Authority finances, trains, and educates children in hatred of Israel. They don't even recognize Israel's right to existence. The blindness of Blinken and the US Administraion is crazy. Yet, almost wilder than this is Arab American Democrats are angry over how determined the Biden administration is toward the destruction of Hamas (which could never happen given America's stringent requirements). Nuts.
Today's wars are fought very different than wars before WWII. Then the goal was to destroy evil. Now it is to save the civilian, make sure the enemy knows where you are going to attack so they can vacate the area beforehand, and don't mess up any buildings or crucial infrastructure, and when you get done rebuild their whole world with swimming pools and condos. This is an upside down world. People are very confused in their thinking. I'm glad Christ is coming back to fix it.
63:1 Who is this who comes from Edom,
dressed in bright red, coming from Bozrah?
Who is this one wearing royal attire,
who marches confidently because of his great strength?
“It is I, the one who announces vindication,
and who is able to deliver!”
63:2 Why are your clothes red?
Why do you look like someone who has stomped on grapes in a vat?
63:3 “I have stomped grapes in the winepress all by myself;
no one from the nations joined me.
I stomped on them in my anger;
I trampled them down in my rage.
Their juice splashed on my garments,
and stained all my clothes.
63:4 For I looked forward to the day of vengeance,
and then payback time arrived.
63:5 I looked, but there was no one to help;
I was shocked because there was no one offering support.
So my right arm accomplished deliverance;
my raging anger drove me on.
63:6 I trampled nations in my anger,
I made them drunk in my rage,
I splashed their blood on the ground.”
See the attached for the handout on Impeccability. It is the application, and it is needed for every day life and how to understand how to live the Christian life and what is happening. How His impeccability is expressed through us when we "abide" in Him.
Grace to you,
Jeremy

NT Framework 25, Doctrine of Impeccability
SBC Family,
I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
Hamas has agreed to release 50 Israeli civilians in exchange for 150 so-called Palestinians. These 150 people are guilty of crimes against Jews. The 50 Israeli civilians are not guilty of any crimes against so-called Palestinians. Why isn't the world demanding that Hamas release all innocent Israeli civilians? Why are they instead demanding that Israel provide humanitarian relief for the people in Gaza? The world is so upside down.
Tomorrow we'll teach the doctrine of impeccability. This doctrine has to do with the knotty problem of how Christ could be tempted to sin since He is God who cannot be tempted to sin. There will be application to this doctrine as well. This is not just theory or heady material. It's practical as you will see.
To keep everything straight, just remember that the proper formulation of the hypostatic union is absolutely critical to getting the kenosis correct, and only then does the impeccability of Christ falls in its proper place. In other words, if you get the hypostatic union wrong, you get everything else wrong. It is foundational to all Christology.
To me it's amazing that there are so many Christians who say they love Jesus but they don't know these things about Jesus. It makes me love Jesus more because I know who He is (in part), and knowing the depths of who He is and what He was doing in His life on earth makes me appreciate and contemplate Him more than I ever imagined. Most of the church has truly abandoned the real Jesus for a caricature and a bracelet WWJD. As you'll see tomorrow, most of the world, including Christians, would not accept Jesus if He came today. They certainly don't Do what Jesus Would Do. He did not fit the social standards of our society and He would be considered a rude, arrogant, problem-maker.
See the attached handout.
Grace to you,
Jeremy

NT Framework 24 Kenosis Applied
SBC Family,
Today we'll look at the doctrine of kenosis applied. Most of the church has never heard these doctrines because they want to preach something relevant. However, this is the reason the church has become irrelevant. It's relevance is found only when the deep categories of Scripture are thought about. The doctrine of kenosis beckons us to think deeply about the person of Christ in hypostasis and how He lived on earth, which provides the model for how we are to live. If we never think through His subordination to the Father as the Creator and creature in one person, we'll forever remain on the surface of the issues and never have the energy to to live successful Christian lives.
There's no way to just coast through the Christian life.
See the attached handout, and hopefully see you today.
Grace to you,
Jeremy

1 Corinthians 02 Introduction 1:1-9
SBC Family,
Tonight we will finish up the Introduction and Background of the book by looking at some of the key verses, the key word, and the key idea. Hopefully these famous verses will be familiar to you, and if not, they will motivate you to want to learn 1 Corinthians.
Then we will go into the Introduction in 1:1-9. Like most of Paul's introductions and salutations, he gives in seed form some of the ideas that he will develop in the letter. In other words, the uniquenesses here are a foreshadowing of what is in the book. There are three of these in the introduction to the Corinthians, so watch for them. They set you up for where Paul is going in the letter.
Check out the handout.
I hope to see you tonight,
Jeremy

NT Framework 23 Doctrine of Kenosis
SBC Family,
Don't forget that tonight Daylight Savings ends, and we Fall back one hour. So, tonight you get one extra hour of sleep. Some have told me that means I get one extra hour to teach. 😂 I won't do that to you, but no excuses for missing our gathering. 🤣
The situation in Israel and Gaza is coming to a crossroads. International pressure, even from America, is to the effect that a two state solution needs to be the end result of this war. However, they already have Iran's proxy army Hezbollah on their northern border in Lebanon, Fatah in the West Bank and Jordan. Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. What is a new state in Gaza going to do other than legitimize a terrorist state? Israel now realizes that they can't live under the shadow of terrorists on all their borders. For them to have peace they have to eliminate all terrorist threats on all their borders. I can't see how any nation on earth will go along with that, including America. What could happen? A world leader could arise who would guarantee Israel's security. Why would Israel accept him? Because they couldn't stop the most recent attack. They didn't even know about it. This is a very interesting development and far more significant than Iran in 2006 which raised a lot of prophetic discussion.
Tomorrow we will get into a most amazing doctrine; the Kenosis. This doctrine is shockingly practical. It's strange that hardly one in 100 Christians has ever even heard of it, or, if they have, they don't know what it means or why it's important.
I hope we have fun. If you apply yourself you will have a renewed appreciation for Jesus Christ.
Communion tomorrow, prepare to remember by thinking through passages like Ps 22, Isa 53, the end of all four Gospels and the meaning of Christ's death.
See attached handout.
Grace to you,
Jeremy

1 Corinthians 01, Background and Introduction
SBC Family,
Last week we went into Acts 19 where Paul was at Ephesus. This is where he wrote 1 Corinthians from. At the time he was having great success in Ephesus and all Asia heard the word of the Lord. Paul's teaching was so influential it was impacting the entire economy of Ephesus! At the same time, the church in Corinth was not doing so well. They lived in a very diverse culture that was deeply alluring. Idolatry, food, music, entertainment, sports, libertarianism, prostitution, fornication, asceticism, you name it, they had it, and the Corinthians were struggling to get out of it.
Tonight we'll get into this background of Corinth and why Paul struggled with this church more than any other. I'll show you some neat things that will be like keys to unlock Corinthians.
See the attached handout.
Grace to you,
Jeremy

NT Framework 22: The Life of the King
SBC Family,
Tomorrow we are moving from the Birth of the King to the Life of the King. These are quick glimpses, so we can look at the event, the responses to the event, and then the doctrines. Jesus was not liked by the establishment. But the problem wasn't Jesus, the problem was the establishment. We want to look at how Jesus did things that socially disturbed the Pharisees, how He interpreted Moses and the Prophets differently than the Pharisees, and how He spoke on His own self-authenticating authority. None of these things set well with the Pharisees, but it was not His fault. They were not ready to receive their King. They didn't even recognize Him. It is one of the most colossal failures in the history of the world. I don't think many in Christianity would recognize Him if He came again today, so the church hasn't done any better. Jesus is too caricatured in our day to even preach Him clearly in most cases. His responses, His actions, are just too out of the box for people. They have a WWJD mentality in their vacuous religion. I wish people would actually read the Bible without being biased by their upbringing and religious indoctrination. They would come away with a very different view.
See the handout, and see you tomorrow!
Much love,
Jeremy

Acts 24 2nd Missionary Journey 19.1-20 and 1 Corinthians Background
SBC Family,
There are a couple of attachments. We're going to start in Acts 19 when Paul makes his first trip to Ephesus during his second missionary journey. It was while Paul was in Ephesus that he wrote 1 Corinthians, so we want to see what was going on at Ephesus when he wrote. If we have time we'll start into the background for 1 Corinthians.
Corinth was the San Francisco of the ancient world. It had every aspect of culture; art, entertainment, music, philosophy, religion, politics, sports, commerce, etc...The believers here struggle because they grew up in this very pagan culture and trying to break from it was a huge struggle. When you become a Christian you don't automatically unload all your pagan thinking patterns. It takes time to do that. The believers at Corinth had so many pagan ideas going on it's literally 'crazy'! Some of them were ascetics and shunned sex within marriage, others were into dualism as a tool to justify fornication, others were into liberation movements like feminism, and some were into sports rivalry type of antics, while others were into social hierarchies. It's remarkable how much this book covers, and how misunderstood a lot of it is because of failure to understand the background culture at Corinth. Frankly, it's a lot like American culture. This book should be fun and it's certainly interesting.
Grace to you,
Jeremy

NT Framework 21 Doctrine of Trinity
Good afternoon SBC Family Near and Far,
Tomorrow we will actually look at the doctrine of Trinity. We will do it under five propositions. When you come to the person of God, we are talking about someone who is ultimately incomprehensible, yet He is also knowable. People have a tendency to come to the Trinity and say something like, "Well, it's incomprehensible, so don't even bother trying." That attitude is at the core of why the church is so messed up today. They fail to take notice of what God says we can know about Him and exhaust that information. He gave it to us to know! It's more applicable than most people realize. Very practical as you have seen in the daily problems we have that involve the One and the Many.
See you tomorrow!

Acts 23 The Second Missionary Journey Corinth, the Third Missionary Journey Ephesus Acts 18:1-19:20
SBC Family Near and Far,
I will give an Israel update tonight.
Now that we've finished 1 and 2 Thessalonians, we will go back to Acts 18 and pick up at Corinth where Paul wrote those letters from. This will provide the background for Paul's tumultuous relationship with the 'carnal Corinthians'. He was there for a year and a half, then returned to Antioch in Syria, and after a little while set out on his third missionary journey where he ended up in Ephesus for three years. While there he wrote several letters to the Corinthians. In all he actually writes four letters to them. The first is known as the previous letter, the second is 1 Corinthians, the third is the severe letter, and the fourth is 2 Corinthians. Only two of these letters were inspired and therefore captured in the canon of Scripture. It is going to be an interesting journey with the Corinthians. The place was the San Francisco of the ancient world. Get ready for the ride of your life. There are several keys from the culture of Corinth that are necessary to interpret this book correctly. So, after we finish Acts 18:1-19:20, we will go to 1 Corinthians. Since it's his third missionary journey, he wrote three books; 1 and 2 Corinthians, and Romans. These are the three longest books that Paul wrote. Evidently he had a lot to say.
I look forward to seeing you tonight. Acts is a fun narrative and super-interesting.
See the attachment. I don't think we will get through all this!
Grace to you,
Jeremy
