Ep 92 Col 1 13-20 - The Jesus Believers Worship - The repentance challenge
My mom actually asked that I preach this passage today. I guess I don't talk about Jesus enough. But it's a more theological type sermon about the character and nature of Jesus. One might listen trying to find flaws or points of disagreement; or one might try to find something which inspires.
Hopefully, you will find something to start your week.

Ep 91 1Cor 10 12-13 Escaping Temptation and tests - Choice and Consequences
Temptation is a kind of test and though life is full of temptation, the Lord says that he also provides a way of escape.
This week we will be examining the nature of the temptations or tests that we encounter and what that way of escape is.

Ep 90 Gal 5 16-18 As the Spirit Leads - Lawlessness vs Lawful
"As the Spirit Leads" is an impressive expression in the church world. But how does one know if one actually is following the Spirit? This is especially the case when people believe that "not being under the law" implies lawlessness.
This is my subjective take living as the Spirit Leads.

Ep 89 Mt 23 27-28 Beautiful Inside and Out - Beauty and Virtue Signaling
A sermon about Beauty and Virtue Signaling. Virtue signaling is hypocrisy and it is basicallly a lot of fakery.
So, what is beauty, subjectively speaking, and where can we find, achieve or perceive it?
Hopefully this un-sermon will inspire you as it did me when I was writing it.
Blessings.

Ep 88 1 Tim 4 1-5 Believers who receives all with Thanksgiving - Thanksgiving Sunday
The Apostle Paul writes to Timothy that he should receive EVERYTHING with thanks. Given all of the bad that is in the world, this is a difficult task, but not impossible with faith. How does one be thankful for even the subjective bad things in life?
This is my take...
Blessings and Peace.

Ep 87 1Tim 2 1-4 Praying for the King – Not Statism
Paul wrote that believers should pray for the "King." Who is a king and for what should we pray for them? I have a feeling that we are not praying for victory in the next election.
Keep in mind that we are all individuals, and we are rulers of our own lives. The prayer for the king should be the prayer for ourselves. And finally, where does Jesus fit in all this?
Peace.

Ep 86 Luke 12 35-40 Preparing and Waiting - Millennialism
Perhaps because of the conflict brewing in Israel/Gaza, people are once again talking about the return of Jesus Christ. How does one prepare and wait for the return of Christ? Are the events we are witnessing new and never seen before? Even if they were, what do we do?
Here is an Amillennialist's take on the matter.

Ep 85 Rom 12 17-21 God who repays our Enemies - Vengeance
Revenge, Vengeance, avenging someone, these are popular concepts, and many people seek the opportunity to express their desire for revenge. But, of course, God says that vengeance is his. How do we submit to that as children of the light? Unfortunately, this topic is harder than should be to teach and discuss.
Peace to you and all of us.

Ep 83 Luke 14 25-33 Asking for Peace
Biden's warning to the world not to interfere with the activities of the USA in the middle east made me think of this passage. As I said in the recording... that kind of inspiration does not necessarily dictate how I interpret the passage. The passage is longer than what I normally would use... and it seems to have a bump in the flow. But that "bump" might be an indication that there's something more we can learn from this well known and often preached passage.
Hope you enjoy.

Ep 84 1Cor 9 19-23 All things to all men method of evangelism
I've heard some wild interpretations of this passage over the years, but how does one become all things to all people? There's a lot of diversity out there, so how does one reach and identify with everyone?
It's not that complicated as it turns out, and one does not have to "get drunk to share the gospel with heavy drinkers," as some people I knew used to always say.
Peace to us all in these times of confusion.

Ep 82 Romans 12 3-5 – Seeing oneself correctly – and then there is Narcissism
One way of not seeing oneself correctly is by being a Narcissist. What is it and what is the effect for believers, the church, and society?
How does one know one is a narcissist, what should one do instead of being self-absorbed?
What is the payoff (blessing)?

Ep 81 Luke 6 27-36 Love your enemy - De-Escalation
In this episode I tackle a passage I have avoided for over 20 years. The passage that seems to advocate Pacifism. But is it pacifism or perhaps it is de-escalation?
I also examine the concept of Love, again... and how Love enables and empowers us to love our enemies.
Hope you enjoy.

Ep 80 The Eternal Word 1Peter 1 24-25
Today I preached on 1 Peter 1:24-25. Talk about the temporary vs the eternal and the effects on our everyday lives. While it is a challenge to live a life by faith with the eternal word... it is not without blessing.

Ep 79 Honest Scales and Inflation – Leviticus 19 v35
A little change in direction because of my new life schedule. I'm going to be making episodes based on my Sunday preaching. Take it or leave it, I guess. It's all I have time for now. Plus, it is utterly depressing going through twitter/X to find a topic to discuss. I must take a break.
So, Leviticus 19:35-37 is our focus for this episode, "Honest Scales."
Yes, we are going to talk about inflation but with a Jesus Phreak Twist.

Ep 78 Ideas have no color – Ideas are just good or bad
People have been and continue to try to colorize ideas. That is, certain people want to associate a color with certain ideas in order to cancel or elevate those ideas. This approach fails and instead leads to other undesirable outcomes.
Ideas are just good or bad depending on the context and subjectivity. People should be free to advocate for, choose, and ignore the ideas according to their preferences. This is because responsibility always lay with the individual who makes the choice.

Ep 77 Blue eyes Brown eyes Exp and Authoritarianism
Jane Elliott divided her third-grade class by eye color to teach them about racism after the assassination of Martin Luther King. I used to show a video of her experiment to the students in my race class until I discovered the ideas of the Free Market. It turns out, her experiment tells us more about the dynamics of power and its enforcement than about race.

Ep 76 The Problem of Higher Education - An Insider Perspective
After teaching middle school for a week, I thought I would share my thoughts on the decline of so-called higher education. Decline not only in enrollment numbers, but also in the quality of the education particularly in the Liberal Arts or the Humanities.
If we return to the standard of teaching "value," then students may once again entertain the idea of majoring or studying in the Humanities.
Nevertheless, there is a collapse coming, in the economy but also the university.

Ep 75 Racialization in the Bible
Although many people will use a concordance to try to find references to race in scripture, it's not really necessary because there are racializations galore in the Bible. I even forgot to talk about a few of them. People may want to discuss how to handle discrimination through scripture, but often people are curious about racialization when it comes to relationships and marriage.

Ep 74 First year teaching is rough - School Choice and the Future of Schools
First year teaching at university was time intensive, but middle school teaching is insanely time consuming. With 6+ preps per night, I am going to a "when I have time" format.
I touch on the issue of choice when it comes to certain sensitive issues...
School choice is the future, especially sense the public school system in big cities are failing.
