Stoicism is an ancient Greek school of philosophy founded at Athens by Zeno of Citium. The reason why groups such as fraternal orders didn't allow or excluded certain people into their ranks was to protect their hard earned wealth and assets from weak minded men who would have the potential to snitch or misgovern the communal prosperity the group worked hard for.
