Community says NO to Christchurch City Council's policy of segregation
Wednesday 22 December 2021
Outside the Christchurch City Council
The Christchurch City Council has mandated segregation in our community. Many ratepayers and children are now excluded from council swimming pools and libraries.
Our community has been through too many tragedies in recent years. And now our council is supporting segregation and discrimination.
But it doesn’t have to be like this.
We call for an inclusive approach with equal access for all.
Don't let our council divide our community!

For those interested in the significance of using Silent Night as the soundtrack for this Vigil, this was due to its role in the Christmas truce of 1914. On Christmas Eve a German Officer and sometime member of the Berlin Opera, Walter Kirchhoff, sang the carol in both German and English and is credited with encouraging the exchange of songs, greetings and gifts between the opposing soldiers.
