Why So Many Abrams Tanks Have Been Destroyed in Ukraine
The Abrams is one of the world's best tanks, but Ukraine managed to lose three of them in their first week on the battlefield in the Russia Ukraine war - and even more have been destroyed since then. Russia has been taking out these 4.3million dollar war machines with cheap 'piranha' drones laden with explosives. But is that enough to stop these US-supplied weapons? And how are the armies of the future going to protect their expensive military hardware from the new threat of drone warfare?

Biden Allows Ukraine To Strike Some Targets In Russia With US Weapons
US President Joe Biden has given Ukraine permission to use American-supplied weapons to strike targets in Russia, but only near the Kharkiv region, US officials have said.
One official said his team had been directed to ensure Ukraine was able to use US weapons for "counter-fire purposes" to "hit back at Russian forces hitting them or preparing to hit them".
Russian forces have made gains in the north-eastern Kharkiv region in recent weeks after a surprise offensive in the area, close to the border with Russia.
European leaders and the UK had called for restrictions on the use of such weapons to be relaxed, despite concerns that such a development could further escalate the conflict.
President Vladimir Putin warned that attacks by Ukraine on Russia with Western missiles risked triggering a wider war. 30 May 2024

Israeli Rafah Attack Strategy Explained
This is Rafah, situated near the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.
To help you understand the basic IDF strategy, let's divide Gaza into 5 parts.
We start with North Gaza, then move on to Gaza,
followed by Deir Al Balah, Khan Younis, and finally Rafah and this crossing towards Egypt.
And a quick recap: since Hamas attack on October 7, the IDF has invaded Gaza from almost all sides, by land, sea, and air.
Firstly, invading Gaza from the North, then progressing to Central Gaza, while instructing Gazans to move to the South.

Meet The Peaky Blinders Drone Squad Defending Kharkiv
In the village of Lyptsi, Ukrainian forces appear to have blunted Russia’s surprise offensive.
A few weeks ago, they were rapidly advancing towards Kharkiv - but with the help of reinforcements, Ukraine is slowly stemming the tide.
One Ukrainian unit on the frontline call themselves the Peaky Blinders, after the cult TV series.
Oleksandr, their leader, says at the outbreak of the war they turned up to guard their streets with shotguns, wearing civilian clothing - like a scene from the hit show.
The group uses cheap, mass-produced small drones to take out tanks, target groups of infantry or individual soldiers.

Iranian President And Foreign Minister Feared Dead In Helicopter Crash
A huge search operation is underway in Iran after a helicopter carrying the country’s President Ebrahim Raisi crashed in the mountainous north-west of the country in heavy fog. Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian was also on the aircraft.
The men had been visiting Iran’s remote mountain border region with Azerbaijan to inaugurate a new dam project. Two other helicopters in the convoy made the journey safely.
Rescue teams are attempting to locate the helicopter but are being hampered by very poor weather. Iran’s army is reported to have ordered that all resources needed be sent to the search area. The Red Crescent is helping with the search operation. Drones and rescue dogs are being used in the attempt to locate the helicopter. Countries in the region including Turkey have offered assistance with the search.
Mass prayers are being said in mosques in Iran. Iran’s state-run television first announced news of what they described as a “hard-landing”. The country’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei delivered a message of calm, saying he hoped that God would return the President to the people. He told Iranians that there would be no disruption to the running of the country.
President Raisi has been a key and controversial figure in Iran for many decades, regarded as a hardliner within the Islamic Republic’s leadership. The accident comes at a time of high tension in the Middle East, with the war in Gaza and fears that the conflict could widen.
Israel and the United States have accused Iran of backing militant groups including Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen. Recently Iran fired hundreds of missiles at Israel. An airstrike on a military base in Iran was widely seen as Israel's response to that attack.
Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian is a well-known figure on the international stage, where he has been involved in talks and negotiations about Iran's nuclear programme.
