How to Stop Bad Habits and Reinforce Good Habits to Change Your Life
So why is it so hard to form good new habits and why is it so hard to break old ones?
Well, one of the reasons is that bad habits give you immediate positive reinforcement. You get what you were looking for, you feel relief or whatever it is that that habit is giving you and they have a delayed negative outcome, and a good example would be smoking.
Well with bad habits. I can tell you one of the reasons why they're so hard to break is that you will have an immediate positive impact from a bad habit, from doing a bad habit, and you have a delayed negative outcome from that bad habit. So if you're a smoker, that cigarette is going to give you instant satisfaction. It's going to give you relief and it's not going to say give you lung cancer immediately. You're not going to see the negative effects.
Now, good habits. On the other hand, they have an immediate, almost negative impact and a delayed positive outcome. So say for instance, working out, working out is hard. You might enjoy it. Hopefully, you do enjoy it, but it is hard work, and you are not going to go from having a big old belly to six pack abs in one exercise so you don't see it right away.
And then if you're trying to create a new good habit, say working out, there is no negative impact of skipping a workout. It's not like you are in shape and you decide, you know what? I'm just going to skip today's workout and you instantly get fat. It doesn't happen that way. So these are things that make habits and forming good ones in breaking bad ones. So hard to do.
So there are three things you need to do if you want to break old habits and put new habits in their place, and the first thing is to come up with a plan. If you don't have a plan, you're not going to get anywhere that you want to go. You need to plan for the hard times because there's going to be times when you don't feel like working out or you do feel like having a cigarette. Whatever it is, you need to plan for that and what you're going to do in those situations.
And number two is creating an environment that allows you to do those good habits or not do the bad habits that you don't want to do. So if it's a good habit like working out, it would mean putting your gym clothes at the foot of your bed. So as soon as you wake up in the morning, you can put on your gym clothes and go work out, or on the other hand, if you're trying to stop smoking will get rid of all the ashtrays in your house and throw them away and it's going to make it harder. So just changing your environment makes habits drastically easier to do.
The last thing is just positive reinforcement. You need to come up with ways to give yourself some type of positive reinforcement. When you do a good habit, so say it's working out. If you work out for a week straight, five days a week, you give yourself a reward of maybe a jelly donut. I don't know, whatever it is that that you enjoy doing, something that you enjoy, something that you'll remember is associated with doing that positive habit that you want to do. It's going to make instilling those habits and making them stick a lot easier.
Listen, we are what we repeatedly do. We are creatures of habit. Change your habits, and you will change your life.

In this video, I’m going to be covering the first step in providing SMART Emergency Medicine - Making sure the scene is safe.
I came up with SMART emergency medicine, which stands for Scene safe, Massive bleeding, Airway, Reassess, and then Transport.
SMART is a simple, effective system to respond to any emergency medical situation before medical personal arrive, or the victim can be brought to a hospital.
If you haven’t watched the overview video, make sure you watch that before continuing so you can see how all these pieces fit together to provide a framework for protecting yourself and those you love … or, even those you just don’t want to bleed to death.
If you come up to an emergency medical situation, you may or may not know what happened to cause the injuries, but obviously, you don't want yourself or others to become casualties as well, so you need to check and make sure the scene is safe.
Especially in a gunfight or other shooting situations. We have a saying in the SEAL Teams - The best medicine is fire superiority!
Sometimes the best medicine that you can give is stopping the person who is putting holes in either you or the ones you love; so you may need to return fire or get to a safe place before you can even start treating the patient.
Whatever the situation, if you didn’t see it happen, take the time to look around and see what might have caused the injuries.
Look for other people injured, look and listen for gunfire, downed power lines, fallen items like a ladder or rocks, or rabid guinea pigs - anything that could hurt you or others before you can help the patient.

now when you show up at the scene with your new LA Police Gear First Aid Kit, and you’ve practiced using all the supplies in it - you STILL need to make sure the scene is safe.
And one thing I learned in 30 years as a combat medic, in any emergency situation, assume no one around you knows what to do, and assume - that they will freeze.
I’ve seen it too many times to count. It’s your job to take control. Tell someone to call 911 or to go get help. Don’t make a general request to the group.
Make eye contact with someone (..see if there is anyone awake insidE), and tell them exactly what to do.
“You in the blue shirt! Call 911!” And make sure they acknowledge you.
Okay, make sure you practice the lesson you just learned. In this case, situational awareness. Do walkthroughs with your family and friends because just watching this video won’t save anyone’s life.

Hi, I'm Chris Sajnog. Call me a Coach, an Instructor or a Guru...I'm Not a Shooter
I'm not a shooter; I'm not a firearms instructor. What I am is a trainer. There's a lot of comments that I see online with my videos, and my training and people are always asking why are there no videos of this guy shooting and almost calling me out like if this guy can't shoot, he can't teach me anything, but that's exactly what I do. That is what I'm good at. I'm a trainer.
What I do, what my skill is, is teaching others to be the best that they can be at whatever skill that they want to get good at. So to get better at my skill, at what I do, what I need to teach others, a trainer - to get better at that, that is what I practice. That is what I do. That is what I study day and night.
My life is teaching others. It's not shooting. It used to be shooting, but it's not now. Now it's peak performance. It is getting people to where they want to go as fast as possible.
Listen, it does not bother me if people say they're a better shooter than me or think they can shoot better than me or want to have some type of shooting competition with me. In fact, if you're one of my students, I am hoping and praying and doing everything I can to make sure that you do shoot better than me. That is my goal in life is making people better than me.
Listen, when shooting was my job, when that was the skill that I needed to be good at. When I was a Navy SEAL, I was a great shooter, and in fact, when the Navy hand-selected me to write the SEAL sniper manual, I don't think they did it because of my extreme good looks. They did it because I was a pretty good shooter and I was able to teach people how to shoot.
Listen, if you want to watch great shooters, shoot, that is fine. It's fun to watch if that's what you're into, but I'll tell you this, it is never going to make you a better shooter to simply watch somebody else shoot. It can be entertaining, but it's not going to make you better. If you want to get better at anything in your life, you need to find a great teacher.
Why Do I Shoot Bad When I Speed Up? [Chris Sajnog's 5 in Under 5 FAQ]
Hi, I'm retired Navy SEAL Chris Sajnog, author of Navy SEAL Shooting and one of the top 20 most frequently asked questions I get is: Why do I shoot bad when I speed up?
Now Start Your timer is I share with you five reasons you're shooting goes downhill as soon as you speed up in today's five in under five FAQ.
Alright, so this is a question I get all the time. That's why it made it to my top 20 list, and it's very common for people to do great shooting, slow fire. But as soon as they try adding speed their group opens up or they just completely miss the target. So I'm going to give you five reasons why that's possibly happening.
Number one on the list is: You haven't built up the mechanical foundation to shoot faster. And what I mean by mechanical foundation is you need to actually build your shooting platform, your structure, how your legs are, how your arms are, everything, how, how strong your grip is. All of these things come into play because as the guns start shaking and moving and vibrating faster from those rounds coming out faster, you don't have the foundation. You're literally shaking the foundation of your shooting platform, so you need to strengthen that if you want to shoot faster.
Number two is: You don't believe you can shoot faster. A lot of people when they shoot, they go out there and they're either thinking about how they shot last time like you didn't shoot fast last time or last time you tried shooting fast, your group opened up. You don't want to sit and focus on those things. You need to be present where you are right now, so you need to actually believe that you can shoot faster if you actually want to do it.
Number three on the list, and this is probably one of the biggest ones that I notice, especially when shooting a carbine, is: Your natural point of aim is off. Now I've got other videos out there where I will show you how to use your natural point of aim, but in general what happens is in slow fire, you are going to recoil back up to wherever your natural point of aim is. So if naturally your hips are off, say to the right and you're using muscle to aim at your target, when you shoot that gun, you're going to go back to your natural point of aim and each time you shoot, you're going to have to force it and you're going to end up shooting low into the left. If you're a right-hand shooter like I am, and if you're a left-handed shooter is going to be low and to the right, so make sure that your natural point of aim is right on target and that's going to help speed you up.
Number four on the list is: You're changing your mechanics when you speed up - and you don't want to do that. Everything you do when you shoot slow fire is you're building up to be able to shoot faster, so don't change anything. If you need to change something to shoot faster then you need to practice that way, and that goes back to building those mechanics and doing it properly each and every time.
And finally, number five is: Never force speed. I like to say "speed happens" and speed happens by you doing the mechanics of shooting perfectly, and as you do that through repetition, building those neuropathways speed is just going to be a byproduct of your perfect practice. So just keep practicing and you'll naturally get faster.

The Power of Presence: Learn Anything Easier

When most of us are training or practicing or performing a crucial skill in our life, something we want to be good at or we have to be good at. Most of us are either living in the past and thinking about how we performed in the past or we're looking into the future and wondering how are we going to do and what's going to happen in the future rather than being in the present moment where we can actually affect some change on what we're doing
Say in golf, if you're playing golf and you are not being present - in the present moment of that swing, actually the exact instant that your club makes contact with that ball, you have no control over what's going to happen if you're thinking about the last shot you made, if you're thinking about two holes down and what's going to happen, who's in the lead? Who's going to win? If you're thinking about any of that, rather than being present the exact second, the instant that that club makes, contact with the ball. You have no control, none over what's going to happen.
Let me be clear. If you are not keenly aware of what is happening in this instant, you have zero control over the outcome, but listen, learning to be present is really easy. All you need to do is meditate and meditating is also very easy.
All you need to do is close your eyes and focus on one thing. Focus on your breath and doing this is going to help you clear your mind and be able to control what you're focusing on in every moment of your life, and here's why meditation is so important or being present is so important.
You know your conscious mind can only focus on one thing at a time, but your subconscious can literally focus on hundreds of things. It can track hundreds of things that are going on around you, and every cell in your body has consciousness. It can give you vital information that can help you, and that's what meditating does. It helps you tap into your subconscious mind so you can live in the present moment and get better at everything you do.
And like I said, meditating is really simple. The problem most of us have is that we overthink it. We think it's more complicated than it needs to be and plus its kind of hard to get feedback on whether you're doing it right, but the thing is you really don't need feedback. If you sit with your eyes closed and listen to your breath and focus on one thing and learn to control your thoughts. You are meditating, and if you have a problem with the word meditation, then call it something else. Call it brain performance training. Call it training for whatever you want to get better at, but it's going to help you. And it's going to teach you to be present in every moment of your life.
Learning to be present is not just going to make you better at one skill. Learning to be present is going to make you better at life.

Quick Tip: How to Improve Your Situational Awareness
Hey guys, what is going on? Just a quick tip on how to improve your situational awareness and the way to do that is think about situational awareness as peripheral vision. Okay? And if you do that, you'll see how easy it is to train in so many different ways and what's been happening, why people need to do this so much. First off is because we are all on our mobile devices and you see it all the time. People looking down at their phones or their ipads and everything's just closing off around us when we're running - If people are running, they're doing it on a treadmill where nothing's going by us and we need to open really open that up and see what's going on around us in the way to do that again is to understand it's your peripheral vision and I don't want to get into all the details on rods and cones in your eyes and what picks up movement and stuff like that, but all you need to do to start training this is number one, get your head out of your mobile devices as much as you can, like get up, look around.
If you're going to go for a run, go outside because as you're outside, you're going to be seeing all these things moving past you. Your environment's constantly changing. As you walk down the street, keep your eyes straight forward and just look in and see what you can see in your peripheral vision without changing your eyes, keep looking straight ahead and start noticing, hey, wait a minute. Like right now, I'm looking straight ahead. I can see my lights over here and there's aset of books over there and I can see almost everything. And, and as you do that even more and more like, I know what's behind me, I sense that and that is the situational awareness that you want and you're going to be able to build and it's really easy now that you know how to do it.

Two Words That Can Make Every Part of Your Life Better
Most people today live a life of scarcity. Most people wake up every morning and tell themselves that they didn't get enough sleep. They come home from work each day, and they say they didn't get enough done at work that day, and then they go to bed every single night, and they tell themselves that tomorrow is going to be different.
Have you ever told yourself that? Have you told yourself that tomorrow is going to be different and then it's just the same day over and over again? You keep telling yourself that you didn't do enough, that you don't have enough. Are you living a life of scarcity?
Listen, we are the stories that we tell ourselves. You are the story that you tell yourself every single day. If you tell yourself that you're not getting enough sleep but you're not doing anything about it, your life is not going to change. If you tell yourself that you're not getting enough work done, you're not going to get more work done the next day because you're telling yourself who you are, but it's very easy to change and it takes two words. I am.
That's all you need to say I am, and then put what you want after that. So rather than saying, I am tired because I didn't get enough sleep. Tell Yourself; I am full of energy. Tell yourself what you're going to do every single morning when you wake up. Do you wake up in the morning and just let the rest of the day happen, or do you wake up in the morning and say, this is what I'm going to do today, this is what I'm going to accomplish today and then set out to do it, or are you going to just sit there and continue to live your life in scarcity - thinking that there's not enough?
There's never enough time, there's never enough money there's not enough time for me to train, there's not time for me to meditate. There's not time for me to exercise.
There is enough time. There's plenty of time for what you want in your life. So who are you telling yourself you are?
Remember, all you need to do is change two words.
