It’s a common story: the child develops normally until receiving childhood immunizations, at which point he or she regresses. Amanda’s mom often witnessed this with families she saw as an occupational therapist and recommended her daughter do research on the shots when she became pregnant. Instead of rejecting the schedule entirely, the new mother delayed and modified it. In 2008, Katie’s physician encouraged her to get immunized for HPV. “Within a week” of the initial dose, she experienced “massive headaches” and “episodes of severe pain.” At one point, she had to go on hormone therapy because her ovulation stopped.
