Let's face it, medical exams are annoying! You are poked, prodded and sometimes stuck with needles! The indignities continue on and on! Yet, these visits are necessary to maintain our pets health. Parrots must also have routine veterinary visits at least once a year. These visits are stressful on both the bird and its owners. The bird has to be restrained in order to be examined. That is not easy to do with a parrot who has a beak that could do serious damage to human flesh when it feels threatened. Usually, the parrot is placed in a towel to be restrained for the entire exam. This is both uncomfortable for the bird and the doctor is hindered by the bulk of the towel. Cicadas are large insects that emerge from the ground in the summer as larva. They shed their skin on trees and buildings as they enter their adult stage and get ready to mate. Male cicadas produce very loud calls for the purpose of finding a female. The sound they make can be damaging to the human ear if the cicada made the sound just outside the human ear. It is often difficult to tell precisely where a cicada song is coming from. In late afternoon the sound of the cicadas are very loud and Einstein heard them singing one day. This is a natural thing all parrots enjoy. This particular day, his owner had left a silicone vegetable steamer in the dish rack. It wasn't long before Einstein investigated it and decided what a nice chew it would be! He throws it down into the drawer and promptly hides inside the cabinet.
