Wally Bear and the No! Gang - Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN)
The Nerd finds out what is bad about Wally Bear and the NO! Gang for the NES, a game aimed at teaching kids to not take drugs. This is Angry Video Game Nerd episode 8.
Release in 1992, Wally Bear and the NO! Gang was inspired by Nancy Reagan's 'Just say No!' campaign. Originally, the full titled was 'Wally Bear and the Just Say No Gang', but was shorten due to the 'Just Say No' phrase was already trademarked.
As with other unlicensed NES titles (Tengen, Wisdom Tree), Wally Bear came in a obscure black cartridge that differed from other NES carts.
In this game, you star as Wally Bear, who must travel through levels while avoiding obstacles and Ricky the Rat. During these stages, you come across with situations from convincing friends not to do drugs or join a gang.
This is an edutainment game that was meant to keep kids away from drugs and gangs, but with AVGN involved, he encourage you to say no to drugs and NO to games like this!
Note: The toll free number hotline: 1-800-HI-WALLY was still active during AVGN's review, but was disconnected in Oct. 2007.

Back to the Future NES Angry Video Game Nerd AVGN
The Nerd certainly travels back in time, as he takes a look at two bad NES games based on the Back to the Future series. This is Angry Video Game Nerd episode 6.

AVGN didn't want to review this game, but it seems Darth Vader from the Planet Vulcan threaten him to melt his brain if he didn't.
'Back to the Future', released in theaters Jul. 3, 1985, star Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, who accidentally traveled back in time after running away from Libyan Terrorists who hunted down Doc Brown, played by Christopher Lloyd, for stealing their plutonium (the time travel resource needed to power the 1.21 gigawatts for the flux capacitor). Thus, with other problems including intervening with his parents and the quintessential bully, Biff Tannen, he has to find a way to get 'Back to the Future'!
With a classic movie franchise like this, what can possibly go wrong? Released four years later on Sept. 1989, it was released under AVGN's dreaded brand: LJN!
AVGN complained about how it didn't follow the movie where Marty McFly have to collect clocks while using a bowling ball to fight off bullies, hula-hoop girls, killer bees, and guys holding a sheet of glass. Although the skateboard is featured in this game and necessary to advance, it's hard to maneuver without crashing into anything.
AVGN also complained about the repetitive music that plays throughout the game (until the bonus stages).
(Later revealed as a speed up guitar riff version of Huey Lewis' 'Power of Love', the main theme of Back to the Future.)
Check out the revelation here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxNkA...
Adding more insults to AVGN, a sequel was released Sept. 1990 (Also released under LJN!)
After trying to review this sequel, mainly a nonsense version of Super Mario Bros., the only positive comment he can make is that it fits inside a toaster.
Eventually, AVGN revisited the 'Back to the Future' games. For the 'Back to the Future Revisited' review, click here:

Note: Two of his famous nerd rants, 'Buffalo Diarrhea and Roadkill Skunk', eventually made it to his 'AVGN theme song'.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) was one of those games that many kids wanted growing up in the 80's. It had the characters, the action, the look, the sound and even the pizza...or did it? Well let's find out how they screwed this one up.
In this episode the Nerd plays one of his childhood games to re-live the torment that is TMNT for the NES. He tries his best at fighting, jumping and swimming his way to defeat the insidious Shredder. Teased by out of reach pizza, taunted by impossible jumps, enraged by electric seaweed, what could possibly go wrong?
TMNT was released in 1989 on the Nintendo Entertainment System and developed by Konami. The game is centered on platforming action in which the player has to go through a series of Castlevania like levels to complete the game. As per Turtles fashion pizza restores life points and getting hit by enemies decreases it. Getting hit enough times knocks out the Turtle so the player has to select another until all 4 Turtles are dead.
Released under Konami's Ultra Games brand, TMNT was a successful game but lacked overall quality, with glitches and unusual game design. However, due its success the game managed to get a sequel, TMNT 2, but that was a port of the original Arcade game however.

In 2019 Mike decided to defend this game, check that out:

Who Framed Roger Rabbit (NES) - Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) ep 4
The Nerd wonders if someone framed him to tackle a bad video game, as he takes on the NES game based on Who Framed Roger Rabbit. This is Angry Video Game Nerd episode 4.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit was an amazing film and captured the imaginations of children and adults alike. Released in June 1988 it was a box office smash. The level of integration with live action actors and hand drawn animated characters had not been seen on this scale before. Directed by Robert Zemekis and starring Bob Hoskins, Christopher Lloyd, and Kathleen Turner as Rogers busty wife Jessica Rabbit.
In this episode the Nerd takes a look at the video game adaptation of the movie for the NES. It was released in 1989 and, as is the fate of many movie adaptations ,it was an utter disappointed to many children. The game goes out of its way to make things difficult and cryptic, great for us 5 year olds at the time eh? From its notoriously bad controls and ridiculous driving stages lets watch as the Nerd sets his sights on yet another game on the list of games ruined by the dreaded rainbow: LJN Toys Inc.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (NES) - Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN)
The Nerd takes on reviewing the extremely difficult Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for the NES, in which even the first level is almost impossible to complete. This is Angry Video Game Nerd Episode 2!
The Angry Video Game Nerd Episode 2! Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was a game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989. It was developed by Advance Communication Company and published by Toho & Bandai (who also put out the Godzilla toys). It is slow moving side-scroller, with notoriously bad controls and confusing gameplay. During gameplay, you alternate between Hyde or Jekyll where you will either try to avoid taking damage or kill monsters. Dr. Jekyll is supposed to be on his way to a wedding, but on the way he's getting annoyed by people bothering him on his walk, which causes him to turn into Hyde. You can see an in-depth review of the game, when the Nerd finally reviews the game for real in episode #95 Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Revisited http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjXn5q...

Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (NES) - Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN)
The Nerd makes his first ever game review, and tries to tackle Castlevania II: Simon's Quest for the NES, revealing the many flaws and issues that came with it. This is Angry Video Game Nerd Episode 1.
In this debut from the character we now all know as The Angry Video Game Nerd, Castlevania II: Simon's Quest is The Nerd's first video game victim. Released on the Nintendo Entertainment System just a year after the first in the series, it should have been equally as acclaimed. Though as it's the focus of an AVGN video, there are of course numerous shortcomings which prevent Simon's Quest from hitting the same highs as the original Castlevania.
With horrendous day to night transitions, having to throw holy water everywhere you go, and possibly the easiest boss in video game history; Simon's Quest was the perfect place for The Nerd to start dissecting the crappiest games known to man.
Although The Nerd may have a lot to rant about when it comes to Simon's Quest, the Castlevania series as a whole (Particularly Castlevania IV on the Super Nintendo) do hold a special place in his heart. And as a four part Halloween special in 2010, The Nerd revisits Simon's Quest, along with numerous other titles in the series.
