UN warns of new crisis in Bosnia - BBC News
After a brutal war and genocide that claimed about 100,000 lives and displaced more than two million people, it was hoped that an international peace agreement would allow Bosnia to begin healing from the wounds of conflict.
Twenty-seven years ago this week leaders of the three main communities agreed a set of principles that would form the basis of the Dayton peace agreement of 1995.
Now, the UN has warned of renewed crisis as Bosnian Serbs who launched the original war in 1992 are threatening to secede from the country.

NASA spots cosmic question mark
A cosmic object in the shape of a glowing question mark has photobombed one of the latest images captured by NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope. The original near-infrared image depicted a pair of young stars named Herbig-Haro 46/47. The question mark shape could be “indicative of a merger where these two galaxies are interacting gravitationally,” says Christopher Britt, the education and outreach scientist in the office of public outreach at the Space Telescope Science Institute. “That hook of the question mark on the top looks a lot, to me, like what we call a tidal tail, where the stream of stars and gas has been kind of ripped off and has flown out into space.” #cnn #news #cosmic #glowingquestion #NASAJamesWebbSpaceTelescope #Herbig-Haro46/47 #

Thousands of emperor penguins killed in the Antarctic BBC News
Reduction in sea ice in Antarctica has resulted in the deaths of an estimated 10,000 emperor penguin chicks.
In 2022, satellites recorded a colony of emperor penguins disappearing into the Bellingshausen Sea as the ice they were living on melted away.
The chicks had not fully developed waterproof feathers and they most likely froze to death.
Emperors rely on sea-ice to breed and as the world warms due to climate change - they are increasingly vulnerable.

What Yevgeny Prigozhins presumed death means for Ukraine BBC News
Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin is presumed to have died in a plane crash near Moscow, which killed all 10 people on board - and while his death has yet to be officially confirmed, Russian President Vladimir Putin has paid tribute to his former ally.
The mercenary group has been active on the battlefields of Ukraine following Russia’s invasion, and Volodymyr Havrylov, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine told the BBC that Prigozhin’s death could have an impact on the “confidence and morale” of Wagner troops – particularly among the lower ranks.
Meanwhile, the UK defence ministry has said that although there is “no definite proof” that Yevgeny Prigozhin was on board the plane which crashed, it “is highly likely that he is indeed dead”.

Luis Rubiales Spanish football boss refuses to quit after Womens World Cup kiss BBC News
The president of the Spanish football federation Luis Rubiales has refused to step down from his position, after he kissed forward Jenni Hermoso on the lips after the team’s World Cup final victory.
The 46-year-old had earlier grabbed his crotch as he celebrated the final whistle, while in the VIP area of Stadium Australia, with Queen Letizia of Spain and her 16-year-old daughter stood nearby.
It was expected that he would resign at an extraordinary general assembly called by the federation, but instead he said “a social assassination is taking place”, before repeating “I will not resign” several times, while a number of audience members – including both men’s and women’s national team coaches - applauded.
But, after his speech, Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Diaz said Rubiales “has to go.”

Spains World Cup winners refuse to play until football boss resigns BBC News
Spain's football World Cup winners have announced a boycott, saying they will refuse to play until the President of the Spanish football association resigns or is sacked.
Luis Rubiales is facing intense criticism after kissing one of the victorious women’s team on the lips following the game and grabbing his crotch while celebrating their victory over England in the final.
Jenni Hermoso, the player who he kissed, said there had been no consent. She described claims by Mr Rubiales that the kiss was consensual as “false” and “part of the manipulative culture that he has generated".
The Spanish FA President has said he won’t resign and said he was facing what he called “social murder” and would “fight to the end” to remain in his job.
A number of male Spanish players have said they will join the national women’s team in refusing to play until Mr Rubiales steps down and the Spanish government has begun legal action to remove him.
