Greater Bird-of-Paradise

A large bird of lowland and foothill forest and edge. Male has a black breast and white and yellow plumes which he raises above his back during his display, in which he variably hops about and flaps his wings, then holds them out still. May overlap slightly with Lesser and Emperor birds-of-paradise but male Greater is larger and lacks a yellow back. Female Greater is distinguished from other species by its all brown body. Male gives a typical, repeated nasal squawk.

It was formerly placed in the bird-of-paradise family Paradisaeidae until genetic work proved it was unrelated to those birds. It is found in the Bird's Tail Peninsula (Papua New Guinea).

The Royal Flycatcher really deserves this royal name for his royal crown. The female also has a royal crown but it's different in color.
The fact is, you can't see it's royal crown until it be afraid of. Also the male bird shows the royal crown for attract the female. The Royal Flycatcher can be seen in forests throughout the Guiana Shield including the Iwokrama Forest at the Canopy Walkway. This tiny bird, growing to all of 15 to 16 cm.
The western parotia is found only in the mountain forests of Vogelkop and the Wandammen Peninsula of Western New Guinea.
The Frogmouth birds are able to camouflage themselves. They are named for their large flattened hooked bill and huge frog-like gape, which they use to capture insects. Their flight is weak. They rest horizontally on branches during the day, camouflaged by their cryptic plumage.
Common potoos are 34 to 38 cm long with mottled red-brown, white, black, and grey cryptic plumage. This disruptive coloration allows the potoo to camouflage into branches. The common potoo is found in Trinidad & Tobago and every mainland South American country except Chile, though it has been recorded in that country as a vagrant.

The knobbed hornbill is found in Sulawesi, Buton, Lembeh, Togian and Muna Island. It inhabits evergreen forest at an elevation of up to 1,800 mitter.

Large hummingbird of very high elevations in the Andes. Almost endemic to Ecuador but just barely reaches far southern Colombia. Spectacular male has purple hood and white underparts marked with a black belly stripe. In central Ecuador, male has a small patch of green on the throat. Females and immatures are duller, with mostly drab green and grayish plumage and a streaky throat. No overlap with Blue-throated Hillstar. Usually encountered in páramo near patches of Chuquiraga bushes, which have bright orange flowers shaped like tiny pine cones. Birds feed from and aggressively guard favored flower patches, and pollen can stain the face orange.
