This area is an Off Highway Vehicle Mecca and we felt lucky to have a neighbor willing to share his vehicle. We headed up out and explored the Red Canyon trail, the Pinnacles and Amy's Wash. We visited the Slab city area the past week and were awestruck at the area. It's a mess. Full of so much trash, repurposed as "art". Yes there are some really neat things to see in the area, the likes of Salvation Mountain, built by Leonard Knight in the 80's. There are a lot of drugs in the area including a lot of, what an AirBNB listing for a Hostel in the area calls "gypsies". I found myself fairly aghast that 1, the area exists and 2, the utter poverty in which so many people in the area seem to live. Joelle has the history portion of the video and Rob will be sharing the commentary on the properties. I'm confident our thoughts will displease a lot of viewers, so I am sorry in advance about it. In today's video we are unveiling our Ultimate Boondocking Preparations Secrets. We want to share our Boondocking Tips with you. Boondocking is the word used to describe camping in what is called "off grid". Off grid living in an RV otherwise called Boondocking or Dispersed Camping. We live full time in our Winnebago Micro Minnie FLX 2108DS and almost all of time on the road is spent in a Boondocking, dispersed camping fully off grid. In today's video I want to show you how I have chosen to secure and store my Husky Weight Distribution RV Hitch Assembly. Hitch theft isn't incredibly common, but the weight distribution hitches we buy and install on our camper trailers are very expensive. Should they indeed become stolen, they are expensive to replace and the theft will leave us stuck or stranded in our RV while we work to resolve replacing the stolen items. Today we are headed on an Epic Drone Crash Salvage. It's our Living with Rob Recovery Mission. While in the Arizona Golden Canyon doing some boondock camping, a few friends took me to fly the DJI Avata Drone into the Box Canyon. Well, while there, I launched the drone and flew it along a mountain ridgeline. Sadly, at the very top of the mountain, the drone was pushed down by wind and was forced into a low hanging tree. The tree knocked the Avata out of the sky and it's self recovery turtle mode was deactivated due to it sitting at an angle on the mountain. Self recovery was not going to work so it required a second mission to the area the next day in order that I might climb to the top of the mountain and try to find the drone. The Avata is a very small drone so it took some hiking around on steep ledges and cliffs once on top of the mountain. Just when I was ready to give up, I asked the Lord to help me and draw me to it. Well, prayer was answered. Just at the moment I was going to call it and hike back down, I spotted the little sucker. I slowly made my way over to it and rescued it. Happily, the drone, and it's related footage was recovered safely. Thanks for watching. Today we are photographing the sunset in the Arizona Desert. Arizona is part of the southwest and is known for it's Epic Desert Sunsets. We were in Kanab, Utah recently for a few weeks and found so many things to do and see, we thought we'd put together a Living with Rob Update from Kanab Utah. While In Kanab for Christmas, we did set up and used the Winnebago 2108 DS FLX to do some serious dispersed camping otherwise known as boondocking. We spent 2 weeks in the area with the kids for Christmas and while there we visited a number of my favorite spots. In this video we are going to show you some of them. A few years back, Winnebago introduced their FLX series of RV trailers. These trailers are the new Winnebago attempt to seriously enter the boondocking or dispersed camping often known as "Off Grid". I own a 2022 Winnebago 2108 DS FLX series camper and as of recently, am putting this camper to the test in it's real world capabilities to go off grid for significant days at a time. Winnebago bills these campers as 5 days off grid. I do not agree with this, at least out of the factory. Having left Michigan about 12 days back, I am headed toward southern Arizona at the moment. I have been staying at Boondockers Welcome hosted sites along the way, but in this week I have found a wonderful place to set up a camp for 5 nights in the Lake 13 Dispersed camping near Maxwell New Mexico. The time has finally come for me to depart the state of Michigan and head west. But not before I take some time to prepare the Winnebago for colder weather. Where I'm headed is sure to be cold. I am considering trying some "winter" camping, although not sure I am ready nor willing to do so. But, for safety sake, I plan to do a few things that will help the RV handle the colder temps. I do believe this RV is a great model and It really serves it's purposes for our home. If you own a Winnebago Micro Mini FLX series, you know that the water holding tank is prone to fall out while traveling on rough terrain. It's actually no wonder these water tanks fall out when traveling. We own a 2022 Micro Mini FLX 2108 DS model. The water holding tank is simply sitting up on two pieces of very thin angle iron. The water holding tank is not held in or secured at all and the angle iron they use from the factory on these tank holding systems is thin. Very thin. When you add 31 gallons of water to your Winnebago Micro Mini FLX it turns that water tank into a 300lb bomb waiting to drop! Well, not being able to travel with water in the RV tank is first of all, STUPID and second of all, inconvenient. When I pay nearly $40,000 for an RV I expect it to work as it should. The factory at Winnebago isn't going to jump through hoops to fix this problem so, Joelle and I decided we'd fix it ourselves. Given the fact that we will be traveling across a number of very rough terrains with our Micro Mini 2108 FLX camper, we wanted to reduce our stress some by adding some extra support to the tank. In this video, I am going to show you exactly how we did this for less than $50, some elbow grease, and a little time. I am pleased with how this camper modification turned out and I hope through this video you too are inspired to do your own repair and get your RV ready for some serious off road travel. In today's video, I want to talk about some frustrations I am feeling along with some self doubts I have been having lately. As a Christian it can be challenging whenever we attempt to step out in faith to change the course of life. Often, we we do, things begin to happen which will cause doubt, especially self doubt, to take root and take us off course. That's where I am at right now. In today's modification video, I'll be showing you a simple modification I've made to our Winnebago Micro Minnie 2108ds FLX. The front storage compartment of this model houses the solar controller along with the Lithonics 320ah battery as well as the Xantrex 3000 watt inverter. When everything is in the on mode, it tends to get hot up there, particularly in the summer time. I decided to install a thermostat controlled exhaust fan on the unit in an attempt to automate the cooling I cross vented the entire storage compartment with a passive vent on one side and a 12v dc powered fan on the other side. It's really made a difference in keeping the front storage compartment cool. We decided we wanted a better night's sleep in our RV. After all, we are living in our Winnebago full time. That sleep becomes critical to our success in doing so. Well, we spent the cash and upgraded the murphy bed mattress in our Winnebago Micro Minnie 2108DS FLX. We live full time in this RV so we indeed decided we most certainly needed to upgrade the mattress in the rig. We landed on a Tochta Utopia 8" mattress. The mattress was custom cut to fit our required space and it's a great thing. This mattress is an awesome upgrade from the factory and after 3 weeks we can confidently say, one of the best upgrades to the RV we have made. Recently, Joelle and I took the time to watch a movie called Nomadland. I was a bit surprised to see a real life persona @CheapRVliving s star, Mr. Bob Wells. As of late, I have been observing a lot of what Bob believes to be true and that is so many Americans are living by what Mr. Wells calls the Tyranny of The Dollar. He's not wrong in this assessment and it's an accurate statement as it relates to the way in which the vast percentage of people in America seem to look at things. The longer Joelle and I have been on the road, the more people we are meeting who wish, like us, they could do what we are doing, but the have to wait "a few years to retire" and so on. It takes guts to do what we're doing and what those like Bob Wells do. Welcome to the Living With Rob series, Week 1. In this video we will tell you about our adventures after closing on the sale of our home. Last week Monday we officially closed on the sale of our home in St Cloud Florida to begin our life of living full time in our Winnebago Micro Mini FLX 2108DS. We have finally taken the jump to full embrace what God has called both of us into. We are excited to be traveling with our Dog Watson and are eager to share our adventures with you as we travel the United States, all year long, documenting our journey. In today's video we are going to visit a few Boondockers Welcome stops along with showing you around Holt Michigan. While here on our extended stopover we are doing some work on the Toyota Tundra as we prepare for our trek north into the Michigan Upper Peninsula for the fall season. We added storage to the roof of the truck, we ramped up our truck bed storage and played around with Watson quite a bit. We worked out as always and even colored Joelle's hair in this video.
