This is a reaction video to the 2024 Benedictine College commencement speech delivered by Chiefs' kicker, Harrison Butker. I was present for the speech and will give my honest thoughts on how it went and how it was received by those present. I will also offer thoughts on the backlash it has received since it was published online.

I talk to many Catholic men who are, professionally speaking, seeking after emotional satisfaction rather than striving to fulfill their duty, whether present or future, of providing for their family. Many thousands of men became saints over the last two thousand years while working tedious jobs, from which they drew little to no pleasure, to provide for their big, holy families. Today, we see men and women who limit the number of children they have so that they can pursue careers that bring them personal happiness, often forcing their families to suffer on their behalf. According to many modern-day Catholics, the Bible's instruction for husbands and wives is to be mutually submissive to one another. I had heard this interpretation of Ephesians 5 numerous times. Having actually read the entire book of Ephesians multiples times myself, I was always perplexed at how we came to these conclusions. One problem many Catholics have is being guilty of what Protestants accuse us of the most: not reading the Bible. If you've read the New Testament, it's hard to understand the direction for husbands and wives as anything close to mutual submission in the way it's often explained today.
