We don't find too many clean fox body Mustangs around Chicago anymore so when this one came up for auction, I jumped at it. It is one of the most desirable years for the fox body as it has some 1993 only options and was the last year before the SN95s came out. This one took a pretty good hit in the front end and the airbag deployed. It was listed as a stationary no-start with engine damage so let's see what it will take to make it run. It is common for the "experts" to tell me vehicles are totaled because the airbags deployed. While the cost of airbags and airbag related damage can push a vehicle over the total loss threshold, there is no law that says a vehicle must be totaled if the airbags deploy. Last week we pulled the CRV and tacked up the piece of the inner pillar we had to replace. This week we will finish welding that piece in and install the outer panel. We will also get the doors fit and the hinges on for the last time (hopefully). By the time we are done, it should be all ready for paint and a lot less pain than I expected when I started. Last time we took the CRV apart, today we start some repairs. We will move the B-pillar around and see if we can get it back where it belongs. If we can, we will cut it open and see what needs to be replaced on the inside. We did get a few parts, two doors and 3/4 of the side of a CRV. I had a cheap remote-controlled car that I used in the house and the supervisor loved to chase it until she destroyed it. I figured I would get her one that would even the odds a bit. This one is far too fast for inside, so we take her out and let her go. She will run herself to exhaustion playing with the car and tennis balls are no longer interesting to her. We do bring water with us and make her stop and drink so calm down PETA. She is currently sitting next to me because she heard the video of her favorite toy. Today we start a new build. It is a 2021 Acura RDX Aspec AWD with only 20,000 miles. It was a stationary vehicle because it will not run. I either saved some money or I am about to be upside down on this rebuild.... Only one way to find out. The damage from the deer on this was not nearly as bad as the Lincoln MKT we did at the beginning of the year but at least that one still ran..ish. How long do cars sit at the auction? On average about two months, but this 2004 Pontiac Grand Am GT is far beyond average. It was sitting at the auction for a month shy of five years. Had the auction not been moving locations, it would have likely sat even longer. It was not wrecked, has a clear title and doesn't run.
