4,500-year-old stone statuette found in Gaza

A stone statuette, over 4,500 years old depicting the face of an ancient goddess, was discovered in the southern Gaza Strip. Carved out of limestone and 22 centimeters long, the statuette from 2500 BC was found by a farmer in Khan Younis. In recent years, Israel and militant groups in Gaza had a series of devastating flare-ups in the conflict. However, the discovery of the statue is a reminder of how the strip - part of an important trade route for successive ancient civilizations - was originally a Canaanite settlement.
