Artificial Lure tips for Tampa winter Trout and Snook

Winter time fishing in Tampa Bay Florida is a bit of a puzzle to solve, especially when it comes to inshore fishing for snook, redfish, and speckled trout. Snook in particular, will seek refuge in places that offers a few more degrees of water temperature due to their intolerance of cold water. Trout and redfish will often school up and find backwaters and coastal rivers in search of food and stable temperatures as well.

During breaks in the cold weather, we will sometimes experience a short warmup up that will draw snook out of their hiding places and back onto the flats again that mimics a spring through fall pattern. I will show you a few critical techniques on how to approach these fish in shallow clear water and how to present your artificial lure. The best lure we used in this video was the Saltwater Assassin Sea Shad in the Ripper Color on a 1/8 oz Z Man jighead. In the second half of the video, we will target speckled trout also with lures and give you an example of a large school or breeding size female speckled trout.
