The Tampa Bay Skyway Bridge is home to a wide variety of fish species, sheepshead being one of the many residents. Hop in the boat with me as we search for supper on this adventure. Sheepshead are a favorite winter time fishery here in Tampa Bay. Many people target them around rockpiles, docks, ledges, pilings, and seawalls. They are associated with crusty shell entangled structure. They have unique teeth that allow them to crunch on barnacles, mussels, sand fleas, shrimp, crabs, anything that's crunchy! Live or fresh shrimp, fiddler crabs, and sand fleas are favorite choices. Many people use barnacle scrapings as chum to get sheepshead on the feed! I had the opportunity to go flying with a friend in his super cool Glasair 1ft experiemental plane. I've never been in such a compact little plane before but I actually really enjoyed it. It was alot of fun and I would probably be interested in owning a plane like that one day if possible. Spring fishing report for Tampa Bay 2022 . The fishing was really good at the end of winter with what is called a "False Spring" . Fishing was off the charts with dozens of snook and redfish being caught on most charters. Then a big cold front came sweeping down to Florida with high winds around 30 mph and colder temperatures bringing the water down to 69 Degrees Fahrenheit. It took several days for the fishing to recover. There were a few days where the bite was so bad I only caught a couple snook all day. NOW, the weather has greatly improved and the bite is back. Redfish and snook are hungry and in all the spots you would guess they'd be. Mullet are schooled up and the reds are nearby. Let's go Spring Fishing 2022.
