Corrigan Police Pursuit, 3 Suspects in Custody, NEW WILLARD, July 16, 2022 - At approximately 9:30 am on July 16, 2022, Officer Bobby Goynes, with the Corrigan Police Department stopped a south-bound gray 2015 Mercedes Benz S550 on US-59 for speeding (85 mph in a 55). Goynes had the driver exit the vehicle. During this time, Officer Michael McDuffie (also with Corrigan PD) arrived to assist Officer Goynes. While Goynes was questioning the driver, one of the two passengers jumped into the driver's seat and took off. Officer McDuffie gave chase, Goynes loaded the suspect into his unit, and pursuit was established. The pursuit exceed 100 miles per hour. During the pursuit, Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and State Troopers Johnny Wilkerson and Kevin Burman all joined in the effort to stop the fleeing vehicle. As the vehicle was approaching the south end of Loop 116, by a stroke of luck for the police, the suspect vehicle blew a rear tire. The vehicle turned onto Loop 116 as the police followed. The vehicle finally stopped on Loop 116. The two remaining suspects jumped out and fled on foot, only to be caught by Officer Goynes and Trooper Johnny Wilkerson. At time of press, we do not yet have the names of the suspects. During a vehicle search, police found a zip lock back with marijuana, a container with concentrated THC, and the trunk was full of catalytic converters that were allegedly stolen out of Lufkin. The suspects' ages are 19, 17, and 16 years of age.
