DRIVER IN CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER SLAMMING BACKWARDS INTO TREE, WAKEFIELD TEXAS, 05/17/24...
Driver in Critical Condition After Slamming Backwards Into Tree, WAKEFIELD, May 17, 2024 - At approximately 6:50 pm on May 17, 2024, a gray 2002 Infinity sedan was north-bound on US-59 when, for some reason, the driver left the pavement to the left, overcorrected right, left the pavement to the right, continued down a steep embankment (sliding out of control) and slammed into a tree backwards. EMS personnel and Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene and were able to get the driver, Etoyle Rigsby, 43, of Corrigan, safely out of his vehicle. Rigsby was rushed by ambulance to Lufkin Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Trooper Sean Barnes with the Texas Highway Patrol was dispatched to investigate. Rigsby remains hospitalized in critical condition. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Head On Collision, 1 Person Flown, GOODRICH, May 16, 2024 - At approximately 8:50 pm on May 16, 2024, a white 2010 Cadillac Escalade driven by Byron Keith Hughes, 53, of Goodrich, was west-bound on FM-1988 West when he was slammed head on by a black Dodge pickup driven by Dyllan Luke Sandlin, 27, of Porter. According to witnesses in another vehicle, Sandlin had attempted to pass in a no passing zone. The collision happened near El Camino Road. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Goodrich and Livingston Volunteer Fire Departments and Trooper Sean Barnes with the Texas Highway Patrol. Sandlin was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital while Hughes was transported by ambulance to a nearby landing zone and flown. All traffic on 1988 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Sandlin is likely facing a citation for passing in a no passing zone. Sandlin's vehicle was recovered by Fawbush Wrecker Service out of Goodrich, while Hughes' vehicle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker out of Livingston. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Driver Takes Out 2 Utility Poles, Arrested for Suspicion of DWI, LIVINGSTON, May 15, 2024 - At approximately 7:25 pm on May 15, 2024, the driver of a white Dodge pickup was south-bound on South Houston Avenue (146) when he left the pavement to the right, struck and utility pole (pole snapped), bounced off, and continued south-bound and slid into a second utility pole (snapping second pole). Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department. Amazingly, the driver wasn't injured. Officers with Livingston Police Department were dispatched to the scene. Sergeant Ken Dillard executed a field sobriety test on the driver. The driver (name not yet released) couldn't seem to do the tasks asked of him in a field sobriety test. The driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Traffic on 146 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. We'll update this story with the driver's name as soon as we're able to ascertain that information.

POLK COUNTY CRIME STOPPERS ALERT, 05/10/24...
In the early morning hours of Friday, May 10, 2024, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received an alarm call at a business in the south end of the county. Deputies quickly responded and upon arrival found the business had been burglarized and cigarettes had been stolen from the business. During the investigation of the incident video footage was obtained and a single black male can be seen entering the store and stealing the items. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the publics assistance in identifying the male subject. Posted below are photos and videos of the subject that committed the burglary.

Fire Appears to Have Totaled Entire Section of Apartments, LIVINGSTON, 05/03/24 - Shortly after 6 am on May 3, 2024, the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the Pine Hill Apartments (Next to Livingston Brookshire Bros.) in response to a fire that appears to have started in the attic of unit 216. Additionally, the Livingston Police Department, the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Livingston Fire Marshal, and EMS personnel arrived on the scene. There are no reported injuries, but the fire spread rapidly and appears to have totaled the entire section of apartments. Law enforcement had both ends of Church Street blocked in order of emergency vehicles to move without obstruction.

Driver of Motorcycle Rearends Pickup, Critical Condition, SCENIC LOOP, May 2, 2024 - At around 10 pm on May 1, 2024, the driver of a gray Dodge pickup was west-bound on FM-3277 when he was slammed from behind by the driver of a red Honda motorcycle in the 3375 block of 3277 (next to Scenic Loop Grocery). The impact threw the driver from his motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet (the names of the drivers have not yet been released). Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Scenic Loop Volunteer Fire Department, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Trooper Johnny Wilkerson with the Texas Highway Patrol. The driver of the motorcycle was rushed by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Dodge and his passengers were physically okay. All traffic on 3277 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. The motorcycle was recovered by Smith Towing while the Dodge pickup was recovered by Pop's Wrecker Service. As soon as the identifications of the drivers are released we'll update the story. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Postal Truck Broadsided by Pickup, SODA, April 28, 2024 - At approximately 12:45 pm on April 28, 2024, the driver of a white 2013 Ford F-150 was west-bound on US-190 East when the driver of a US Postal truck (also west-bound) attempted a dangerous U-Turn directly in front of the Ford pickup. The driver of the postal truck pulled to the right shoulder, and swung out in a U-Turn attempt, and was broadsided in the 8100 block of 190 East (just east of Soda Baptist Church). Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Amazingly, there were no injuries. By all appearances, the driver of the postal truck is likely facing a citation for the unsafe U-Turn. The pickup was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston, while the postal truck was recovered by Fawbush Wrecker Service out of Goodrich.

SUV Fails to Yield to 18 Wheeler, 1 Person Flown, LIVINGSTON, April 22, 2024 - At approximately 6:20 pm on April 22, 2024, an 18 wheeler driven by Kenneth Holland, 42, was traveling south-bound pulling through the intersection of North Washington (Business 59) and North Houston (146 by Giavannis). At that moment, a south-bound maroon GMC Yukon, driven by Lesli Bennett, 43, of Leggett, attempted a left turn onto North Washington but failed to yield. The GMC and the 18 wheeler collided. The impact knocked Bennett backwards and onto the shoulder while Holland's vehicle came to rest right there. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, and Officers with the Livingston Police Department. Bennett was entrapped. Firemen used the Jaws-of-Life to cut her door off. Bennett was transported by ambulance to a nearby landing zone and flown from the scene. Holland was physically okay. Bennett is facing a citation in the accident. Both vehicles were recovered by Smith Towing out of Livingston.

Driver Crashes Into Tree, Alcohol Suspected, SEGNO, April 22, 2024 - At approximately 10:20 pm on April 21, 2024, a tan 2011 Hyundai Elantra was north-bound on FM-2798. As the driver was approaching FM-943, he never pressed his brakes, crossed over 943, entered a residential yard, crashed through a fence and slammed head on into a tree. The driver, Jason Craig Lyons, 39, of Livingston, was reportedly ejected and his head struck the windshield. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Segno Volunteer Fire Department, Deputy Albert Richard with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Trooper Sean Barnes with the Texas Highway Patrol. EMS personnel loaded Lyons into an ambulance and transported him to a nearby landing zone. An Air Life Medical Helicopter landed and flew Lyons to Kingwood Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Alcohol is suspected as there was a heavy smell of alcohol on Lyons and in his vehicle. Lyons may be facing the charge of driving while intoxicated. His vehicle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be stored in Livingston.

Failure to Yield Causes Collision, GOODRICH, April 19, 2024 - At approximately 6:55 pm on April 19, 2024, a black 2011 Dodge Journey, driven by Vanessa Holcomb, 23, of Goodrich, was north-bound on US-59. As Holcomb was passing Lone Star Charlie's Restaurant, a silver 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by Ann Dunn, 86, of Rye, pulled off of Queens Row Road onto 59 and failed to yield to Holcomb. The collision was nearly a broadside, but Holcomb's vehicle just grazed the front end of Dunn's vehicle. The collision sent Holcomb's vehicle into the center median while Dunn's vehicle spun around and came to rest on the pavment. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Corporal Darren Brooks with the Polk County Sheriff's Office. EMS treated Holcomb's female passenger at the scene as well as Dunn. Traffic on 59 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Dunn is likely facing a citation for failure to yield. Dunn's vehicle was recovered by Fawbush Wrecker Service out of Goodrich while Holcomb's vehicle was also towed from the scene.

Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Goodrich Volunteer Fire Department, Deputy Kayla Hemperly with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Troopers Allen Jones and Nick Hatton with the Texas Highway Patrol. Firemen used extraction equipment to remove the door from Bogany's vehicle as EMS personnel carefully removed him. Bogany and Balbuena were transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Traffic was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Bogany will be facing a citation for failure to yield. Both vehicles were recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored in Livingston.

Distracted Driver Crashes BMW, MOSCOW, April 17, 2024 - At approximately 8:50 am on April 17, 2024, a gray 2006 BMW Z4 was south-bound on US-59. The driver was allegedly distracted when she left the pavement to the right and struck a rusty pole at 59 and FM-350. Constable Ray Myers was in the vicinity and radioed to dispatch about the crash. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Deputy Michael McDuffy with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. The driver, Morgan Marguerite Dorman, 34, of Zavalla, only sustained bumps and minor cuts and was treated at the scene by EMS Personnel. Unfortunately for Dorman, in addition to crashing her car, she also had an outstanding warrant and was cuffed and hauled in to Polk County Jail by Corporal Bass. Dorman's vehicle was recovered by Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan.

Mock was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. There was a heavy smell of alcohol coming from Mock's person and from his vehicle. Mock is possibly facing the charge of driving while intoxicated. His vehicle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be stored in Livingston.

Traffic on the south-bound side at 393 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Shannon is facing a citation for failure to yield. Shannon's vehicle was recovered by Smith Towing and will be stored in Livingston while Evans' vehicle was recovered by Pop's Wrecker Service and will also be stored in Livingston.

3 Vehicle Accident, 1 Person Flown, CEDAR POINT, April 4, 2024 - Shortly before 5 pm on April 4, 2024, a white 2021 Chevy pickup, driven by Michael Visger, 62, of Shepherd, was east-bound on US-190 West. As Visger was passing the Valero station, a blue 2001 Chevy pickup driven by a 15 year old Livingston female pulled out of the parking lot and broad sided Visger's vehicle. The impact pushed Visger into the west-bound lanes of 190. At that moment, a west-bound white Ford Transit minivan with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, driven by Stephen Windham, 61, of Heidlberg, Mississippi, swerved to avoid colliding with Visger. The minivan caught the trailer ball of the sliding pickup. The trailer ball caused the minivan to roll and come to rest upside down in a ditch on the right side of the west-bound lanes. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Onalaska Volunteer Fire Department, Onalaska Police Department, an Officer with Livingston PD was passing through and stopped to assist, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Trooper Johnny Wilkerson and Sergeant Allen Stanton with the Texas Highway Patrol. Windham was flown from the scene by Air Life medical, while his passenger was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial with undisclosed injuries. Visger and the 15 year old were physically okay. All traffic on 190 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. The 15 year old's pickup, and the minivan were recovered by George White & Sons Wrecker Service out of Onalaska, while Visger's pickup was recovered by EastTex Towing. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
Editor's Note: While on the scene, some kind of skirmish broke out, an Officer with Onalaska PD cuffed and detained the guy that was seemingly out of order. We don't know if any arrests were made.
