Bacon Quest 2020: It's that time of year. Many species such as hogfish, grouper, and amberjack congregate on the shallower ledges off Pinellas County Florida and Tampa Bay. This provides an excellent opportunity to catch the tastiest fish of all, the hogfish. A species of Wrasse fish, hogfish are peculiar reef dwellers and crustacean / mollusk eaters. As they slowly hover above the limestone reefs they search for crabs, shrimp, snails, mussels, and other critters. Dropping down frozen or live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or sand fleas is an excellent way to target these fish.

Other species such as Amberjack and Gag Grouper also inhabit these same areas. Artificial lures such as the Monster 3x shrimp are great ways to work different parts of the water column to get both of these species. Live and dead bait such as pinfish, sardines, mackerel, and blue runners are also great natural bait options. Be sure to follow the video to part two to see all the action from this adventure.
