Carlee Brucia murder: Joseph Smith, convicted in killing, dies

Joseph Smith, the man convicted of killing Carlee Brucia, has died in prison. Smith was 76 years old.

Smith was found dead in his cell at the Utah State Prison on Sunday, 8 December. He had been serving a life sentence for the 1994 murder of Brucia, a 36-year-old mother of two.

Brucia's murder has long been considered one of Utah's most notorious cold cases. Smith was initially convicted of second-degree murder, but was later indicted on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping.
