Chicken Exodus Releasing The Birds To Free Range

The day has finally come. I am releasing the birds to free range at the off grid homestead. This is an exciting moment and a huge step for the homestead.

The chickens can eat all they want all day long for free now. I have been working on the chicken fence so that I can let the birds free range around the outside of my garden. This will also reduce the ticks around the property. Chickens eat ticks and just about anything else that moves. Having the chickens free will both save me money and my health.

Lymes disease is quite common around here. Lymes is a tick borne illness that stays with you for life.

I have 2.5 acres of land fenced in to keep the chickens safe from predators and from wandering out into the dangerous woods.

I have been working on the picket fence and chicken wire to keep the chicken out of the garden and yard in front of my tiny house. This will save my flowers and vegetables. The chickens will be able to eat ticks from all around the outside of the yard and garden though. I will have a safe zone inside.

I put up some chicken wire the other day with the help of my friend Chris on the other side of the house to keep the chickens from entering the garden on that side.

I will finish the picket fence on the front side of the house as well asap.

After I let the larger chickens out of the main pen I then built another safe chicken range for the little Bantams. These are my special birds and I want to protect them from any and all harm. They will remain in their larger area for safety. Smaller chickens are the first to be eaten by predators and these birds are special to me.

Next I released the baby Bantams into the pen with the larger ones. They will all live together in there now.

Thanks to everyone who purchased T-Shirts or otherwise helped to support the building of the chicken fence. Thank you all for watching.
