The Method To My Madness

I try to explain some of the reasons for the things I do out here at the off grid homestead.

During the winter months construction on the tiny house slowed down. This is because all of my wood was under snow and ice. I had tried to use some of the old wet wood but when I brought it inside the tiny house and it dried out, it shrank and cracked.

Later after the snow melted, some of my wood was dry and I started construction on the tiny house again.

Sadly though some of the pallet wood I used outside on the tiny house siding was from out in the woods and had been in the shade. It was still holding the winter moisture. This wood shrank and shows massive gaps in between the shingles after it dried out on the house. The other wood which had been out in the sun after the melt was fine though.

But right now I am in the middle of the wet and rainy season at the off grid homestead. This means that all of my wood is wet again. Even wood in the storage tent is damp from 80 to 98 percent humidity that we currently have.

If I brought this wood into the tiny house then it would shrink and leave huge gaps in between the boards when it dried out in a few weeks after the rainy season ends.

So I hope this explains why construction on the tiny house has been put on hold for now.

I am working on the fence surrounding my meadow right now because I want to eliminate the ticks. This is urgent to protect my own health and that of my friends and guests.

I am also going to be working in the garden for now in order to get my plants in before its too late. After the garden is finished then I will be installing the electric fence outside the chicken wire.

By then hopefully the rainy season will have ended and I can resume work on the tiny house.

Again, most of the wood I am using to build my tiny house on wheels is recycled and reclaimed lumber. This sits outside in the elements and it has to be dry before I can use it for construction.

I hope this explains some of the reasons for my priorities right now.
