Bob Iger has built his reputation on corporate acquisition. Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and FOX. But now Iger is signaling a Disney yard sale with even ABC and the entire country of India (via HotStar) on the table. But Why?

Disney HotStar India has been an albatross on DTC (direct to consumer) profitability and without the streaming rights to the popular IPL Cricket League, Disney has shed millions of subscribers in India. Look for Disney to perhaps try and sell to the Paramount/Viacom CBS group that bought the IPL streaming rights last year.

ABC like all broadcast networks are in what could be permanent decline and Bob Iger seems to want to offload this burden NOW before it becomes comparably worthless in the next 5-10 years.

But Iger maintains that Disney will hold onto "core" content and LIVE SPORTS are KEY. That said, what is ABC actually worth without its most valuable properties like the NBA contract? A Wells Fargo Analyst suggest Disney's total linear system is worth perhaps $8 Billion but it may not even be half of that once live sports are withdrawn from the deal. Certain this could help with the acquisition of HULU's remainder in a few months from COMCAST, but I think this even more about getting top dollar now (or as best they can) before the value of linear assets collapse any further.
