What this means, is every time you drop back to pass, what percentage of those plays wind up in a situation where you cant even attempt a pass. This means theres either a sack, or pressure that results in a rush, a missed opportunity early resulting in holding onto the ball for too long, and overall are you atleast attempting to perform the game plan in place. So Im here to run down the numbers for everyone lets get started.

Tom Brady is the leader in this by far, even at his old age. with 744 Dropbacks, hes attempted 714 passes meaning only 4% of pass plays called resulted in something other than a pass attempt. No one else in the league is even close to this number however when we look at other QBs that have a low percentage of the play breaking down we can see that Patrick Mahomes is around 10%
Aaron rodgers is 557/515 which comes out to 8%
Justin Herbert has attempted a ton of passes, 726 for 662 and hes at 9%
A guy whos having a decent season finally, Kirk Cousins is at around 9%
Joe Burrow whos really young, but is in a very pass heavy offense is at 11%
Now Dak Prescots total dropbacks are a bit lower, due to missed games from injury
however he still is at aorund 9% pass plays that wind up breaking down.
Trever Lawrence is doing well in this category, hes at 9%

Now... When we take a look at QBs that do have more of a rushing element to their game you can expect this % to be a bit higher, because they are more likely to trust their legs if the plays arent open so
Josh Allen sits at around 14%
Jalen Hurts whos having a great year, is at 15%
Lamar Jackson you can see his dropbacks are much lower because they run a lot of designed run plays, but hes still at around 15%
Even Kyler Murray is at 12%

now just to give a couple more examples, mac jones is at 12%
Daniel Jones is at 17%
Geno Smith at 12%
and Russel Wilson, whos struggling, has pass plays break down 19% of the time.
You can see that the stat is pretty consistent, if you trust your recievers, and youre getting a clean pocket, or youre very very football smart like brady, you are executing the called plays 85% of the time or more.

And now heres why I made this video. Justin Fields
444 dropbacks for 318 pass atempts. 29% of the time Fields drops back, he is not passing the ball. Now Ive given you the numbers, you can make your own opinion however my opinion, is that he doesnt trust wide recievers, there are still early throw opportunities that are missed, there is a ton of pressure in passing situations from the O line, and Justin Fields winds up trying to carry the team by scrambling.

My concern is, this is not a great way to groom a Quarterback, its a good way to destroy one. Get this kid more Talent, he needs some real Wide recievers and some better pass protection, as well as studying the playbook more and having the confidence to hit throws early.
