Mayor accidentally livestreams bridge collapse during flood

As Brazil’s state of Rio Grande do Sul braced itself for deadly storms, the mayor of the municipality of Santa Tereza, Gisele Caumo, took to Instagram to livestream a warning to stay safe and to detail her administration’s preparations for the flooding. However, the rains did more than wash away a bridge. A hydroelectric dam burst near the city of Bento Gonçalves, causing a two-meter wave to spread chaos in the already-flooded region. More than 30 are thought to have died, 60 more remain missing, 15,000 have been forced to evacuate and 500,000 have been left without power and clean water.
