Viral video shows Taliban on bumper cars and carousel

In the wake of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, and the resulting chaos and takeover by the Taliban, the militant group is apparently choosing to celebrate by heading to the fair and going on the kids’ rides.

Footage has emerged claiming to be of the Taliban living it up at a theme park in the northwestern city of Herat. However, the group striking fear into the hearts of a nation chose some rather tame rides on which to celebrate.

First up was a surprisingly orderly circuit on the bumper cars (aka dodgems), and when they’d finished on those, they moved onto a carousel (yes, that’s a merry-go-round, fellow Brits) that looked like it should’ve been called ‘Princess Unicorn’s Sparkly Fun Parade.’

The surreal footage first emerged on Friday, amid the group’s rapid takeover of Afghan cities, although it’s unclear when it was actually recorded. Let’s be clear, though: whenever the video was filmed, the fact remains that the Taliban had a go on ‘Princess Unicorn’s Sparkly Fun Parade.’
